  • Patent number: 8180373
Abstract: A controlling device such as a remote control has programming for transmitting a signal response to a plurality of control environments, each environment including a signaling device. Each signaling device in receipt of the signal request sends a signal response having a unique ID which is chosen to be characteristically attenuated by the surroundings of the environment. Because the controlling device can only be in one environment at a given time, and given the attenuation characteristics of the signal response from each signaling device, only one signal response will be received by the controlling device in each environment. Location definitions associated with the received unique ID may be used by programming in the controlling device to recall saved devices states, commands sets, macros, and even to dynamically generate commands based on the location information.

  • Patent number: 8180340
Abstract: A method for saving files in a mobile communication terminal includes: if an externally pluggable memory is detected, determining whether a count corresponding to the memory is present in the mobile communication terminal; if a count corresponding to the memory is present, checking whether a file save command is input in the memory; and if a file save command is input, increasing the count, and saving the count and the files in the memory. The files can be saved based on folders in the memory, thereby enhancing the file save speed. Each memory has a count, thereby making it easy to ascertain the number of saved files.

  • Patent number: 8179875
Abstract: A method is described for the provisioning of latency-tolerant services in an access network. The method comprises the steps of: setting a demand to provide a service to a user; determining the network resources required to provide this service; establishing based upon the resources required to provide that service, the available network resources and/or the network's service provisioning policy, whether the provisioning of this service shall be immediately effected or be postponed to a later stage. If it has been established that the service will be provided at a later stage, it will be provided at a time when the available resources and/or the network's service provisioning policy match that of the resources required for the provisioning of the service.

  • Patent number: 8180339
Abstract: Methods, apparatuses and systems directed to providing network management information to wireless access points in a wireless network. In one implementation, a wireless client interrogates a wireless access point for its MAC address, for service set identifier (SSID) information, and/or for authentication-related information. If the wireless client determines that the wireless access point is the correct wireless access point, the wireless client polls sensors for physical environment and parameter (PEP) data, which the wireless client then transmits to the wireless access point.

  • Patent number: 8175623
Abstract: A mobile domain platform for subscribers (e.g. businesses, institutions, advertising agencies, partners, providers, individuals, and enterprises) to offer a text message based campaign to new or potential customers (users). A subscriber can create a mobile domain by selecting and registering at least one available keyword with a mobile domain platform for the subsequent processing of text messages sent to the platform which include one or more of the registered keywords. Also, the subscriber can register one or more keywords as a root for a mobile domain such that subsequent text messages sent to the mobile domain platform that include additional alphanumeric strings of text (root keyword plus one or more combinations of other predetermined keywords) can be automatically processed to enable one or more different actions. A mobile domain keyword is generally composed of one or more alphanumeric characters, and can be any one of a word, phrase, abbreviation, or character.

  • Patent number: 8175575
Abstract: Communication networks and methods are disclosed for performing online charging credit control in a visited network when a user is roaming. The visited network which is providing service to a roaming user includes a proxy online charging system (OCS) that communicates with a home OCS in a home network of the user. The proxy OCS transmits an online charging request message to a home OCS in a home network for the roaming user requesting charging information for the roaming user. The proxy OCS receives an online charging response message from the home OCS that includes the charging information for the roaming user. The proxy OCS then processes the charging information to perform credit control for one or more network elements in the visited network that is serving the session.

  • Patent number: 8170584
Abstract: A network device, method, and apparatus are directed towards intercepting a message, such as an SMS, EMS, MMS message, email message, or the like, from a source device directed towards a mobile device. The intercepted message's contents are analyzed. In addition, a mobile user profile is determined from characteristics of the mobile device and tracked usage of a mobile user of the mobile device. An actionable event may then be inserted into the intercepted message based, in part, on the analysis and the mobile user profile. The modified message is then provided to the mobile device, where the mobile user may select the actionable event to receive non-requested content.

  • Patent number: 8170585
Abstract: A method and system for determining an approximate range from a location measurement unit to a mobile device. An uplink signal from the mobile device is received by the location measurement unit, and an uplink frame marker is determined from the uplink signal. A downlink signal is received at the location measurement unit from a base station serving the mobile device, and a downlink slot marker is determined from the downlink signal. A round trip propagation delay is determined based upon the uplink frame marker and the downlink slot marker, and an approximate range from the location measurement unit to the mobile device is determined as a function of the round trip propagation delay.

  • Patent number: 8170579
Abstract: The location of a wireless mobile device may be estimated using, at least in part, one or more pre-existing Network Measurement Reports (“NMRs”) which include calibration data for a number of locations within a geographic region. The calibration data for these locations is gathered and analyzed so that particular grid points within the geographic region can be determined and associated with a particular set or sets of calibration data from, for example, one or more NMRs. Received signal level measurements reported by a mobile device for which a location estimate is to be determined may be compared with the data associated with the various grid points to estimate the location of the mobile device.
