  • Patent number: 10960162
Abstract: A device and method for controlling a level of ventilatory assist applied to a patient by a mechanical ventilator measures, during patient's assisted breath, an inspiratory volume Vassist produced by both the patient and the mechanical ventilator, an inspiratory volume Vvent contributed by the mechanical ventilator, and an inspiratory assist pressure Pvent produced by the mechanical ventilator. A first relation between pressure Pvent and volume Vassist and a second relation between pressure Pvent and volume Vvent are calculated. Using the first and second relations, a ratio is determined between pressure Pvent at volume Vvent and pressure Pvent at volume Vassist, with volume Vvent equal to volume Vassist, for a plurality of volumes Vvent and Vassist. Values of Pvent are multiplied by the corresponding calculated ratios to calculate a third relation between a predicted inspiratory pressure Ppred and volume Vassist.

  • Patent number: 10898671
Abstract: A method controls an expiratory gas flow at a user interface (16) of a ventilator (1) wherein the user interface (16) has an exhalation valve (11), which provides a positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP). The method includes the following steps during a phase of exhalation: changing the positive end-expiratory pressure from a basic PEEP value (31) with the exhalation valve (11); returning the positive end-expiratory pressure to the basic PEEP value (31) with the exhalation valve (11); and determining an exhalation parameter. The method permits an adaptive change in the expiratory flow during the exhalation. Air trapping can be avoided, and it is possible to respond to changed exhalation parameters within one and the same phase of exhalation.

  • Patent number: 10765821
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are described for use with a vaporizer that vaporizes at least one active ingredient of a material. In response to receiving a first input to the vaporizer, the material is heated, in a first heating step. An indication of the temperature of the material is detected, and, in response to detecting an indication that the temperature of the material is at a first temperature, the first heating step is terminated, by withholding causing further temperature increase of the material. The first temperature is less than 95 percent of the vaporization temperature of the active ingredient. Subsequently, a second input is received at the vaporizer. In response thereto, the material is heated to the vaporization temperature, in a second heating step. Other applications are also described.
