    Abstract: A two-directional percussion implement selectively adaptable both for driving in and for extracting, e.g. piles, from the ground, includes two coaxial electromagnetic coils whose movable armatures are represented by extremities of a reciprocable ram. Opposite anvils, one of which is adapted to be coupled with a driven element, are interlinked by a non-magnetic shaft traversing the ram. When the implement is intended for drilling operations, a rotary drive imparts rotation to one of the anvils via a connection permitting independent rotation and reciprocation. The shaft in this case has a central channel for taking samples or for conducting drilling fluids. When adapted only for axial percussions, the implement is vertically suspended on a cable via a shock absorber.

    Abstract: In an electric drive for a DC shunt propulsion motor which is supplied from a battery, the armature winding is connected to the battery, and the field winding is connected to the battery via an electronic DC control element. The electronic DC control element is associated with the field winding and also serves as a control element for charging the battery. The DC control element is further equipped with a voltage control device in addition to a current control device. A multiposition switch is arranged so that when the switch is in one position the field winding is connected via the electronic DC control element to the battery, and when the switch is in another position, the electronic DC control element is shunted across the battery.

    Abstract: An elevator system in which a count is maintained to enable a car to be leveled in the correct travel direction in the event the car stops outside the landing zone of a target floor. The count is incremented each time the advanced car position changes floors, and it is decremented each time the car is level with a floor during the run. If the car lands outside the landing zone, a zero count indicates the car overshot the floor, while a non-zero count indicates undershoot. The count, along with the travel direction of the run, which is stored in memory, thus determines the leveling direction to level the car with the target floor.

    Abstract: An elevator system having a plurality of elevator cars and supervisory control for directing their movement in a building to efficiently serve the floors therein. The supervisory control divides the floors and service directions therefrom, called scan slots, into sets, with a set being those scan slots served by the same combination of cars. The scan slots are assigned to the elevator cars using a predetermined strategy, with the sets being taken in a predetermined order determined by the number of cars enabled to serve the sets. The strategy breaks out of the rigid set concept when assigning scan slots to cars based upon car calls, to effect a significant improvement in elevator service.

    Abstract: A power screwdriver that is equipped with a spring coupling between the motor drive and the tool spindle, a signal that indicates that a certain value of torque has been overstepped, at which the screwdriver must be sopped, first causes reversal of the motor, but before the motor appreciably turns in the reverse direction, powers shut-off, allowing the motor to coast. After another brief interval, power is reapplied to the motor in the original direction, again briefly. In this way it is possible for the final shut-off to occur when the motor is stopped and the spring is unstressed, avoiding oscillations of the motor-spring system. A triac bridge circuit makes possible quick reversals and brief applications of power. In such a bridge circuit, precautions must be taken to be sure one pair of triacs is extinguished before the other pair is ignited.

    Abstract: An inertial measuring unit gyroscope wheel dynamic braking and sequence inhibiting circuit is disclosed. The circuit comprises a first counter for counting a specified time interval and digital logic circuitry for applying an in-phase signal to the phases of a multiphase electric induction motor driving a gyroscope wheel during the time interval, for example, a vertical gyroscope motor wheel. By placing in-phase signals on the inputs of a multiphase electric induction motor, the motor is brought completely to rest in a short time by dynamic braking. In a preferred embodiment, a second counter counts a second specified time interval after the first time interval has terminated, during which second time interval a second electric induction motor is dynamically braked, for example, an azimuth gyroscope wheel motor. During the time period when the motors are braking, a signal is fed back to an automatic sequencing circuit to inhibit further sequencing of the inertial measuring unit.
