  • Patent number: 6831893
Abstract: A network interface that processes data packets transmitted on a network is provided. The network interface includes a first data path, a second data path, a header processor, a classifier unit, and a plurality of packet processors. The first data path unit inputs downstream data packets transmitted downstream on the network, and the second data path unit inputs upstream data packets transmitted upstream on the network. The header processor inputs data packet headers of the downstream and upstream data packets from the first and second data path units and classifies the downstream and upstream data packets by comparing the headers with predetermined rules. The classifier unit also inputs the data packet headers from the first and second data path units and evaluates the headers determine flows corresponding to the downstream and upstream data packets.

  • Patent number: 6693886
Abstract: A method and apparatus for permitting mobile communications between a Mobile Services Switching Center (MSC) and a Mobile Station (MS) and between MSs by establishing for each transaction, including a call, an Internet Protocol (IP) connection in an IP network. In the invention a call to a MS is initiated by sending from the MSC to the MS, via the IP network, a call initiation message causing the MS to send a response message which includes a mobile identity that can be used as a session identifier identifying the MS. Responsive to the response message, the MSC sends a call set up message to establish an IP connection in the IP network upon which a transaction including the call is to be conducted. The call set up message includes a transaction ID which identifies the transaction. The IP network stores the transaction ID and maps the transaction ID with respect to the session identifier and the IP connection to be established.

  • Patent number: 6654355
Abstract: A method and corresponding apparatus for communicating a controller area network (CAN) message between a sending node, attached to a sending CAN network, and a receiving node, where the sending and receiving nodes are interconnected by a network communicating according to transmission control protocol/Internet protocol (TCP/IP). The invention provides for having the sending node extract the CAN message payload (arbitration field, control field and data field if any) from a CAN message, having it embed the CAN message payload in a TCP/IP frame as the TCP/IP data field of the TCP/IP frame, having it refer to a routing form to determine the address on the TCP/IP network of the receiving node; and having it transmit the TCP/IP frame over the TCP/IP network using the address for the receiving node from the routing form.
