Abstract: A generator set assembly in which an engine is mounted upon a base by way of a specialized mounting component, and a related method of mounting an engine upon a base using such a specialized mounting component, are disclosed. The specialized mounting component includes a first rigid portion capable of being fixedly coupled to the engine, a second rigid portion capable of being fixedly coupled to the base, a flexible intermediate portion coupled between the first and second rigid portions that allows relative movement of the first and second rigid portions to occur in response to expansion and contraction of the engine during operation of the engine, and a further component extending between the first and second rigid portions through the flexible intermediate portion. The further component is capable of limiting relative movement of the first and second rigid portions.

  • Patent number: 7082919
Abstract: A mounting structure for an engine cover includes: a protruded member which has a neck and a head with a larger diameter than the neck; and a recessed member which has an external circumferential surface small diameter section to be locked to a mounting hole of a mounting seat arranged so as to be opposed to the protruded member, and a concave holding the head of the press-fit protruded member. In the protruded member, at least a portion surrounding the concave is formed solid. The head is arranged closer to a rear surface of the engine cover than the mounting hole. A compression space, which is compressed in the case in which a collision load equal to or larger than a predetermined value is applied in a front and rear direction of the engine cover, is defined between the recessed member and the rear surface of the engine cover.

  • Patent number: 7082933
Abstract: This invention is a fuel valve used with a nitrous oxide delivery system to control supplemental fuel flow to an engine. This valve is typically a normally closed valve which is opened by application of nitrous oxide under pressure when the nitrous oxide delivery system is activated. This application of nitrous oxide pressure applies an internal force to a piston means whereby the valve is opened and supplemental fuel flows to the engine. Upon de-activation of the nitrous oxide system and subsequent decrease of nitrous oxide pressure, the valve closes and supplemental fuel flow to the engine ceases. This valve is smaller and less costly than electrical solenoid valves presently in common use.

  • Patent number: 7073474
Abstract: An apparatus and method for constructing a flywheel assembly is disclosed. The flywheel assembly includes a flywheel hub that is constructed to engage a crankshaft of an internal combustion engine. A ferrous ring is attached to the flywheel hub with an elastomer ring positioned therebetween. The elastomer ring isolates the ferrous ring from the flywheel hub such that the ferrous ring resonates at a frequency that substantially reduces the amplitude of the resonance of the crankshaft and flywheel. Such a construction effectively dampens the torsional resonance of the engine and provides for smoother operation.

  • Patent number: 7073490
Abstract: In a gas-supply system for internal-combustion engines, a pressure-reducing valve is set between the reservoir of the gas and a distribution manifold or rail that feeds the gas to a series of electromagnetically controlled injectors associated to the various cylinders of the engine. The pressure-reducing valve has a piston member that faces a chamber set downstream of a restricted passage defined inside the body of the valve in communication between the inlet connector and the outlet connector. The piston member is pushed by thrust means towards a position in which it causes opening of an open/close element (valve head) that controls the communication between said restricted passage and the inlet connector. The piston member is preferably provided with a single seal gasket that prevents leakage of gas towards the outside through the sliding coupling of the piston member within the respective guide bushing.

  • Patent number: 7069884
Abstract: An internal combustion engine is provided in which an exhaust port communicating with a combustion chamber formed in a cylinder head is formed from independent exhaust ports, which are positioned on the upstream side, and a grouped exhaust port, in which the plurality of independent exhaust ports are combined. Water supplied from a supply pump passes through a water passage of the grouped exhaust port and a water passage of the independent exhaust ports while cooling the exhaust port, and a valve seat and valve guide on the periphery of the exhaust port, which have high temperatures, thus heating the water itself and thereby recovering waste heat of the internal combustion engine. The heated water carries out heat exchange with exhaust gas in an evaporator provided in an exhaust passage and turns into high temperature, high pressure steam, which drives an expander of a Rankine cycle system.

  • Patent number: 7069880
Abstract: A heater diverter valve (20) is provided in an engine cooling system having a radiator and a circulating pump, The valve has a first inlet (31) connected to a heater so that coolant flowing through the engine and then through the heater is returned to the pump return line through the valve via the first inlet and an outlet (33). A second inlet (32) is connected to engine and transmission oil coolers so that coolant which flows from the engine supply line through the coolers is returned to the pump return line via the second inlet and the outlet. The valve includes a shuttle (24) which at lower coolant temperatures closes off the second inlet (32) to prevent coolant flow. The second inlet (32) is opened at higher temperatures when a wax type thermal actuator pushes the shuttle towards the first inlet (31).
