  • Patent number: 11395873
Abstract: Embodiments of negative pressure wound therapy systems and methods for operating the systems are disclosed. In one embodiment, a negative pressure source can provide negative pressure via a fluid flow path to a wound dressing comprising a stabilizing structure. The stabilizing structure can be inserted into a wound and collapse upon application of negative pressure to the wound when the stabilizing structure is positioned in the wound. A controller can in turn determine a measure of collapse of the stabilizing structure from a pressure in the fluid flow path while the negative pressure source maintains a magnitude of the pressure in the fluid flow path within a negative pressure range. The controller can output an indication responsive to the measure of collapse.

Abstract: A system for automatically removing by suction urine voided by a female. The system includes an external catheter, a canister and a suction regulator. The external catheter is applied at the urethra opening to receive urine voided by the female. The canister collects the urine and is coupled to a source of suction having a first value. The suction regulator is interposed between the external catheter and the canister to regulate the amount of suction to a regulated value which is applied the external catheter, whereupon urine from the external catheter is carried through the suction regulator and into the canister. The system may also include an adapter or an adapter/splitter for connection between the source of suction and the canister.

  • Patent number: 11305052
Abstract: A suction-based medical dressing assembly and method of dermal irrigation provides a flexible tube that is fluidly coupled to at least two bifurcated tube portions defined by a plurality of apertures. The tube has a proximal end opening for discharging ambient fluid. The length of the bifurcated tube portions is surrounded by an absorbent gauze material covered substantially with an occlusive sheet material, and having an adhesive strip thereon. A vacuum assembly creates a negative pressure in the tubes. The ambient fluid is absorbed by the absorbent material, and the negative pressure sucks the fluid through the apertures in the bifurcated tube portions for discharge through the opening in the tube. In operation, a patient applies the adhesive side of the occlusive device to the skin where liquid removal is desired and activates the vacuum-inducing source, thereby causing fluid runoff from the patient to be effectively removed for disposal.

  • Patent number: 11167075
Abstract: In some embodiments, a negative pressure apparatus includes a negative pressure source configured to provide negative pressure via a fluid flow path to a wound dressing placed to create a seal over a wound, a pressure sensor, and a controller. The controller can be configured to operate the negative pressure source in a first mode and determine a change in pressure in the fluid flow path over a period of time based on a plurality of measurements by the pressure sensor. In response to a determination that pressure in the fluid flow path is decreasing, the controller can operate the negative pressure source in a second mode in which greater amount of negative pressure is provided than in the first mode. In response to a determination that pressure in the fluid flow path is not decreasing, the controller can provide an indication of a first leak in the seal.

  • Patent number: 11141561
Abstract: A urinary catheter is readily removed and replaced with a second urinary catheter without introducing foreign matter or contaminants into the bladder. The first urinary catheter includes an extra lumen that houses a sheath, which sheath seals the extra lumen from introduction of fluids. The sheath seals an opening hole at or near the tip of the catheter. After the sheath is extracted from the catheter, a guidewire is threaded through the extra lumen and into the patient's bladder. The first urinary catheter is withdrawn from the patient, leaving the guidewire in the patient. A second urinary catheter is inserted into the patient over the guidewire, with the guidewire present in the urine lumen of the second urinary catheter. The guidewire then is extracted from the patient. The second urinary catheter may also have an extra lumen and a sheath with a break-away seal so that the second urinary catheter may be removed and replaced in like manner.
