    Abstract: Current 5G provisions for wireless communications do not allow for the differentiation of channel access by User Equipments (UEs) with different priorities. Approaches are described by which priority access for UEs in a controlled environment using frame based equipment (FBE), and in particular for different UEs or the same UE that has different configured grants. The approaches are particularly helpful for ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC) UEs. In one approach, the UE performs a clear channel assessment (CCA) in an idle period before the fixed frame period (FFP), followed by a channel access priority test. In an alternative approach, the UE performs a channel access priority test before the UE performs a clear channel assessment (CCA) in an idle period before the fixed frame period (FFP).
