  • Patent number: 4552622
Abstract: Means for cleaning the sealing surfaces of coke oven leveling doors and frames, the cleaning means being installed on a coke-pushing machine without any increase in the normal overall length thereof. A carriage extends between and is movable along guideways mounted on the side walls of a surrounding casing, the carriage being provided with liquid nozzles adapted to be directed at the sealing surfaces of the leveling door frame and the sealing surfaces of the leveling door when rotated upwardly. Nozzles are connected through hoses to a supply of high-pressure liquid, the arrangement being such that as the carriage moves along the guideways, high-pressure liquid issuing from the nozzles will clean the sealing surfaces of a leveling door frame and a leveling door when it is rotated upwardly.

  • Patent number: 4541979
Abstract: In the manufacture, for use in an optical cable element, of a tube of polymeric material, the drawn down extruded polymeric tube is annealed by causing it to travel through at least one elongate oven into which is injected, at a position intermediate of the ends of the oven, air or other gas which will have no deleterious effect on, and which is at a temperature sufficient to effect annealing of, the drawn down polymeric tube, and by directing the injected hot air or other gas on to the advancing drawn-down tube at a plurality of positions spaced along the length of the oven in such a way that turbulent flow and substantially even distribution of hot gas is provided around the advancing drawn-down tube. Use of this method of annealing enables the speed of manufacture to be at least twice the speed of manufacture hitherto achieved.

  • Patent number: 4533438
Abstract: A two-step method and apparatus, according to the fluidized bed principle, for the production of coke, rich gas and pyrolysis tar, with the object of executing the method in a compact apparatus arrangement, with high energy efficiency and high throughput capacity. This is accomplished by a sequence in which the fine grains removed from the drying vapor mixture are removed from the actual pyrolysis process, and a hot gas, alien to the carbonization, is used as fluidization medium in the pyrolysis reactor, and with a hot gas-high performance separator being used for the dust separation from the pyrolysis gas, with the combustion exhaust gas produced in the combustion chamber being used for the indirect heating of the fluidization medium, for the pre-heating of the gas, which is alien to the carbonization, and for the direct heating in the dryer.

  • Patent number: 4533439
Abstract: Method and apparatus for the regulation of the flow of fuel gas in the fuel gas supply duct of a heating wall of a coke oven to assure uniform heat distribution in the oven are provided. The regulating means consists of a thin plate having a similar shape to that of a fuel gas supply duct for insertion therein. Pivotally attached to and extending perpendicularly from the outer face of the plate are twin parallel control rods with gage marks inscribed thereon. To effect the regulation of fuel gas flow, the regulating means is inserted into the fuel gas supply duct at an appropriate location and the flow rate is adjusted by pivoting the plate by the manipulation of the adjusting rods.

  • Patent number: 4532010
Abstract: A door structure for coke oven is disclosed which includes at least two locking head rails and having a door body which is continuously made of a flexible and elastic material. According to this invention, the material of the door body and the sealing membrane or its compression elements are dimensioned such that ratio of the rigidity of the door body to the specific contact pressure of the sealing membrane is so small that the thermal deformation of the body is compensated mainly by the combined locking forces exerted by the head rails and by the contact forces exerted by the sealing strip.

  • Patent number: 4524943
Abstract: An injection mold for the manufacture of sealing elements consisting of elastic material and having undercuts, particularly sealing bellows for joints, for example ball joints in automotive vehicles, includes followers which are divided centrally in the longitudinal direction of the sealing element and form the outer contour. The mold has a core plunger which forms the inner contour and is divided into an upper core plunger part and a lower core plunger part which are movable relative to each other. The sealing element is removed from the foregoing parts after the opening of the followers. In order to be able to remove the sealing element automatically form the mold without the use of parting agent the followers are split in transverse direction into an upper and a lower pair of followers in the region between the inner undercut of smallest diameter and the outer undercut of smallest diameter.

  • Patent number: 4523979
Abstract: Retorted shale particles are recovered from a retort and delivered to a gas lift for transport to a fluidized combustor by passage, serially, through a sealing vessel, a crusher preferably operating at retort pressure, and a surge vessel. In the sealing vessel, a sealing gas is introduced, and after commingling with the shale, the gas passes countercurrently to the shale and enters the retort, thus sealing the retort gases in the retort while separating the retorted shale from the retort gases. Retorted shale from the sealing vessel is transported to a crusher, wherein the shale is reduced in size to that suitable for combustion under fluidized conditions. To prevent the crushed shale from packing, the shale is passed to a surge vessel, wherein the crushed shale is held as a fluidized bed, from which the crushed shale is continuously withdrawn at a regulated rate and introduced into the gas lift leading to the fluidized combustor.

  • Patent number: 4514354
Abstract: A method of forming pressed paperboard and pressed paperboard articles from a cellulosic fiber pulp, wherein the paperboard or paperboard articles has improved high temperature properties required of ovenable cookware. A preformed sheet or blank formed from a cellulosic fiber pulp, and having a water content in a range of from about 50% to about 100% by weight, is placed in an unheated press or mold to form the sheet or blank at a pressure in the range of from about 160 psi to about 2600 psi and then dried. When compared with hot press dried paperboard or shaped paperboard articles, such as ovenable baking trays, the products of the method of this invention have superior burst strengths after exposure to a temperature of 450.degree. F. (232.degree. C.) for one hour.
