  • Patent number: 5018272
Abstract: A method for producing a tubular-shaped wire mesh which serves as cladding for catalytically coated cylindrical one-piece ceramics units used to decontaminate exhausts of internal combustion engines. These units function as catalysts and have a wire mesh wrapped along a circumference and around the surface of an arbor of the unit. The wrapping is such that the mesh is axially longer than the distance between two end faces of the units. The mesh has a section projecting axially beyond each end face of the unit. The wire mesh is secured to the surface of the arbor in an area which is directly adjacent to the projecting section. The projecting section is compressed into a bead to a predetermined axial extent.

  • Patent number: 4982484
Abstract: The apparatus typically includes a ring compressing assembly for compressing the ring from the exterior and mandrel means disposed in the compressing means and around which the ring is compressed to assembly size. The mandrel means includes a lug-retaining groove means into which retainer ring lugs having special flats are compressed and retained interiorly of the ring to hold the ring at reduced assembly size. The ring compressing assembly is carried on a first slide for movement between a ring load position and a ring assembly position. A ring pusher mechanism is carried on a second slide that is operably connected to the first slide for movement in unison therewith as the ring compressing assembly is moved between the ring load position and the assembly position.

  • Patent number: 4943253
Abstract: A fastener-receiving member is disclosed that can be used with either a blind hole or a hollow wall. In addition, the length of the fastener-receiving member can be adjusted to be accommodated within various thicknesses of walls. The nut portion of the fastener-receiving member is configured so that it has ridges at its outer periphery that will engage with the surface of a hole regardless of the quality of the drilled hole. A wing-like locking section will expand to insure an adequate grip between the wall and the member. In addition, an insertion tool is disclosed that aids an operator in inserting the fastener-receiving member into a hole.

  • Patent number: 4937927
Abstract: A cast iron sleeve liner for an internal combustion engine cylinder, or other reciprocating piston apparatus, is provided with external screw threads on its outer diameter along substantially its entire length. The screw threads engage complementary internal screw threads that are formed in a cylinder opening. One end of the sleeve abuts against a shoulder in the cylinder as the sleeve is threaded into the cylinder to force the cooperating threads into contact to take up the backlash, or clearance, between the threads. The clearance between the threads may be filled with a sealant. The sleeve can be produced wholly apart from the cylinder by first forming a raw cylindrical casting, then forming the exterior screw threads, and then machining the cylinder bore in the sleeve while the sleeve is held in a fixture which simulates the cylinder opening.

  • Patent number: 4934035
Abstract: Method and machine for producing friction bearing shells from ribbon-shaped composite laminate material, wherein the composite laminate material is fed and processed in successive stages at a multiplicity of successive stations until the shells are finished, except for the slide surface processing. The continuous processing includes chip-generating operations arranged to considerably improve the precision and quality of the friction bearing shells that are produced. The ribbon is blanked to produce individual plates which are disposed transverse to the transport direction, making it possible to work on each individual plate without reaction upon other plates. Scrap and chips are removed, preferably at spacing areas. The shells leaving the continuous production line are finished, except for any processing of the slide surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4928376
Abstract: A method for oil filling an internal pressure sensor cavity (20) is disclosed which minimizes manufacturing process time and insures totally and properly filling the internal cavity with oil. A predetermined amount of oil (23) is added to a pressure sensor external cavity (21) connected through an opening (22) to an internal sensor cavity (20) having a sensing element (17) therein. A vacuum is drawn while the oil is in the external cavity thus providing at least a partial vacuum in at least the internal cavity. • Patent number: 4908925
Abstract: A heavy duty automotive wheel hub puller includes a plurality of support legs extended from a support bracket. These legs connect to the wheel hub lugs and the support bracket passes over the wheel hub. A pressure screw threaded through the support bracket is directed against the axle housing at the center of the wheel hub. Turning the screw into the axle housing exerts a force which causes the hub to drift off the axle housing. The support legs provide axes of rotation for the leg bases which engage the wheel hub lugs and the legs are selectively positionable longitudinally along the support bracket. A wide variety of hub configurations and diameters are accommodated by the subject invention. Attachment to two, or with an adapter to three lugs, is available as suits the wheel hub to be serviced.

  • Patent number: 4905359
Abstract: In the formation of finished slide surfaces for slide rails on a track for an electromagnetically levitated vehicle, the track is constructed as a girder-like beam with the slide rails located on cantilevered parts of the upper surface of the beam. The beam can be formed of prestressed concrete. Initially the slide rails are provided with a height oversize. The height oversize part of the slide rails is removed and the slide surface of the rails are finished to the desired degree. The height oversize part is removed by cutting and grinding devices mounted on a machine frame movable over the upper surface of the track. The machine frame is adjustable in the vertical direction from a datum plane formed by the lower surfaces of support stators secured to the undersides of the cantilevered parts of the track. The machine frame rides on the upper surface of the beam and is in contact with the lower surfaces of the support stators.
