Abstract: The present invention provides for a clear coating composition most suitable for use as a top clear coat in multi-layered OEM or refinish automotive coatings. The coating composition includes isocyanate and melamine components. The isocyanate component includes an aliphatic polyisocyanate. The composition may be formulated as a two-pack or one-pack coating composition, wherein the isocyanate functionalities are blocked with a blocker such as a mono-alcohol.

Abstract: A catalyzed reactive hot melt adhesive, a method for improving the cure rate and a method for making thereof. The adhesive includes the reaction product of a reactive polyurethane adhesive and a catalytically effective amount of at least one amine catalyst with at least one active hydrogen.
Abstract: A crosslinking agent is provided which is an ungelled reaction product of (a) an aminoplast resin and (b) a compound having active hydrogen groups reactive with the aminoplast resin (a) such that the crosslinking agent is essentially free of functional groups reactive with aminoplast resin and has a glass transition temperature of at least 10° C. Also provided is a method for preparing the crosslinking agent. Further provided is a curable powder coating composition including (A) a polymer having a glass transition temperature of at least 30° C. containing reactive functional groups and (B) the previously described crosslinking agent. Additionally provided is a multilayer composite coating composition including a base coat deposited from a film-forming composition and a top coat over the base coat deposited from the previously described powder coating composition. Coated substrates are also provided.

According to the present invention, there is provided a polyester resin composition comprising (a) an amorphous polyethylene terephthalate resin and (b) a polyester ether resin in admixture at a weight ratio of 97/3 to 50/50, wherein the polyester ether resin (b) is prepared by copolycondensation of (b1) dicarboxylic acid and/or ester derivative thereof consisting mainly of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and/or ester derivative thereof, and (b2) diols consisting mainly of a C2-C6 alkylene glycol and a poly(C2-C4 alkylene oxide) glycol, and segments derived from the poly(C2-C4 alkylene oxide) glycol constitute 1 to 30% by weight of the polyester ether resin (b), and the polyester ether resin (b) has a peak temperature of tan &dgr; of 20 to 60° C.

Abstract: A low tack, low VOC gel coat is disclosed comprising a unsaturated polyester resin derived from maleic anhydride and up to about 30% of an organic solvent. Abstract: A capped poly(phenylene ether) resin composition is formed from (1) a poly(phenylene ether) compound (PPE) in which at least a portion, preferably substantially all of the hydroxyl groups have been reacted with a compound containing ethylenic unsaturation (carbon-carbon double bonds) which is further reactive with unsaturated monomers (reactively endcapped PPE) and (2) a curable unsaturated monomer composition. Abstract: A liquid crystalline polyesters or poly(ester-amides) having improved melt viscosity, is made by reacting the polymer with limited amounts of a compound containing specified functionality, such as hydroxyl, carboxyl, or amine. The process may be carried out in a typical polymer melt mixing apparatus such as an extruder. The low viscosity polymer product of the claimed invention has surprising toughness and is particularly useful for encapsulation of electronic components.
