  • Patent number: 7761170
Abstract: An implantable lead has a lead body construction designed to accommodate loading forces exerted on the lead body during patient movement. The lead body may be sufficiently stretchable to resist forces that could otherwise cause lead failure, axial migration of the electrodes, anchor damage, or tissue damage. Increasing stretchability of a lead body can also increase the vulnerability of the lead body to flex fatigue, buckling fatigue, kinking, and crush. Therefore, the lead described herein includes conductors that comprise coiled wires positioned substantially parallel to a center axis of the lead. The conductors described herein may be coiled around fibers that limit the axial stiffness of the coiled wires to ensure full recovery from axial loading.

  • Patent number: 7239894
Abstract: The principles of the present invention provides for using directional antennas to increase signal strength and enhance throughput in a wireless network. An antenna device includes an omni-directional antenna and at least one directional antenna. Each directional antenna (e.g., an electronically steered phased array antenna) can have one or more feeds for directing beams to wireless devices. The antenna device utilizes the omni-directional antenna to send and receive control data that facilitates locating wireless devices and determining when a wireless device is to send program data to or receive program data from the antenna device. The antenna device utilizes the directional antenna to send program data to and receive program data from wireless devices. Since the directional antennas use directional beams, the range and barrier penetration of directional antennas is greater than that of the omni-directional antenna.

  • Patent number: 7171223
Abstract: Methods and devices related to wireless networking. A wireless device has multiple directional antennas and multiple backhaul radio modules which provide point to point wireless links with other wireless devices. Each radio module can use any one of the available directional antennas to link to one other routing device. Antennas are automatically selected for each wireless device by merely setting one device in a “hunt” mode and setting another device in a “listen” mode. Devices in a hunt mode cycle through the available antennas by sequentially transmitting transmit messages to devices in the listen mode using each of the available antennas in turn. Devices in the listen mode also cycle through their available antennas by sequentially “listening” for transmit messages. A listen mode device, receives transmit messages on each of its available antennas, and, after gathering the relevant data, determines which of its antennas is best suited for communicating with the hunt mode device.

  • Patent number: 7162284
Abstract: A mobile phone has an upper antenna at the top of a casing constituting a body and a lower antenna at the bottom of the casing. The mobile phone includes an influence-on-antenna evaluation unit for evaluating the influence of the ambient environment on each of the antennas by determining an input impedance (Z) of each antenna at predetermined time intervals during connection and by comparing the determined input impedance with a predetermined input-impedance reference value (Z0). Transmission power corresponding to the amount of radio waves radiated is supplied to the antenna that is less affected by the ambient environment and transmission power is not supplied to the antenna that is more affected by the ambient environment.

  • Patent number: 7054592
Abstract: Via a mobile communication network, a transmission apparatus receives position information representing a current position of a reception apparatus. Based on the received position information, the transmission apparatus generates notice data indicating that it is necessary to correct preprogrammed program information identifying a program which has been preprogrammed for viewing or preprogrammed for recording and being generated at the reception apparatus, and transmits the generated notice data to the reception apparatus. Accordingly, a transmission apparatus is provided which generates information that allows preprogramming of a broadcast program for viewing or recording to be properly performed at the reception apparatus side, or which generates a correct broadcast program table, and transmits the generated information or program table to the reception apparatus.

  • Patent number: 7031657
Abstract: A new method and system are presented to drastically reduce the power absorbed by the body of the user's of mobile or wireless computing or communication devices, such as cell phones, so that the usage of those devices become safe for the users. In one case, multiple antennas are used, and the transmission is done in multiple steps or stages. The first antenna (the closest to the user) operates with extremely low power for short distances. In addition, the distance between the user and the last antenna is increased drastically. In another case, multiple frequencies are used, in combination with multiple antennas. The frequency chosen for the first antenna is selected from a range of frequencies corresponded to the low power absorption for a specific human tissue or for overall human body, as a weighted average. Other variations are also described in detail.

  • Patent number: 7010265
Abstract: A home satellite receiving system employs a transmodulating outdoor unit (ODU) that tunes to multiple signals, demodulates those signals into streams of data packets, and filters the streams of data packets to select data packets pertaining to viewer-specified programs. The ODU then constructs an integrated bitstream from the selected data packets and modulates that bitstream for transmission to an indoor IRD. This allows transfer of multiple programs from different satellite sources to the indoor IRD over a single coaxial cable. The indoor IRD reconstructs the packet stream timing for the viewer-specified programs from the integrated bitstream.

  • Patent number: 6980832
Abstract: In the described system, one or more base stations transmit a signal to a mobile station. The signal is transmitted using polarisation diversity, whereby the signal is transmitted in one direction using two signal beams, each signal beam being differently polarised. A method of beam-hoping may be employed whereby the polarisation of the transmitted beams during hand off is varied according to predefined sequence. The sequence may be determined according to the data loading within the respective transmission cells. Also disclosed is a method of soft or softer hand off within a wireless communication system where the total number of signal beams transmitted from two base stations to a single mobile station during hand off is kept constant.

  • Patent number: 6973326
Abstract: An enhanced closed-loop power control method includes the steps of: setting an initial value of a power control variable; detecting a strength of a terminal signal and comparing the detected strength with a reference Eb/No; transmitting a power control signal to a terminal according to the comparison result and the set power control variable value; and analyzing the power control signal transmitted to the terminal for a predetermined reference time period and resetting a power control variable. When the subscriber does not move in an area with a favorable radio reception sensitivity (that is, in a state that the Eb/No is a little changed) the base station sets the power control step-size lower than the current step-size and performs a fine power control. Thus, a flux of the transmission power can be prevented. And, since the number of puncturings performed per unit time is reduced, the data transmission efficiency can be heightened.
