Abstract: A varifocal block includes liquid crystal (LC) lens and a liquid lens structure in optical series. The LC lens has a plurality of optical states, including an additive state that adds optical power to the LC lens and a subtractive state that removes optical power from the LC lens. The liquid lens structure comprises a transparent substrate layer, a deformable membrane, and a volume of liquid enclosed between the transparent substrate layer and the deformable membrane. The deformable membrane has an adjustable range of optical power dependent on an adjustable curvature of the deformable membrane. The plurality of optical states of the LC lens and the adjustable range of optical power of the liquid lens structure together provide a continuous range of optical power for the varifocal block.

Abstract: A display device that is suitable for increasing in size is provided. A display device with high resolution is provided. The display device has a structure in which two adjacent gate lines are supplied with the same selection signal. In addition, two pixels adjacent in the column direction are connected to respective source lines. Furthermore, one of the two source lines overlaps with a conductive layer functioning as a pixel electrode. Moreover, part of a semiconductor layer of a transistor is provided between the two source lines.

Abstract: A three-dimensional display device prevents a barrier wire breakage failure and includes a parallax barrier panel resistant to static electricity. The 3D display device has a liquid crystal parallax barrier panel disposed over a display panel. The parallax barrier panel has a first substrate having an electrode formed flat thereon and a second substrate having a display area, the first substrate and the second substrate having liquid crystal sandwiched therebetween. Abstract: A Pancharatnam Berry Phase (PBP) color corrected structure is presented that comprises a plurality of switchable gratings and a plurality of PBP active elements. Each switchable grating has an inactive mode when reflects light of a specific color channel, of a set of color channels, and transmits light of other color channels in the set of color channels, wherein the specific color channel is different for each of the plurality of switchable gratings, and to have an active mode to transmit light that is inclusive of the set of color channels. The PBP active elements receive light output from at least one of the plurality of switchable gratings. Each of the PBP active elements is configured to adjust light of a different color channel of the set of color channels by a same amount to output light corrected for chromatic aberration for the set of color channels.

Abstract: A parallax barrier panel including a first substrate having a flat electrode, and a second substrate, the liquid crystal sandwiched therebetween. The second substrate has first barrier electrodes extending in a first direction and arrayed at a first pitch in a second direction, and has second barrier electrodes, the first and the second harrier electrodes having an interlayer insulating film interposed therebetween.
