  • Patent number: 8565842
Abstract: A mobile wireless communications device includes a housing and circuit board carried by the housing and having radio frequency (RF) circuitry and a processor operative with each other. Audio circuitry is carried by the circuit board and an audio transducer assembly, such as a speaker, has electrical contacts that electrically engage the audio circuitry for carrying audio signals between the audio circuitry and audio transducer assembly. A filter is mounted at the audio transducer assembly and reduces radio frequency (RF) electromagnetic interference to the audio transducer assembly during device operation.

  • Patent number: 8559955
Abstract: A method and system for managing handover where a database that receives location information about a moving object includes information regarding which base station is used in a current radio link connection and which base stations were used from historic radio link connections. Using the base station radio link history of the object and an electronic map, a processor selects which physical path the moving object is using. Upon matching the object's path with a history of path routes on the list, the processor will apply an optimized handoff sequence to the moving object. The optimized route can be derived from an algorithm that processes previous historical data from moving objects traveling on the same route.

  • Patent number: 8532608
Abstract: A computer system determines location probabilities for defined sub-areas (41, 43) of a geographical area (4), e.g. for squares arranged in a grid (40), based on field strengths expected in the small sub-areas (41, 43) from the antennas (A1, A2 A3, A4), and based on the antenna used by the mobile communication terminal. The location probabilities indicate for a sub-area (41, 43) the probability that the mobile communication terminal is located in the respective sub-area (41, 43). The computer system determines at least one ellipse defining the location area, based on the location probabilities of the sub-areas (41, 43). The location probabilities make it possible to determine elliptical location areas of mobile users much smaller than the area each antenna does cover physically, but without the need for measuring at the mobile communication terminal signal properties such as signal strength or observed time differences.

  • Patent number: 8521134
Abstract: A security protocol may be implemented on a processor-based system by providing a wireless signal to a handheld device normally carried by the user. If a response is not received, it may be determined that the user is not sufficiently proximate to the device being accessed and that, therefore, the person accessing the device is not authorized. An appropriate security protocol may be implemented as a result.

  • Patent number: 8509815
Abstract: Methods and computer-readable media are provided to dynamically update a home agent with location-based information for a mobile device such that a third party, such as a law enforcement agency, may access the information to determine a location associated with the mobile device and, therefore, with the user of the mobile device. A signaling message is sent to a packet-routing component. The signaling message contains location-based information for a communications session. A transaction update is sent from the packet-routing component to the home agent each time the location-based information is updated, such as when the mobile device enters a new coverage area. A binding table is populated with the updated information. An acknowledgment is then sent from the home agent to the packet-routing component indicating that the information has been updated in the binding table. The third party is now able to access the location-based information via the home agent.

  • Patent number: 8494493
Abstract: Among other things, generating a dynamic digital data file for transferring to a mobile communication device includes receiving from a user a phone number associated with a mobile communication device. Also, a user selected digital data file is received. Authorization to access the received digital data file is verified. When detected that the received digital data file is verified as an authorized file, the user is able to edit the received digital data file to generate mobile content. A data connection with the mobile communication device associated with the received phone number is also established. Further, one or more operational parameters of the mobile communication device based on the established data connection are determined. The generated mobile content is transcoded into a format compatible to the determined operational parameters, and the transcoded mobile content is delivered to the mobile communication device.

  • Patent number: 8483654
Abstract: A novel system and method for enhancing people's personal safety and incident reporting is presented, wherein mobile devices are used to report and/or record both “911” type situations and non-emergency situations. Users of the invention can record, transmit, stream, upload and/or send information from a threatening situation to a dispatcher at an emergency management office or facility and to the user's safety group. The dispatcher can assess the situation and, if the situation warrants action, then the information can be forwarded to the appropriate first responders. The system geo-locates the user and allows integration of camera feeds in the user's vicinity. The inventive system and method enables a user to contact a dispatcher and also to alert the user's safety group. Four pieces of software facilitate video, audio, images and/or text medium of communication between the user-in-distress and the dispatcher, first responders and the user's safety group.
