Patent number: 7660017Abstract: An image processor for converts input grayscale values into output grayscale values having two or more grayscales by dividing an input image into pixel groups each including pixels and applying a dither matrix to each pixel group a center of gravity position of the pixel group from the input grayscale value of each pixel included in the pixel group; the center of the dither matrix on the center of gravity position of the pixel group; and output the output grayscale values by corresponding the positioned dither matrix and the input grayscale value of each pixel included in the pixel group. By this, the center of the dither matrix is positioned on the center of gravity position of the pixel group. So dots are generated at the most appropriate positions to reproduce an input image faithfully.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 2006Date of Patent: February 9, 2010Assignee: Seiko Epson CorporationInventor: Nobuhiro Karito

Patent number: 7649658Abstract: A method of reconstructing an original image from a printed and scanned image includes determining a plurality of transformation parameters including a rotation a of the scanning grid relative to the printing grid and a plurality of translation parameters which give a position of a node on the printing grid in a coordinate system of the scanning grid, generating a system of non-linear equations which represent the printed and scanned image as a function of: (i) the original image, (ii) a print/scan resolution ratio, and (iii) the transformation parameters, computing coefficients for the system using the resolution ratio, the transformation parameters and the given print model, generating a linear approximation of the system of non-linear equations, solving the linear approximation for an approximation of the original image, and creating a reconstructed original image from the approximation of the original image.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 2006Date of Patent: January 19, 2010Assignee: Pitney Bowes Inc.Inventors: Robert A. Patent number: 7647608Abstract: A digital broadcast signal for use in a digital television receiver includes a rating region table carrying rating information for multiple geographical regions, and a master guide table carrying information related to the rating region table. The master guide table includes a version number field defining a version number of the rating region table and at least one effective time field defining an effective time of the version number. The effective time represents a time after which a use of the rating region table is permitted. For example, it may be represented by a number of global positioning system (GPS) seconds since a coordinated universal time (UTC). The effective time field is included in a descriptor within the master guide table.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 2006Date of Patent: January 12, 2010Assignee: LG Electronics Inc.Inventors: So Young Kim, Kyung Mee Lee

Patent number: 7639410Abstract: The exemplary embodiment disclosed herein comprises several aspects of defining and using optimal color test patches for calibrating a printing system for various purposes (e.g., multi-media, gamut extension, drifting correction, etc.). One aspect is the creation and use of color patches where the color patches are selected optimally to result in minimum mean square error when those color patches are used to determine weights of a limited number of basis vectors that model the system (e.g., model the print engine response). A joint optimization technique is given as a method to select the optimal color test patches for calibration.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 2006Date of Patent: December 29, 2009Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Yao Rong Wang, Lalit Keshav Mestha, Zhigang Fan, Alvaro Enrique Gil

Patent number: 7626738Abstract: An image forming apparatus is capable of minimizing the deterioration of image quality by suspending a calibrating process in a predetermined case while improving user convenience. While in the suspended state, when a predetermined condition is satisfied, the multifunction machine can force the calibrating process in the print job, and when the predetermined condition is not satisfied, the calibrating process is not forced in the print job.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 2006Date of Patent: December 1, 2009Assignee: Brother Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Akihiro Yamada

Patent number: 7599090Abstract: A microarray image is segmented into discreet segments for respective spots in the microarray image based on locating microarray image rows and columns by maximizing scores associated with vertical and horizontal image projections. To determine the locations of the rows and columns that extend through artifacts that involve multiple spots and/or multiple columns and rows, the scores may also include contributions from the gaps between adjacent rows and columns. The scores are calculated by stepping windows containing nominally spaced spot-sized row or column boundaries, over the horizontal projection curves. At each step a total row or column score is calculated that represents the areas of the projection curves that fall within the row boundaries. The system then selects the window positions that correspond to the maximum total row score and total column score, and uses the locations of the boundaries as the locations of row and column “stripes” that are sized to the spot diameters.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 2005Date of Patent: October 6, 2009Assignee: PerkinElmer Health Sciences, Inc.Inventors: Xingyuan Li, Jay S.
