  • Patent number: 8260258
Abstract: Provisioning of target related information into an IP Multi-media Subsystem (IMS) communications network, to provide lawful intercept, utilizes an interface between a lawful intercept server (LIS) and one or more of the Home Subscriber Servers (HSSs) of the network. The LIS provisions an HSS with target information for LI, with respect to a subset of the overall list of LI targets, that is to say with respect to those of targets homed on the respective HSS. The HSS provisions the target list for its subset down to Call Session Control Function elements (CSCFs) logically attached to that HSS, to enable each CSCF to intercept signaling messages relating to communication for identified target user equipment (UE) devices. The intercepted signaling enables the LIS to identify a location of a target UE device in an access network and instruct a network control point to intercept content of communications for that UE device.

  • Patent number: 8254960
Abstract: A method for selectively sending a location update request of a mobile phone is provided. The mobile phone determines whether it has entered a network coverage blind spot. Geographic information of the blind spot is obtained when the mobile phone is determined to have entered a network coverage blind spot, wherein the geographic information includes a length of the blind spot. The mobile phone senses a movement speed of the mobile phone if the network coverage blind spot is one of the predetermined blind spots. The mobile phone further calculates a time the mobile phone is in the blind spot according to the length of the blind spot and the movement speed of the mobile phone, and stop the periodical location update until the calculated time elapsed. The present disclosure further provides a related mobile phone.

  • Patent number: 8112038
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a system and method for downlink beamforming that takes into account imperfect channel state information (CSI) at the transmitter when determining the steering vector used in the beamforming process. The steering vector is calculated to increase the ratio of the average power of a desired signal component to the sum of the interference power of other wireless terminals, referred to as the signal-to-leakage ratio. By accounting for imperfect CSI when calculating the steering vector, the bit-error rate for a given signal-to-noise ratio is decreased. Also disclosed is a power allocation method that improves performance of the system by increasing the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio for all of the wireless terminals currently communicating with the base station. The power allocation similarly decreases the bit-error rate for a given signal-to-noise ratio, especially at high signal-to-noise ratios.

  • Patent number: 8040836
Abstract: A local network coding framework and method including techniques to improve efficiency in a wireless network by reducing overhead. The local network coding method includes exchanging data availability between nodes on the wireless network by sending Bloom filters of lists of packets to neighboring nodes. Based on data availability, optimized mixing of pure packets is performed to form mixture packets for output. A separate acknowledgement buffer keeps track of the pure packets transmitted but not acknowledged. If an acknowledgement does not arrive after a certain time period, the packet is assumed to be lost and is retransmitted. An optimized packet mixing process generates mixture packets and decides which nodes to send the mixture packets. The local network coding framework and method also includes methods for representing the composition of a mixture packet and using mixing at a wireless access point to improve the performance of the wireless local area network.

  • Patent number: 7864727
Abstract: If a wireless resource congestion occurs, the wireless resources of the entire system are used efficiently to reduce a disconnection of communication with a congested sector and a state in which a new call cannot be originated nor terminated. A base station control apparatus compares the wireless resource usage amount of each sector of each base station with values stored in a wireless resource threshold table. If a sector of a base station is in the light congestion state, the neighbor search window size of a sector specifying the congested sector as a neighbor is changed to restrict a soft hand-over to the congested sector. If a sector of a base station is in the heavy congestion state, a mobile station which is communicating in the congested sector and receiving radio waves of another sector with stability is subjected to a forced soft hand-over.

  • Patent number: 7864752
Abstract: Call setup in a wireless communication network that includes a circuit fabric and a packet fabric. The originating MSCe receives an origination message including a call termination identifier, and a predictive bearer path matching mode is determined. When the originating MSCe is in a first predictive bearer path matching mode, the originating MSC generates a bearer resource preference list based upon the termination identifier. The bearer resource preference list includes a predetermined priority order of a plurality of bearer path resource identifiers including at least one of a packet bearer resource identifier and a circuit bearer resource identifier. When the originating MSCe is in a second predictive bearer path matching mode, the MSCe generates a bearer resource preference list to indicate whether the originating MSCe couples to a packet bearer resource or a trunk bearer resource.

  • Patent number: 7853259
Abstract: A method of UU message transfer for fast call setup. The method includes encapsulating a Service Request into a RRC Connection Request. When a UE starts the service sensitive to call setup delay, the RRC layer encapsulates the Service Request into IDT. If this encapsulation is successful, the RRC connection request message undergoes non-critical extension, and the encapsulated IDT is disposed into the extended portion. The RNC, after receiving the extended RRC connection request, extracts the IDT message from the extended RRC CONNECTION REQUEST and sends it to the CN.

  • Patent number: 7853257
Abstract: This invention presents a method for fast call setup in a mobile communication system, including the steps of radio resource control (RRC) connection setup, Non-access stratum (NAS) signaling connection setup and NAS signaling interaction, and radio access bearer (RAB) setup. User equipment (UE) sends a RRC CONNECTION REQUEST, which encapsulates NAS, to RNC. In response, the radio resource control (RNC) digests the RRC CONNECTION REQUEST and forwards NAS to the core network (CN), which sends RAB Assignment Request to RNC and starts to send the paging message to the terminal call.

  • Patent number: 7746879
Abstract: A deterministic access system and method is provided that may be used for gaining access to a shared communication medium in a mesh or decentralized network. The deterministic access method enables QoS prioritization for periodic data flows such as those used in streaming media or VOIP communications without the direction of a central controller. The method provides a way for network nodes to schedule communications that take into account the hidden node problem, provide priority access to the communication medium for high QoS data flows, and provide shared access to the medium for lower priority data packets during unscheduled times. The method also enables both backward and forward compatibility with network communication methods as well as interoperability between mesh networks and conventional networks.

  • Patent number: 7747239
Abstract: SMS based alert messages are routed to subscribers via a Mobile Switching Center (MSC) such that SMS alert messages can be provided to specific cell sites. Also, SMS alert message can be provided to all subscribers registered in a specific cell site, including roamers. When an MSC receives one alert message, it routes that one message to all subscribers known to the MSC. In an example embodiment, an emergency alert message along with an indication of the alert area is received by an emergency alert server. MSCs capable of facilitating cellular coverage for the alert area are determined. Cell ID (cell sites) associated with the MSC are determined, and the alert message is routed to subscribers currently registered in the cell ID.
