Abstract: Disclosed are a high-strength ultra-thick steel material and a method for manufacturing same. The high-strength ultra-thick steel material comprises in weight % 0.04-0.1% of C, 1.2-2.0% of Mn, 0.2-0.9% of Ni, 0.005-0.04% of Nb, 0.005-0.03% of Ti and 0.1-0.4% of Cu, 100 ppm or less of P and 40 ppm or less of S with a balance of Fe, and inevitable impurities, and comprises, in a subsurface area up to t/10 (t hereafter being referred to as the thickness of the steel material), polygonal ferrite of 50 area % or greater (including 100 area %) and bainite of 50 area % or less (including 0 area %) as microstructures.
Abstract: An additive manufacturing device includes a recoater configured to push powder onto a build platform. The recoater defines an advancing direction for pushing powder. A gas mover is mounted to the recoater and is configured to flow gas to remove powder from the build platform as the recoater moves along the advancing direction.
Abstract: A method of forming a coating of an Al—Zn—Si—Mg alloy on a steel strip to form an Al—Zn—Mg—Si coated steel strip is disclosed. The method includes the steps of dipping steel strip into a bath of molten Al—Zn—Si—Mg alloy and forming a coating of the alloy on exposed surfaces of the steel strip and cooling the coated strip with cooling water. The cooling step includes controlling the p H of cooling water to be in a range of pH 5-9. Particular embodiments focus on Al—Zn—Si—Mg alloys that contain the following elements in % by weight: Zn: 2 to 19, Si: 0.01 to 2, Mg: 1 to 10, and Balance Al and unavoidable impurities.

Abstract: A process of producing a fine-grained austenitic stainless steel, the process comprising a step of subjecting a fine-grained austenitic stainless steel comprising: C: 0.15 wt % or less, Si: 1.00 wt % or less, Mn: 2.0 wt % or less, Ni: 6.0 to 14.0 wt %, Cr: 16.0 to 22.0 wt %, and Mo: 3.0 wt % or less, with the balance being Fe and inevitable impurities, and having an average grain size of 10 ?m or lower, to an annealing treatment at a temperature from 600° C. to 700° C. for 48 hours or longer.
Abstract: Metal components subject to wear or contact fatigue in a first area, and subject to bending, axial and/or torsional stress loading in a second area comprise a surface hardened, first surface layer in the first area, and a surface compressive-stress treated, second surface layer in the second area. The second surface layer has a material hardness different from, and typically lower than, the first surface layer, and induced residual compressive stress to improve fatigue strength. Example components described include a gear, a cog, a pinion, a rack, a splined shaft, a splined coupling, a torqueing tool and a nut driving tool. A hybrid manufacturing process is described, including area-selective surface hardening combined with a process to add compressive stress to fatigue failure prone areas.
Abstract: In one aspect, an additive manufacturing system is provided. The additive manufacturing system includes a build platform, a first plurality of particles positioned on the build platform, and a particle containment system positioned on the build platform. The particle containment system includes a particle containment wall. The particle containment wall at least partially surrounds the first plurality of particles and includes a second plurality of particles consolidated together. The particle containment wall includes a top end spaced apart from the build platform, an inner face positioned against the first plurality of particles and extending between the build platform and the top end, and an outer face that faces a substantially particle-free region, the outer face positioned opposite the inner face and extending between the build platform and the top end.

Abstract: The present invention provides a samarium-cobalt magnet and a method for preparing the same. The method comprises mixing an alloy powder with a zirconium powder in an amount of 0.1-0.35 wt % of the weight of the alloy powder to form a mixture. The alloy powder is formed from 10.5-13.5 wt % of samarium, 12.5-15.5 wt % gadolinium, 50-55 wt % of cobalt, 13-17 wt % of iron, 4-10 wt % of copper, and 2-7 wt % of zirconium. The method brings about at low costs a samarium-cobalt magnet having a positive temperature coefficient of remanence.

Abstract: A high-strength high-elongation tinned primary plate and a double cold reduction method therefor. The tinned primary plate comprises the following components by weight from 0.065 to 0.12% of carbon, from 0.2 to 0.8% of manganese, from 0.003 to 0.015% of nitrogen, the remainder being iron and the inevitable trace impurities. The tinned primary plate is necessarily subjected to double cold reduction at a reduction of 5˜13% and a rolling tension of 50˜100 MPa. The tinned primary plate has a yield strength of Rp0.2?520 MPa, and percentage elongations in rolling direction RD, 45° direction and perpendicular direction TD, which are all greater than or equal to 10% after bake-hardening.
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for the treatment of sludge containing iron and between 4.5% to 12% by weight of zinc. This method includes a leaching step wherein leaching agents include hydrochloric acid and chlorate, and wherein the pH of the leachate directly resulting from this leaching step is set at a value below 1.5. A recycling method and treatment installation are also provided.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing a component from a medium manganese flat steel product having 4 to less than 10 wt. % Mn, 0.0005 to 0.9 wt. % C, 0.02 to 10 wt. % Al, the remainder iron, including unavoidable steel-accompanying elements, and having a TRIP effect at room temperature. In order to produce a component, which is distinguished by very high strengths and an increased residual strain and re-shaping capacity, the flat steel product, according to the invention, is re-shaped by at least one re-shaping step to form a component and, before and/or during and/or after the at least one re-shaping step, the flat steel product is cooled down to a temperature of the flat steel product of less than room temperature to ?196° C. The invention further relates to a component produced by this method and to a use for said components.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing a sintered magnet includes molding a green compact formed by compacting a magnet powder by press-molding the magnet powder, the green compact forming an R—Fe—B based sintered magnet having Nd as the principal component and containing a rare earth element R, sintering the green compact by heating to a sintering temperature, so as to mold a sintered magnet, pressure molding the sintered magnet by heating to a temperature not exceeding the sintering temperature, so as to correct dimensions of the sintered magnet, and adjusting the texture of the sintered magnet by aging heat treatment using heated atmosphere produced when correcting the dimensions of the sintered magnet at a temperature not exceeding the temperature during the pressure molding.
Abstract: To provide a rare earth magnet having excellent coercive force and a production method thereof. A rare earth magnet, wherein the rare earth magnet comprises a magnetic phase containing Sm, Fe, and N, a Zn phase present around the magnetic phase, and an intermediate phase present between the magnetic phase and the Zn phase, wherein the intermediate phase contains Zn and the oxygen content of the intermediate phase is higher than the oxygen content of the Zn phase; and a method for producing a rare earth magnet, including mixing a magnetic raw material powder having an oxygen content of 1.0 mass % or less and an improving agent powder containing metallic Zn and/or a Zn alloy, and heat-treating the mixed powder.

Abstract: A nitrogen-containing microalloyed spring steel and a preparation method thereof are provided. The chemical components are: 0.45-0.52% of carbon, 0.15-0.35% of silicon, 0.90-1.10% of manganese, 0.90-1.15% of chromium, 0.10-0.25% of molybdenum, 0.10-0.20% of vanadium, 0.025-0.04% of niobium, 0.007-0.012% of nitrogen, less than or equal to 0.03% of lead, tin, zinc, antimony, and bismuth, less than or equal to 25 ppm of oxygen and hydrogen, less than or equal to 0.02% of sulfur and phosphorus, less than or equal to 0.2% of copper, less than or equal to 0.35% nickel, and a balance of iron. The spring steel has significantly improved properties, including high mechanical strength, large elongation, high reduction of area, and good anti-fatigue performance.
Abstract: A densified, high-strength metallic component is manufactured by: binder jet additive manufacture (BJAM) printing a powder blend to form a printed part; and super solidus sintering the printed part to form the metallic component, which may then be heat treated. The powder blend comprises a blend of water atomized base iron powder and a high-carbon master ferroalloy powder. The high-carbon ferroalloy powder introduces high concentrations of carbon into a powder blend that is readily BJAM printable.
