  • Patent number: 8768357
Abstract: In a communication system in which a mobile station accessing the main network via a plurality of base stations, the mobile station can freely select any of the base stations as a forward link (FL) serving station. In addition, the mobile station can also freely select another or the same base station as a reverse link (RL) serving station. The mobile station has stored in its memory a plurality of routes corresponding to the plurality of base stations, with each route dedicatedly assigned to a particular base station. During handoff of one base station to another as either the FL or the RL serving station, exchanged data packets are processed in the respective routes of the base stations involved.

  • Patent number: 8761799
Abstract: The disclosed subject matter provides for employing timed fingerprint location information in location analytics. Timed fingerprint location information can provide a location for a user equipment. The location of the user equipment can be compared to a location analytics rule related to the location of a user equipment. Where the location satisfies a condition of the location analytics rule, the user equipment can be associated with a compliance status. Compliance, or noncompliance, can initiate further action. Further action can include reporting the compliance status, verifying the identity of a user associated with the user equipment, enforcing the location analytics rule, etc. Enforcing the location analytics rule can include alerts, fines, reporting to an authority figure or agency, etc.

  • Patent number: 8712365
Abstract: The invention relates to a system that makes use of a mobile telephone (22) to which a user authorized to open a lock (28) has access. According to the invention, a remote management site (10) includes a database (12) of authorized users identified by the mobile telephone number thereof, as well as a data credential generator (14). The credentials are crypto acoustic credentials (CAC) in the form of single-use audio signals and are generated from digital data credentials (DDC) that are normally employed by the lock when the latter is used with a badge or a card. The system includes means (16, 18, 20) for securely transmitting the acoustic credentials to the user's telephone. The lock (22) picks up the acoustic credentials reproduced by the telephone pre-positioned near the lock and extracts the digital data credentials from the picked-up crypto acoustic credentials and, subsequently, the lock applies the thus-extracted digital data credentials to the analysis, authentication and control means of the lock.

  • Patent number: 8694049
Abstract: This disclosure describes a distributed reader architecture for a mobile computing device such as cellular telephone handset. This architecture includes a reader library that reads device capabilities and business model parameters in the device, and in response, for selects an appropriate configuration of reader modules for identifying a content item. The reader modules each perform a function used in identifying a content item. The modules are selected so that the resources available on the device and in remote devices are used optimally, depending on available computing resources on the device and network bandwidth. One example of a reader module is a fast watermark detection module that quickly detects the presence of a watermark, enabling resources to be focused on portions of content that are most likely going to lead to successful content identification.

  • Patent number: 8694025
Abstract: A method and system arc disclosed for determining the geographic location of a user communicating on a communications network such as the Internet. In one embodiment, a provider of a product or service: (a) receives the user's phone number (or other identification for contacting the user's station), and (b) supplies the user's station with a distinctive identifier. The provider then supplies a location determining service with the user's phone number (or other identification). A phone call is made to the phone number by the location determining service for retrieving the distinctive identifier from the network station having the phone number. If the distinctive identifier is retrieved and the location determining service determines that the user's station is within an appropriate geographical area (or not within an inappropriate area), then the provider can provide the requested product or service to the user.

  • Patent number: 8676209
Abstract: Techniques for selecting serving sectors and performing handoff for a terminal on the forward and reverse links are described. The terminal may obtain pilot measurements for pilots transmitted on the forward link and may update an active set based on the pilot measurements. The terminal may send a transmission (e.g., for pilot, signaling, etc.) on the reverse link and may receive channel quality information indicative of reverse link channel quality for the terminal at multiple sectors in the active set. The transmission may include pilot, and the channel quality information from each sector may include a pilot carrier-over-thermal ratio (pCoT) determined by that sector based on the pilot. The terminal may select a serving sector based on the channel quality information, interference information, and/or other information and may send a request for handoff (e.g., via a signaling message an/or an access probe) to the selected serving sector.

  • Patent number: 8676246
Abstract: A position information obtaining section 102 obtains position information indicating the current position of an information communication terminal 100. A safety area storing section 103 stores in advance a safety area considered as being safe because the security risk such as information leak is low. A safety determination section 104 determines, based on the position information and the safety area, the security risk of wireless communication performed by the information communication terminal 100 at the current position. The communication control section 105 controls a wireless communication section 106 so as to transmit a radio signal at a larger radio wave intensity when the safety determination section 104 has determined that the risk is low, and to transmit a radio signal at a smaller radio wave intensity when the safety determination section 104 has determined that the risk is high.
