  • Patent number: 10984043
Abstract: Embodiments use successive refinement to allow a user to systematically explore the result set of an arbitrary query over RDF, such as a SPARQL query. A user inputs an arbitrary base query and modifies this query by replacing selected variables with values to which each selected variable is bound within the result set of the base query. Embodiments present, via a GUI, variable facets that may be substituted for query variables. Embodiments also present, through a GUI, a query history graph that represents query versions that a user has created. A user may navigate this query history graph to return to previously-created query versions. The GUI also provides information about the facets, including a number of results that would be included in the result set of the query version resulting from substitution of the facet for the associated variable.

  • Patent number: 10977226
Abstract: The values of various operating and/or configuration parameters of a data environment are managed using a set of self-service Web services and interfaces of a separate control environment. A customer can submit a Web services call into an externally-facing application programming interface (API) or other such externally-facing interface of the control environment. The API receiving the call, as well as information extracted from the call, can be used to determine appropriate adjustments to be performed in the data environment. A workflow can be instantiated that includes tasks used to validate and/or apply the adjustments to the target resources, such as databases, data instances, data stores, instance classes, etc. Various real-time functions such as monitoring and auto-scaling also can be performed via the control plane.

  • Patent number: 10977323
Abstract: An apparatus, method and associated system is described for the production of search results that are determined to be of interest to the user based on both the search phrase and the level of expertise of the user. Literature is analyzed from a plurality of different domains, and a database, map and/or lexicon is built that categorizes the literature by different levels of expertise. Each item of literature is assigned a particular level of expertise. At least one keyword in a user's search query is analyzed and compared with at least part of the database, and a user's level of expertise is based, at least in part, on the comparison. A set of search results is generated for the search query that is weighted, at least in part, based on a correlation between the user's level of expertise and the particular level of expertise assigned to each item of literature.

  • Patent number: 10977133
Abstract: Improved methods, systems and apparatus for storing and repairing multimedia files are provided that overcome the limitations of existing multimedia file repair technologies. Backup copies of the multimedia container information associated with given multimedia content data are stored, along with the multimedia content data, on an external storage detachably coupled to a recording device. A primary copy of the multimedia container information is stored on an internal storage associated with the recording device. The recording of the primary container information and the content data is performed in real-time or nearly real-time as the content data is captured by the recording device. In the case of an abnormal event (e.g., battery failure, disconnect of storage media), container information may be selected from the primary copy or the backup copies of the container information, thereby increasing the likelihood that the container file can be successfully repaired or regenerated.

  • Patent number: 10922289
Abstract: A device (100) for and a method of determining a length of a history of instances of a first type of data are provided. The device comprises a second data set unit (104), a first data set unit (102), a first conditional entropy unit (106), a threshold unit (108), and a length determining unit (114). The first data set unit, the second data set unit and the threshold unit obtain input data. The first conditional entropy unit determines a first conditional entropy for a second data set given a first data set. The determining unit searches for a length of the relevant history by determining a smallest length for sequences of a reduced first set of data for which a second conditional entropy for the second set of data, given the reduced first set of data, is within a maximum entropy increase threshold from the first conditional entropy.

  • Patent number: 10922327
Abstract: A user may submit a search query to a search engine, which may process the search query and generate a set of results. Previous actions of the user or of other users may be used to identify recommended search queries. The recommended search queries may be presented to the user along with the search results for the query. The location of the recommended search queries may be fixed, set by the user, or determined on a query-by-query basis. A user interface element operable to cause the presentation of one or more recommended search queries may be presented after a delay. After an additional or independent delay, the recommended search queries may be presented automatically. The delays may be fixed, set by the user, or determined on a query-by-query basis.

  • Patent number: 10915597
Abstract: Methods and systems for ranking a plurality of articles for rendering on a website for a user account include receiving a request for accessing the website. Features are identified for the plurality of articles selected for rendering on the website. Each feature is associated with a value parameter having a value in a multi-dimensional vector space. A pair of solutions is identified for an article of the plurality of articles, wherein the pair of solutions identifies a portion of the multi-dimensional vector space that satisfies multiple objectives. A vector point defining the optimal solution is selected for the article from within the portion of the multi-dimensional vector space. The selected vector point is used in computing an article score for the article. The article score for the plurality of articles is used to identify and present a subset of the articles on the website for the user.

  • Patent number: 10902021
Abstract: A method and system for automatically scaling out read operations in an automated self-scaling database system are provided. An automated self-scaling database module analyzes telemetry information from a primary database and a first standby database to determine whether there is the need for upscaling storage capacity and computation resources of the database system for read operations. When upscaling is needed, a snapshot of the first standby database is taken and stored at a snapshot storage system. The snapshot is a complete copy of data stored in a storage system of the first standby database at a given time. Upscaling is then automatically initiated by provisioning a new standby database by automatically provisioning a new virtual machine (VM) and a new storage system for the new standby database, and then restoring the snapshot that was taken from the snapshot storage system to the new standby database.

  • Patent number: 10891308
Abstract: A method and system are provided for automatically scaling out write operations in an automated self-scaling database system. The database system initially includes a first primary database (PD) and a first standby database. Telemetry information from the first PD is analyzed to determine whether the first PD has reached its maximum computation and storage capacity. If so, a write scaling process is automatically initiated so storage capacity and computation resources of the system can be upscaled for write operations. To write scale, a new PD can be automatically provisioned, and once it is active, tenants of the system can be distributed among the first PD and the new PD (e.g., equally distributed or distributed based on workload, etc.) such that the first PD handles requests that originate from a first group of the tenants, and the new PD handles requests that originate from a second group of the tenants.
