Abstract: Systems and methods for defining a form with a plurality of layout items for data presentation by a business application provide a tree view with tree nodes to represent the layout items, wherein the view visualizes structure information, a processing order, a selected tree node to represent a selected layout item; provide a property view to display properties of the selected layout item; provide a layout view to display items, wherein the selected layout item is highlighted; modify the selected layout item and the processing order through interaction with a user; and create a form definition document. The compatibility of layout items and processing order with a predefined data interface of the business application is verified as well.

Abstract: A system and method for authoring web pages that permits a user to select a schema for the web page and a template for visually rendering the web page. Once a web page has been visualized and published, a second template may be used to revisualize the web page without having to recreate the web page or any links pointing to the web page.

Abstract: A methodology through which a host site may automatically insert relevant links into a set of text. In this methodology, the contents of the text are compared against a database containing character strings, and the character strings from the database contained in the text are identified. Each of the character strings in the database has an associated link that connects to other webpages on the same website or other websites. For each character string of the database found in the contents of the text, the associated link is inserted into the text. In this way, only relevant links are inserted into the text.

Abstract: Information matching output attributes and/or content attributes is contained in a single data content for distribution and is divided by tags for separation during processing. The expression format is prescribed by style sheets, so that the receiving system side selectively stores style sheets matching the content attributes of the distribution content or matching the output attributes of the output apparatus.

Abstract: A process for the construction of an edition layout comprised by at least one sheet in which is displayed at least one visual element, information relating to the layout being stored in a database in the identified fields interconnected by connections, a visual representation according to the reality of at least one portion of the edition layout being adapted to be displayed by at least one visualization device. At least one display of a visual representation is provided in the form of a dynamic and interactive display permitting a modification by an intervener or user of the visual representation of the layout or a portion of the layout, and an automatic control between the visualization device (9, 10) and the database (8) is provided.

Abstract: An image forming device for dividing a continuous document without the concept of pages, such as an HTML document, into pages, the device being capable of responding to a user's various needs in connection with page dividing. A page dividing processor (304) is provided with a plurality of page dividing algorithms which differ in terms of treatment of a document element placed across a page boundary. When a user inputs a page dividing policy using a user interface (301), a dividing algorithm designating section (305) specifies a page dividing algorithm corresponding to the policy, and notifies the page dividing processor (304) of the algorithm. The page dividing processor (304) divides an HTML document into pages according to the algorithm.

Abstract: A method and apparatus that utilizes coordinates of a “hot spot” selected in an image map to index a location in a secondary image. An object table is indexed using data stored in the indexed location of the secondary image to link a program action to the “hot spot”.

Abstract: Methods for assigning URLs to graphical objects (such as buttons) are disclosed. In one aspect, zip codes are used to identify and assign geographically relevant URLs to buttons. In a second aspect, a graphical user interface enables a user to select from a plurality of radio buttons and menu entries to identify search results satisfying the user's selection criteria. In a third aspect, search results are displayed in an IFRAME so that the Web page need not be replotted each time the server identifies URLs satisfying the user selection criteria. In a fourth aspect, information identifying a user's button assignments or preferences (such as the user's zip code) is stored in various data fields in a cookie data structure. The computer-executable instructions use the information contained in the cookie data structure to assign the URL to the button each time the Web page is displayed.

Abstract: A method for processing a received message is provided. Such a method may associate the message with a default language that corresponds to a default codepage. Thereafter, portions of the message are identified as having language keys corresponding to unique language key codepages associated therewith. The language of each of the identified portions of the message is converted using the corresponding language key codepage and the language of portions of the message that do not have an associated language key with is converted with a default codepage. Also disclosed is a method for generating a message that associates the message with a default language and assigns each portion of the message that is not in the default language with a language key that corresponds to the language.

Abstract: The invention describes system and method for generation a derivative document from a patent document, which provide value, enhanced representation of the document and facilitate comprehension of information contained in the patent document. A segment of the patent document is selected and transformed into a value added form by extracting at least two portions of information from the selected segment and converting them into different forms. Conveniently, the converted forms include respective elements where the required correspondence is established between the elements. Depending on customer needs and requirements to the system, a customized selection of the elements can be provided with optional display, storage and/or delivery of the selected data over a network. Beneficially, generation of the derivative is performed by using distributed processing of the document in a network, where two or more computers are involved.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, implement techniques for configuring at least a portion of a document for display in a display environment. The techniques include generating a document color palette for all or a portion of an electronic document, where the colors of the document color palette are selected based on colors of a plurality of color containing objects in the document or portion thereof, and generating a plurality of views of the document, two or more of the views being based on different color palettes. The plurality of views includes a document view including each of the plurality of color containing objects, where each color containing object in the document view is represented using the document color palette.

Abstract: Electronic document design methods and computer programs allowing a user to separately control and modify layout and the design components of an electronic document. A number of possible document layouts and possible document designs are stored. A document is based on the combination of one of the stored layouts and one of the stored designs. While the user is viewing the electronic document, controls are available to the user allowing the user to view and select among alternate layouts and designs for that document. Color schemes and font schemes for the document may also be separated controlled.

Abstract: To efficiently search an evaluation result of a plurality of XPath expressions with respect to a data file such as an XML document: an evaluation result of an XPath expression is obtained by generating a data structure with a redundant element by evaluating what common part or dependency has been omitted from a plurality of XPath expressions to be evaluated, and then the data structure is used with respect to a data file to be processed.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to systems and methods of creating and deploying electronic forms for collecting information from a user using a browser, where the browser may be one of a plurality of browser platforms. Characteristics of forms are entered by a human designer using a form designer by using drag-and-drop operations, and stored in XML template files. The form may be previewed by the designer. When a user on the Internet (or an intranet) requests a form by a browser, the characteristics of the browser are sensed and a form appropriate for the browser is deployed to the browser by a form server. Information is then captured from the user. The form may also be saved or printed.

Abstract: A computer-based report is generated based on report data and according to a report definition describing how to render the report on a page or screen or the like. The report definition may have standard data recognizable to a report processor, and may also have custom data not recognizable to the report processor but to, for example, a rendering extension of such processor. The report processor though not recognizing the custom data. does not delete or ignore but instead passes the custom data in an intermediate format. Thus, the rendering extension which does recognize the passed-through custom data can in fact interpret and act upon such custom data.

Abstract: Systems and methods for electronic management can be configured so that content is stored apart from the information for formatting the content. A data structure for the content may be initially defined, and content items may be stored in the data structure. Formatting information may be stored separately from the content in the form of a template. To publish formatted content, the stored content may be merged with the template. Specialized tags may be included in the template to permit added publishing functionality. In this manner, the system can easily manage large volumes of content and deliver the content to a variety of specialized target devices.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the display of multi-frame-based information on devices such as mobile terminal devices, wherein a possible definition of “a frame” is a display area of an application that is scrollable, if the whole content can not be displayed at once. More specifically, the present invention relates to a method and a device to select one or more frames of a plurality of received or retrieved frames to be displayed as an active frame. The method comprises determining for each frame the total data content and the displayed data content, calculating for each of said frames a ratio of said determined data content and said determined displayed data content, and selecting the frame with the largest ratio for display as an active frame.

Abstract: A document-information processing device includes an analysis unit and a process unit. The analysis unit analyzes construction of document information that is composed of a plurality of elements, and evaluates a degree of significance of each element included in the document information. The process unit selects an element sequentially from the plurality of elements, starting from an element whose degree of significance is the highest and ending with an element whose degree of significance is the lowest, and places a selected element on an output document. Alternatively, the process unit reduces an information content of the document information by eliminating or compressing an element whose degree of significance is low.
