  • Patent number: 5221234
Abstract: A cutting device and method for its operation are utilized to apply variably canted threads to a screw blank. A conventional cutting lathe is provided with a conventional hydraulically operated adjustable cutting support attached thereto. A guide plate is generally mounted upon the lathe adjacent the armature, which is guided therealong to produce a particular pattern in the workpiece. The armature is pivotable to permit cutting at particular angles into the surface of a workpiece. A secondary guide is utilized in producing a controlled variable pivot of the cutting armature during its progression along the body of the workpiece. The secondary guide is rigidly mounted to the adjustable cutting armature and precisely controls its movement during the cutting operation, producing a cutting operation having dual movement characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5218851
Abstract: A mandrel mill for rolling a tubing in a pass between a mandrel bar and a plurality of serially arranged roll stands. Each roll stand has a plurality of pairs of grooved rolls whose grooves are paired to define a part of the pass. The grooves of the rolls of a first roll stand define a hole having a circumference of not more than 1.12 times the outer circumference of a tubing at the exit of the final roll stand. The grooves of the second-stand rolls define a hole having a circumference of not more than 1.06 times that outer circumference, and those of the third-stand rolls define a hole having a circumference of not more than 1.02 times that outer circumference. Thus, the mandrel mill is capable of preventing stripping miss even when the billet is of a high-alloy steel.

  • Patent number: 5214950
Abstract: In the bending in a bending plane of a multiple tube having a plurality of compartments extending side-by-side in the longitudinal direction of the tube, a bending location is moved progressively along the tube and during bending a mandrel is located inside each said compartment at the bending location. To improve control of the tube shape, during at least part of the bending the position of at least one of the mandrels relative to the tube at the bending location varies in dependence on at least one parameter of the bending. At least one of said mandrels may be free to move, under constraint by a resilient force, in the longitudinal direction of the tube.

  • Patent number: 5210906
Abstract: A double-hinged device for a console box of an automobile whose lid can be opened or closed from either lateral side without using a lever or a similar tool. Since the device has a simple construction, it can be assembled easily and manufactured at a reduced cost. Two sets of a number of pivotal members 3 are removably arranged along the lateral edges of a console box main body 1 and two sets of the same number of connectors 4 are arranged at respective corresponding positions of a box lid 2 so that the pairs of pivotal members 3 and the connectors 4 can be releasably and mutually engaged to close the box lid by means of magnetic force or ball stoppers as they are placed in contact with each other. The box lid 2 can be opened simply by pulling upward either lateral edge of the box lid 2 as the pivotal members 3 and the connectors 4 arranged along that edge are mutually separated and the box lid 2 can be swung open around the other lateral edge.

  • Patent number: 5210904
Abstract: This invention relates to an interengaging handle having a first handle member and a second handle member capable of interengagingly receiving the first handle member. A flexible connecting strap is attached to the handle members through longitudinal bores passing the length of the handle members. A connecting strap is passed through the longitudinal bore of the first handle member and is fixed in a position relative to the first handle member by forming a transverse hole through the first handle member that passes through the longitudinal bore and the connecting strap. A rivet is then placed in the transverse hole fixing the connecting strap in position. Stabilizer flanges may also be formed at or near the ends of the first handle member and the second handle member to orient forces directed along the connecting strap downward and outward away from the axis of the handle assembly.

  • Patent number: 5209094
Abstract: A machine combines metal rod chamfering and stamping operations into a single machining operation. Cutting the chamfer on the end of the rod is accomplished by a rotating cutting tool affixed to a chuck which rotates with a spindle about an axis co-linear with the axis of the workpiece. Both the chuck and the spindle contain a hollow bore along their rotational axes. This bore holds a stamping rod which is free to move axially within the spindle. A stamping impact unit is located at the opposite end of the spindle which acts upon the opposite end of the stamping rod. At the desired moment within the chamfering operation, the stamping rod is hammered into the end face of the workpiece by the impact unit. The imprint end of the stamping rod functions as a mechanical stop to locate the depth the workpiece is inserted into a clamping collet.

  • Patent number: 5203191
Abstract: A wire working machine and system are described with a working platform on which a rotatable mount with individually controllable wire working tool actuators is provided. The rotatable mount surrounds a workzone in which wire is worked with the tool mount being rotatable about the workzone to provide center line working of the wire. The rotatable mount is formed with removable segments each of which can support a tool actuator but can be removed to enlarge the workzone. The workzone extends through the working platform to enable a second rotatable mount located on the opposite side to form workpieces passed through the workzone. The working platform is movable in x and y directions to align with a wire preforming machine to form a wire working system with great versatility, accuracy and improved productivity.

  • Patent number: 5203192
Abstract: A portable bending machine has a boxlike casing with an internal support structure fastened to its top plate only. A reinforcing steel rod is bent around a fulcrum roll by a bending roll revolving about the fulcrum axis, while an adjustable abutment on the top plate of the casing bears against the work. The bending roll, the fulcrum roll, the abutment, and a drive mechanism for revolving the bending roll about the fulcrum roll are all mounted, either directly or via the internal support structure, solely to the top plate of the casing. Consequently, all but the top plate of the casing walls can be made thinner than heretofore.

  • Patent number: 5201686
Abstract: In production of a lock nut used for fastening in cooperation with a bolt, a tubular material of a polygonal transverse cross section is machined into a crude block integrally made up of an angled main body and a truncated cone having a common, circular cente hole which is then tapped, a series of crude blocks are periodically and intermittently supplied to and registered at a shaping center provided on a holder assembly, each crude block is compressed with a compression mould to deform its tapped hole into a polygonal transverse cross section in the region of its truncated cone, and a lock nut thus produced are delivered out of the shaping center after compression. The process is fully automatized and the deformed transverse cross section of the rapped hole assures halmless, elastic, blanced fastening on a bolt in screw engagement of the lock nut.

  • Patent number: 5199927
Abstract: A machine and method for continuous thread tapping of threads in fasteners such as nut blanks or the like having a fastener blank advancement mechanism incorporated into a fastener blank holding and guidance assembly. A continuous stream of fastener blanks are fed into and securely held and advanced onto a tap by a modular worm jaw assembly. Fastener blanks are continuously fed into the worm jaw assembly so that a continuous progression of blanks are advanced onto the tap by forward turning of worms rotating within laterally opposed jaws which hold the fastener blanks and prevent them from rotating as they are advanced over the rotating tap. Once the nut blank is advanced over the tap, it is pushed by a progression of successive nuts along the length of the shank which supports the tap to the end of the shank opposite the tap die from which the tapped nuts drop into a receptacle. The worm jaw assembly is of modular construction to facilitate easy removal and replacement.
