Abstract: A system for service control and operations for a telecommunications network. In particular, an architecture and method for a service control and operations element system. The system communicates with a plurality of interconnected telecommunications network elements via a switching and signaling subsystem. The system provides and controls the various functions of the telecommunications network, such as call processing and routing, automatic fault detection and correction, providing services to customers in an interactive manner, fraud detection and control, identification of patterns of abuse of the network, collecting data regarding call activity at each network element, and producing a record of each call placed within the network.

Abstract: A communications system offering telephone number portability services, where a subscriber of a ported telephone number is able to maintain existing voice mail services from an existing end office switching system, independent of the new end office switching system serving the ported telephone number. The end office switching system accessing the voice mail system includes ported number forwarding logic. Using this logic, that office sends a signaling message via a common channel interoffice signaling network. A calling party field of the message specifies the ported telephone number (i.e., the actual called number), instead of the actual calling party number. The end office switching system serving the voice mail system, also referred to as the accessed end office switching system, receives the signaling message, extracts the ported telephone number from the calling party field, and forwards the ported telephone number information to the voice mail system.

Abstract: A cradle 13 for a handset for a telephone or other electronic apparatus is dimensioned to fit within a chair arm, for example an aircraft seat arm. The cradle includes an integral cord spool 16 having a rewind bias spring 34, and a catch (not shown) for maintaining the handset in the cradle. The cord is locked in an extended condition by a braking cam 53, releasable for rewinding the cord by a pushbutton 36. Latching means 54 are provided for maintaining the pushbutton depressed until the cord is rewound. Other brake and latching means, including a ratchet and pawl arrangement, are disclosed.

Abstract: A portable communication device has an apparatus housing with a movable element attached thereto and a sensor for detecting a position of the movable element in relation to the apparatus housing. The communication device also has an electrodynamic device having a magnet. The sensor is arranged to detect the magnetic field originating from the magnet in the electrodynamic device and to provide an output which is relative to the apparatus housing. A device is provided, in the movable element, for conducting the magnetic field from the electrodynamic device to the sensor.

Abstract: A screening and monitoring capability for switch based voice messaging systems that allows a called party to hear the caller and the caller's voice as the caller leaves a message and break in to start a normal telephone discussion if the caller or the caller's subject warrants such action. The method and apparatus of this invention provide for an advanced intelligent network service feature that controls the bridging of the connections to the voice mail and the called party's telephone station. The service feature turns the voice mail off and tears down the connection if the monitoring called party speaks.

Abstract: A telephone service pre-order entry system, and method of operation thereof, for provisioning of telephone service. The pre-ordering functions of address validation, long distance PIC assignment, telephone number assignment, customer service records transfer, features selection, facility information determination and installation date selection are performed in an integrated and automated manner. In order to perform telephone service provisioning pre-order entry, customer information including an address is received. An address validation screen, including a field requesting an address, is displayed. The customer information, including the address, is entered into the address validation screen and the address is validated. A list of available long distance primary interexchange carriers is displayed and a carrier is selected from the list.

Abstract: A modular jack for telephone and data equipment test access ports including a cover having substantially the same thermal coefficient of expansion as its housing, and which is integral with the housing to prevent its being lost during usage or testing. The cover extends inwardly of the housing, to rotate further inwardly, automatically, upon the insertion of the plug into the housing to complete the electrical circuit.

Abstract: Disclosed is a network number management system constructed so as not to reduce the number of subscriber telephone numbers registrable in a switch even if any number of network numbers are registered in this switch. One local switch is registered with a telephone number of a specified terminal which consists of a telephone exchange number set to this switch itself and arbitrary numerals, and has a telephone number management table for registering information for indicating whether or not the specified terminal exists in an area within a coverage of this switch itself. When receiving a call setting request in which the telephone number of the specified terminal serves as a connection request telephone number, the telephone number management table is retrieved, and, if registered with information for indicating non-existence of the specified terminal, the call setting request is transferred towards a service control point (SCP).
