  • Patent number: 10288463
Abstract: A method and system for evaluating both fluid type and fluid flow downhole by applying thermal energy in a flow of the fluid, and monitoring downstream temperature over time to generate a temperature profile. The type of fluid being evaluated can be determined by comparing the measured temperature profile to profiles over time of known fluids because these profiles depend upon these fluids' thermal diffusivities and flow rates. Further, stratified flow in a deviated wellbore can be analyzed by conducting the fluid evaluation at different radial locations in the flow stream so that the presence of water, liquid hydrocarbons, and gas can be identified. The system can include a pivoting arm that selectively spans the wellbore diameter, and which includes multiple thermal sources, each with corresponding thermal sensor, that are spaced along the arm. A frame can be provided for each of the sources and sensors, which is automatically self-oriented along the direction of fluid flow like a weather vane.

  • Patent number: 10196894
Abstract: A technique facilitates analysis of hydraulic fractures. A plurality of explosive pellets is constructed for delivery into fracture or fractures of a subterranean formation. Each explosive pellet comprises an explosive material combined with an initiating member working in cooperation with a friction sensitive pyrotechnic mixture. Crushing or otherwise actuating the initiating member initiates the friction sensitive pyrotechnic mixture which, in turn, ignites the explosive material to produce explosive signals. The explosive signals may be monitored to obtain data related to the fracture or fractures.

  • Patent number: 10180344
Abstract: A machining liquid is supplied to a predetermined level when a workpiece is on a table. A volume of the workpiece is obtained from a difference between the machining liquid amount at the predetermined level when a previous workpiece is not on the table, and the machining liquid amount when the workpiece is on the table. A weight of the workpiece is obtained from the obtained volume and a previously stored density of the workpiece. A weight of a mounting jig is obtained in the same procedure. A total volume of the jig and workpiece is obtained when the jig is on the table and the workpiece is fixed to the jig. The volume of the workpiece is obtained by a difference with respect to the volume of the jig. The weight of the workpiece fixed to the jig is obtained from the obtained volume and the previously stored density.

  • Patent number: 10156200
Abstract: The abnormality diagnosis system comprises an air-fuel ratio control means which sets the target air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas to a first set air-fuel ratio set to a first side of a rich side or a lean side, then, when a downstream side output air-fuel ratio is at the first side, switches the target air-fuel ratio to a second set air-fuel ratio set to a second side at the opposite side from the first side. The abnormality diagnosis system calculates the time from when the target air-fuel ratio is switched to when the downstream side output air-fuel ratio starts to change toward the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio based on a differential value of the downstream side output air-fuel ratio and, when the calculated time is a predetermined time or more, judges that a dead time at the downstream side air-fuel ratio sensor is abnormal.

  • Patent number: 10139306
Abstract: Methods and systems for bridge damage detection using, for example, one or more strain range methods are provided. One exemplary embodiment provides a computer-implemented methods and systems for determining bridge damage from strain sensor data, for example, by collecting a batch of strain data from one or more sensor pairs. From the batch of strain data one or more sets of strain data may be extracted comprising a quasi-static response of the bridge under ambient traffic loads. A relationship may be established between the one or more sets of strain data extracted from the one or more sensor pairs by orthogonal regression. Bridge damage may be detected by generally isolating a damage indicator between the one or more sensor pairs by monitoring changes in a statistical Fshm value over time.
