  • Patent number: 6053069
Abstract: A two piece hand brake release handle for a railway car hand brake mechanism having a relatively long lever one end of which is rotably fitted onto a rotatable brake release post extending from the hand brake mechanism, such that manual rotation thereof will not cause rotation of the brake release post, and a relatively short lever arm tightly fitted onto the brake release post such that rotation thereof will cause rotation of the brake release post, with the relatively short lever arm having an arm engaging flange extending transversely to receive and engage the relatively long lever arm such that manual rotation of the long lever arm in a given rotational direction will cause the long lever arm to engage the flange so that continued rotational movement of the long lever arm in the same rotational direction will cause rotational movement of the short lever arm, and accordingly, rotational movement of the brake release post as necessary to effect a brake release.

  • Patent number: 6053072
Abstract: A power transfer device for a motor vehicle having a modular housing assembly which supports a geartrain. A first embodiment of the modular housing assembly includes a case having unitary sidewall with terminal edges defining two opposed openings. The sidewall also defines an interior chamber and the openings are enclosed by a pair of cover plates. Pillow blocks are used to support the drive components of the geartrain within the chamber and are secured to shelves which extend from the sidewall. Loads created during operation are transmitted from the geartrain to the sidewall. The cover plates are secured to the terminal edges of the sidewall using a plurality of U-shaped spring clamps. A second embodiment of the modular housing assembly includes a box-like case having one open side. A cover plate is used to enclose the geartrain and lubrication fluid within the interior volume of the box-like case.

  • Patent number: 6050914
Abstract: A chain tension relieving device which prevents excessive tension being applied to a tension run of a chain. A shoe (5C) engages a tension run (3B) of a chain (3) stretched between a driving sprocket (1) and a driven sprocket (2) from another side of the chain in a bowed portion of the chain (3). When the tension acting on the tension run (3B) is of a prescribed value or less, the shoe surface of the shoe (5C) is held to a given advanced position so as to bow the tension run of the chain (3) by a biasing force of mechanical tensioner (15D). When the tension exceeds the prescribed value, the tension side (3B) of the chain (3) is straightened against the biasing force of the mechanical tensioner and the shoe surface of the shoe (5C) retreats from the given advanced position.

  • Patent number: 6048285
Abstract: An improved bearing mechanism works in conjunction with the control rod of a vertical blind system or a roller shade system to provide superior bearing and load handling capability. A conical bore has a plurality of grooves into the surface of the conical bore. A series of cylindrical rollers are supported within the grooves, and against a central rotational member having a conical surface for bearing against the rollers. A set screw is used to control the seating of the central rotational member within the conical bore, is used to make up any tolerance created through the manufacturing process, and can be used to increase the tension necessary to hold a roller shade in place.

  • Patent number: 6039663
Abstract: A belt steering apparatus for controlling inclined movement of the belt in, for example, a printer. The belt steering apparatus includes a first frame supporting a cylindrical roller having a predetermined portion which contacts an endless rotating belt, a second frame hinged to the center of the first frame, and a sliding member capable of sliding linearly, installed at one side of the first frame, and having an upper surface supporting a rotary shaft formed at one end of the roller, inclined from the direction of linear movement by a predetermined angle. A rack gear is provided on one side of the sliding member, and a pinion gear is connected to a rotary shaft of a motor mounted to the first frame, contacting a predetermined portion of the rack gear to linearly move the sliding member. Thus, the roller is easily tilted to forcibly raise and lower one side of the roller, and the pressure transferred from the belt can be withstood reliably.

  • Patent number: 6026706
Abstract: A locking sleeve for locking a rotary connection between the actuating bar of a brake system and a pedal lever is releasable in the event of crash. To permit, during assembly, a fast and safe locking engagement even under poor visual conditions, the locking device is supplied in pre-assembled condition, preferably, on the actuating bar. Advantageous embodiments relate to features insuring a reliable engagement in that bias forces release the connection in the event that the locking position has not been completely achieved.

  • Patent number: 6026710
Abstract: A torsional vibration damper is equipped with a drive-side transmission element and an output-side transmission element deflectable relative thereto. A friction device is connected between the transmission elements. The friction device has a friction element with at least two different friction areas. The friction element is arranged in a circumferential opening having circumferential ends in one of the transmission elements. As long as the friction element is movable within the circumferential opening relative to the ends of the circumferential opening, only a first friction area of the friction element is active. When the friction element contacts one of the circumferential ends of the circumferential opening, only a second friction area of the friction element is active.

  • Patent number: 6023995
Abstract: A vehicle accelerator pedal apparatus has a fixed base (i.e., a base fixed with respect to the vehicle upon which the apparatus is used) and an accelerator pedal pivot-mounted with respect to the base. The improvement comprises a frame pivot-mounted with respect to the base and defining an included angle therebetween. A sensor is mounted on the frame and an articulated linkage extends between the pedal and the sensor. A position-adjustment mechanism coacts between the base and the frame and sets the included angle. In a highly preferred embodiment, the mechanism includes plural, spaced-apart apertures through a base wall. Each aperture is in registry with a separate radial normal to the pedal pivot axis and by extending a pin through any one of the apertures, the included angle between the fixed base and the movable frame may be adjusted. In a specific embodiment, the spacing between any adjacent pair of radials is about 6.degree..

  • Patent number: 6021689
Abstract: A push-pull control cable assembly having a casing of a predetermined length with a core slidably received therein. A push-through-to-lock anchor fitting is provided at each end of the casing. A fixedly positioned terminal end fitting is secured to the core through an end rod. The fixedly positioned terminal end fitting employs a receiver with a blind bore. A slot in the receiver transversely intersects the blind bore, and a locking tab is received in the slot to be selectively slidable between first and second positions. The locking tab has an aperture. The aperture permits a connecting spur to be inserted therein and withdrawn therefrom when the locking tab is in its first position. The aperture engages the connecting spur to preclude withdrawal thereof when the locking tab is in its second position. A selectively positionable terminal end fitting is secured to the core through another end rod. The selectively positionable terminal end fitting has a housing.
