Abstract: A computerized system and methods of ballistic analysis involves comparing land impressions on a plurality of control bullets and computing correlation coefficients corresponding to the land-to-land comparisons in all possible relative orientations. A set of matching coefficients is identified for each bullet pair, and the set of matching coefficients is statistically compared to a set of non-matching coefficients. The gun is concluded to be identifiable where the sets of matching coefficients and non-matching coefficients are not statistically undistinguishable. To evaluate whether an evidence bullet was fired by a suspect gun, land impressions on an evidence bullet are compared with land impressions on a plurality of control bullets in all possible relative orientations, and correlation coefficients are computed for each land-to-land comparison to identify a set of questioned coefficients.

  • Patent number: 6721689
Abstract: A hosted facilities management system and method capable of simultaneously monitoring a plurality of conditions, equipment, and systems within one or more facilities is described and claimed. The monitoring system collects, archives, and processes data pertaining to utility services at a facility, environmental conditions within a facility, security around and within a facility, hazardous conditions within a facility, and equipment functionality including but not limited to manufacturing, telecommunications, and data management operations. Anomalous conditions are identified and reported. Data is filtered and compressed to facilitate the efficient storage and management of conditional state data collected from multiple sources. Archived data is retrieved and reported to client facilities via various means. Graphical, numerical, and plot reports are viewable over a distributed network.

  • Patent number: 6169964
Abstract: A system for controlling the consumption of a household appliance, comprising an electronic microcontroller and non-volatile memory device associated with the microcontroller, the household appliance being connected during use with at least one source of an external resource (water, electric energy, gas, etc.), the external resource being required by the apparatus for carrying out an operating cycle, where the apparatus also comprises a setting device for the manual selection of one or more operating parameters, and signaling device. Coded information are contained within a memory, which are used by the control system as a function of at least one selection actuated through the setting device, for calculating the consumption of the external resource required by the household appliance to execute an operating cycle, the signaling means being capable, if required, to show the consumption level of the external resource.

  • Patent number: 6029121
Abstract: A distance measuring system for use on a golf course is provided that utilizes a portable unit for use by each golfer, and a single base unit. The system provides accurate position and distance information between each portable unit and various course features such as pins and greens, water traps, sand traps, and the like. The base unit and each portable unit utilize the Global Positioning System to determine their local positions. The base unit uses its known position and the known positions of the various course features, with the position from the portable unit to calculate accurate relative distances between the portable unit and the known course features. Position and distance information is communicated between the base unit and the portable units by radio link, along with other desired information. The distances and other information can be displayed at the portable unit.
