  • Patent number: 7613189
Abstract: A network switch includes a matching device that employs a first data structure to select one of N address groups including a first partial address of an IP packet. An action table selects one of a next hop location corresponding to a longest prefix match and a first matching operation for the IP packet based on the selected one of the N groups. When the first matching operation is selected, the matching device employs a second data structure to select one of M address groups including a second partial address of the IP packet. The action table selects one of a next hop location corresponding to a longest prefix match and a second matching operation for the IP packet based on the selected one of the M groups. A routing engine routes the IP packet based on the first and second next hop locations.

  • Patent number: 7609646
Abstract: A system in a Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) network eliminates false voice detection in voice band data service (e.g., modem or facsimile transmission) by sequentially enabling silence detection then voice detection. In Voice Band Data (VBD) mode, the system initially enables silence detection and disables voice detection. If silence is detected in a VOIP signal associated with a VOIP call, the system enables voice detection. If voice is detected, the system switches from VBD mode to voice mode and enables processing (e.g., echo cancellation and/or data compression) that improves voice communications.

  • Patent number: 7573828
Abstract: A fault isolation system and method. A hierarchical numbering system is applied to devices within a cable network. Each subscriber is associated with a “last active device” or “LAD” providing service to that subscriber. The numbering system provides “genealogical” information about the subscriber's LAD so that the LAD can be located within the network. By correlating trouble reports from subscribers, a fault in an active device can be isolated to a particular segment of a cascade if not a particular active device. The number system comprises a continuously concatenated string that provides a relative location of each active device with a cable network.

  • Patent number: 7564786
Abstract: A method to manage nodes in a ZigBee network. In a ZigBee network including a plurality of nodes, a multicast group is generated including at least two nodes among the plurality of the nodes. A multicast group coordinator (GC) which manages the multicast group is set among the nodes forming the multicast group. The multicast group includes the GC, a multicast group member (GM) requesting to join the multicast group, and/or a multicast router (MR) which links GMs to each other or links the GC and the GC. Accordingly, since the GC manages the multicast group, the load is decreased and the packet data transmission rate is enhanced.

  • Patent number: 7539215
Abstract: A subscriber in a communication system (102) for transmitting and receiving data telegrams, wherein a data telegram includes reference data or user data and an identifier. The control of transmitting and receiving data telegrams is based on check data sets (122). A check data set includes an address for the reference data or user data and the identifier of the data telegram, which is assigned to the check data set. A transmission list (120) includes a first number of check data sets. A circuit unit (128) generates, based on a check data set of the transmission list, a data telegram to be transmitted. In addition, a second number (136, 138) of check data sets is provided. An assignment unit (140, 144) assigns a received data telegram to one of the check data sets of the second number of check data sets, wherein the assignment is carried out based on the identifier for the received data telegram.

  • Patent number: 7515552
Abstract: Logical addresses are assigned to nodes in a wireless network from an address space defined as an n-dimensional grid, where intersections have coordinates of the nodes. A component of the coordinates is selected to be associated with a predetermined value. A parent node assigns an unallocated logical address to a child node joining the network such that any component of the child node address is modified, by one, from a corresponding component of the parent node if the selected component of the parent node has the predetermined value. Otherwise, the unallocated logical address is assigned such that the selected component of the child node address is modified by one from the selected component of the parent node.

  • Patent number: 7502371
Abstract: A method distributes connection admission control. Traffic flows are distributed locally at network nodes based on determined path weights and dynamic link costs. A traffic source node is sent a back-off signal if a distributing node becomes congested. A received request to admit a new traffic flow to the communications network is admitted if the node receiving the request has not received a back-off signal, and is rejected if the node receiving the request has received a back-off signal and fails to redistribute its traffic flows. Distributed connection admission control is allowed in which only local events need to be monitored to decide whether to admit a new traffic flow or not.

  • Patent number: 7496071
Abstract: Since, in Mobile IP, the correspondence of one Mobile Node home address and a care-of address is assumed to be one to one, it is not possible to associate multiple care-of addresses with one home addresses, select an appropriate care-of address from among these and dynamically modify the forwarding destination. In the invention, the binding update sent by the Mobile Node to the Home Agent is extended in order to make it possible to also report the application ID at the same time. The Home Agent selects an appropriate care-of address, based on the application ID.

  • Patent number: 7489628
Abstract: Systems and methods of monitoring a communication traffic transfer rate control mechanism are provided. The traffic transfer rate control mechanism may control a rate of transfer of communication traffic from a first communication traffic management device to a second communication traffic management device, for example. A communication traffic storage history, which is indicative of an effect of the transfer rate control mechanism, is compiled by determining amounts of communication traffic stored in at least one communication traffic queue of at least one of the communication traffic management devices, at each of a number of monitor times. An indication of the determined amounts of communication traffic is provided, and may be analyzed to determine whether the transfer rate control mechanism actually achieves a desired effect. The transfer rate control mechanism or control parameters thereof may then be adjusted if the desired effect is not currently being achieved.
