  • Patent number: 9264862
Abstract: Methods and mobile devices determine an exit from a vehicle. Sensors of a mobile device can be used to determine when the user is in a vehicle that is driving. The same or different sensors can be used to identify a disturbance (e.g., loss of communication connection from mobile device to a car computer). After the disturbance, an exit confidence score can be determined at various times, and compared to a threshold. A determination of the exit of the user can be determined based on the comparison of the exit confidence score to the threshold. The mobile device can perform one or more functions in response to the exit confidence score exceeding the threshold, such as changing a user interface (e.g., of a navigation app) or obtaining a location to designate a parking location.

  • Patent number: 9201140
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a ranging method by using a first signal transmitted by a first device, and a second signal generated and transmitted by a target device in response to the first signal. The ranging method calculates the distance between the target device and a second device being in communication with the first and target devices, by using: a first time interval from a point in time of first device's transmitting the first signal to a point of receiving first part of the second signal; a second time interval from a point of the second device's receiving the first signal to a point receiving the first part of the second signal; and a delay time interval from a point of the target device's receiving the first signal to a start time of the second signal and a duration of the first part of the second signal.

  • Patent number: 9173081
Abstract: A system and method for telecommunications operators to enable group based dynamic policy controls for both pre-paid and post-paid subscribers, who are typically not managed in an Online Charging System (OCS), but rather in an Charging System or a Billing System. Examples of policy controls that may be enabled by this invention include tracking spending for post-paid subscribers, managing subscriber usage across fixed-line and mobile networks, and so on. This is achieved by introducing a new component called the Enhanced Charging System (ECS) and creating a new reference point and interface between the Policy Management System and the ECS.

  • Patent number: 9161202
Abstract: A local communication network (16) comprising a first client communication unit (10) and at least one second communication unit (12), and a method of roaming. The client communication units comprise a first interface unit (14) and a second interface unit (18) for connecting to said local communication network (16) and a remote network (20), respectively, and a bridging unit (22). The client communication units are operative in a first mode, in which said first client communication unit (10) bridges traffic between said local communication network (16) and said remote communication network (20) through a first communication path, and in a second mode, in which said second communication unit (12) scans for an alternative second communication path. A roaming control unit (24) determines whether the alternative second communication path is preferred over said first communication path. If this is the case mode of operation is switched and bridging is taken over by said second client communication unit (12).

  • Patent number: 9137012
Abstract: A first processing device, which may be, for example, a wireless authentication token or an RFID tag, transmits information in a wireless network in a manner that emulates standard communications of an access point of the wireless network, although the first processing device is not configured to operate as an actual access point of the wireless network. A second processing device, which may be, for example, a computer or other station of the wireless network, receives the transmitted information and is able to determine therefrom that the information originates from an emulated access point rather than an actual access point. The second processing device responds to this condition by utilizing the transmitted information in a manner distinct from its utilization of similar information received from the actual access point of the wireless network.

  • Patent number: 9107136
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for controlling access of a mobile device to a femtocell base station in a communications network are described. The method determines whether to allow access of the mobile device to the femtocell base station based on the femtocell-mobile device path loss for transmissions between the mobile device and the femtocell base station. Access may be allowed if the femtocell-mobile device pathloss is lower than a threshold amount. Additionally or alternatively access may be allowed only if the femtocell-mobile device pathloss is lower than the macrocell-mobile device pathloss for transmissions between the mobile device and a macrocell base station. The method is particularly applicable for hybrid access mode femtocells and additional conditions may be applied regarding the number of mobile device that are not part of the subscriber group that can access the femtocell. The method may be implemented by the femtocell, the macrocell or by any other suitable network device.

  • Patent number: 9105039
Abstract: Systems and methods are presented for providing mobile alerts to members of a social network upon the occurrence of certain trigger events related to the social network, including member-trigger events, venue-trigger events, and other-trigger events. A member may select and edit their own mobile-alert settings that determine which events are trigger events. The member may enable or disable all their mobile alerts using a single action, such as toggling a digital button on their phone screen. A data processor receives indication of, or determines occurrence of, a trigger event. The data processor then determines whether to communicate a mobile alert to the member based on the member's mobile-alert settings. The alert may be communicated to the member's mobile communication device, such as a mobile phone, using a variety of convenient means, such as a text message or Push Notification.

  • Patent number: 9094882
Abstract: A network sends to a user equipment UE downlink signaling indicating at least one frequency which is subject to special handling. In response the UE measures and reports neighbor cells operating on any of that/those frequencies without regard to a threshold signal strength of a serving cell which is configured for reporting neighbor cells. In more specific examples, if the neighbor cells operating on any of that/those frequencies is considered a first set of neighbor cells, then the network also sends a second set of neighbor cells in other downlink signaling. Measuring and reporting on the first set of neighbor cells is less frequent than for the second set of neighbor cells, when measurements of the second set is required. Measuring and reporting on the second set is dependent on measured signal strength of a serving cell being greater than the configured threshold signal strength of the serving cell.

  • Patent number: 9088909
Abstract: A radio access system receives packets from a local source of streaming media content via a local connection and from remote packet sources via a remote network. The radio access system communicates with a subscriber station via an air interface that includes an uplink and a downlink. A packet classifier in the radio access system maps packets having the subscriber station's IP address as destination address to the subscriber station's downlink. The subscriber station communicates with a content controller via the remote network to request selected streaming media content. The content controller instructs the radio access system to convey the selected streaming media content from the local source to the subscriber station. In response, the packet classifier maps the packets containing the selected streaming media content to a downlink (either the original downlink or a new one) for transmission to the subscriber station.

  • Patent number: 9084218
Abstract: Methods and systems for a user to receive location-based services for user selected locations while maintaining the privacy of his/her location unless in the vicinity of a user selected location. A user designates selected locations to the LBS provider. The LBS provider digitally signs grid cell identifiers of approved locations and the signatures are stored in the user's mobile device. The mobile device determines the grid cell identifier of its current location, blinds the grid cell identifier, and sends the blinded grid cell identifier to the LBS provider. The LBS provider digitally signs the blinded grid cell identifier, and returns the signature to the mobile device. The mobile device removes the blinding from the blinded signature to obtain the digital signature for the grid cell identifier. The user's mobile device then compares the signature of the grid cell identifier with those stored in its memory to determine whether the user is near any approved locations.
