Patent number: 3998986Abstract: Mechanical goods made of rubber-like material, such as belts, hose, and the like, are reinforced with stitch-bonded web fabric. This invention relates to mechanical goods made of rubber-like material reinforced with a stitch-bonded web fabric.Mechanical rubber goods such as conveyor belts, hose, power transmission belts including V-belts and timing belts, snowmobile tracks, and the like, require reinforcement to achieve sufficient strength, rigidity, dimensional stability, and durability. Classically such mechanical rubber goods have been reinforced with various types of woven fabrics, mostly plain woven. More recently attempts have been made to use non-woven or scrim fabric but these generally increase the performance of one property at the expense of another. This is also true when it is attempted to use felts or spray-bonded fabric. Examples of prior disclosures of the use of non-woven fabric in rubber goods are U.S. Pat. No. 3,312,584, Charlton et al., Apr.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1975Date of Patent: December 21, 1976Assignee: Uniroyal Inc.Inventor: Leslie E. Williams

Patent number: 3993816Abstract: An assembly of hollow fibers for use in fluid treatment apparatus and apparatus incorporating such assemblies, in which a primary frame is provided with a central window defined by edges at least two of the opposite edges being thinned down to form hollows. A web of hollow fibers is placed in the hollows and is secured in place, and the fibers secured to one another, by a mass of hardened resin material in at least one of the hollows. The assemblies are mounted in a container, through which a first fluid is caused to flow, the fluid passing around the fibers and through the windows before leaving the container. The interiors of the hollow fibers are connected to the exterior of the container so that either fluid permeate flows out of the apparatus via the interiors of the fibers or a second fluid is caused to flow through the interiors of the fibers if some form of fluid exchange is desired.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 1974Date of Patent: November 23, 1976Assignee: Rhone-Poulenc S.A.Inventors: Jacques Baudet, Michel Rochet, Michel Salmon, Bernard Vogt

Patent number: 3993817Abstract: A woven structure comprising at least a continuous band around an internal axis, suitable for impregnation with resin or for internal deposition of graphite from a reactive vapor, comprises axial threads, circumferential threads, and radial threads. The device employed to produce the structure comprises principally a series of flat rings or disks, aligned and slightly spaced from each other axially, having small apertures located around their circumference or one or more helical worms, with central openings, whose successive turns are similarly provided with apertures. Radial threads are passed through homologous apertures in successive disks, or successive turns of the helical worm, and are then drawn toward the central axis by wrapping of circumferential threads around them in the axial space between adjacent disks. Axial threads are then passed between the radial threads, and are drawn by further wraps of circumferential threads.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 1974Date of Patent: November 23, 1976Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventor: Frederick E. Patent number: 3993523Abstract: Adhesive joining system for joining a plurality of superimposed material layers. An elongated needle-like member is reciprocally and rotatably driven along and about its longitudinal axis so that each reciprocation causes the needle to pass through and be withdrawn from the superimposed layers. After the needle has passed through the layers, at least the outer tip is coated with an adhesive material. The adhesive material itself may be in solid, liquid or powdered form and be either heated or unheated. After coating, withdrawal of the needle from the material layers causes the adhesive on the needle to be deposited on the material through a wiping action caused by the pressure of the material exerted against the needle. Rotation of the needle-like member gathers loose fibers from the material layers and wraps them together in the adhesive to form a reinforced joint.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1975Date of Patent: November 23, 1976Assignee: Booz Allen & Hamilton, Inc.Inventors: Guilbert M. Hunt, Hugh F. Groth, Carl E. Bochmann

Patent number: 3987226Abstract: A face plate suitable for use with an acoustical-optical image tube is disclosed and its method of manufacture. A fused glass capillary array which constitutes a disk having a large number of smooth parallel passages or pores therethrough is metalized, preferably by an electroless plating process, whereby the inside surfaces of all the pores are coated. The resulting layer of gold, silver or platinum may then be increased, if desired, by further plating, after which the disk is cleaned, heated to approximately 470.degree. C. and the pores filled with a sealant such as silver chloride. One or both surfaces may then be lapped to provide a disk having a glass surface but with many conducting cylinders extending therethrough which then appear as rings on the surfaces.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 1974Date of Patent: October 19, 1976Assignee: The Bendix CorporationInventor: Tugrul Yasar

Patent number: 3971688Abstract: An automated process of making reinforced roof and wall sheets for trucks and trailers employs step-by-step advancement of the sheet stock and lateral infeed of the structural reinforcing members. As the reinforcing members are sequentially fed into registry with the sheet stock, two kinds of adhesive are applied to them, one being a hot melt adhesive and the other being a catalyzed room temperature curing adhesive. The hot melt adhesive sets to provide an initial bonding which allows normal handling while the room temperature curing adhesive cures in the joint ultimately to augment the hot melt and provide a high strength joint.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1974Date of Patent: July 27, 1976Assignee: Fruehauf CorporationInventor: Richard Abbott
