  • Patent number: 9459929
Abstract: A computer implemented method of load shedding used in stream computing system that considers the relative importance of each of the applications processing the incoming input data or events. The method of load shedding method also accounts for system physical constraints, such as memories and CPU utilization. The load shedding method first observes the workload of each application and arriving rate of the incoming input data or events. If the system is under an overloading condition, calculate a input data or event drop ratio for each application such that the projected sum of all applications' workload will be at or below the system capacity when the unprocessed input data or events are dropped according to the drop ratio for each application.

  • Patent number: 9455887
Abstract: A distributed performance evaluation framework provides functionality for evaluating the availability, reliability, and scalability of a network-based service. The framework includes a control and reporting tier and a load-generating tier. The control and reporting tier provides a control interface through which a request to evaluate the performance of a service may be received. In response to receiving such a request, the control and reporting tier creates a load-generating job for use by the load-generating tier. Load-generating instances in the load-generating tier are configured to perform the load-generating job by executing instances of a load-generating plug-in configured to generate requests to the service. The load-generating instances also periodically provide data regarding the status of each load-generating job to the control and reporting tier.

  • Patent number: 9444782
Abstract: A system and method for assigning a service flow classifier to a device. A MAC address of a device is extracted from a DHCP discover message. A DHCP server constructs a key from the device MAC address and an IP address assigned by the DHCP server. The key identifies a record of attributes of the device. A configuration server uses the key to access the attribute record and to generate a boot file for the device. The boot file includes one or more service flow classifiers that determine a service flow for packets destined for the device.

  • Patent number: 9438660
Abstract: An art distribution system for distributing art to multiple display devices within an environment. The art distribution system provides a technique for specifying images to be displayed in an environment. The art distribution system provides a hierarchical representation of spaces within the environment. Each space may be further subdivided into subspaces. The art distribution system allows a user to select a space within the hierarchy and then to select an image that is to be displayed at the display devices within the selected space. The art distribution system then displays the selected image within the space including within all subspaces of the selected space. The art distribution system may allow a subsequent assignment of the image to a subspace to override within that subspace the previous selection of an image for the space.

Abstract: Various techniques for automatically administering UNIX commands to target systems are disclosed. One method involves receiving information identifying a UNIX command and additional information identifying one or more target systems. The method then issues N instances of the UNIX command in parallel to the one or more target systems, where N is an integer greater than one. The N instances of the UNIX command are issued automatically, in response to receipt of the information and the additional information. In some situations, issuing the N instances of the UNIX command in parallel involves creating N threads, where each of the N threads is configured to issue a respective one of the N instances of the UNIX command to a respective one of the target systems.

  • Patent number: 9432255
Abstract: Aspects and implementations of the present disclosure are directed to methods and systems for a network tolerant to a network device that is temporarily absent from the control plane. In one aspect, in general, the system includes an event manager configured to send, to a controller configured to exchange control messages with a network device, a first request to temporarily withdraw the network device from control plane interactions. The event manager then triggers an event at the network device during which the network device is non-responsive to control plane interactions. After determining that the event has completed, the event manager sends the controller a second request to restore the network device. The controller is configured to request, responsive to the first request, a network application to transition to a tolerant state; and to request, responsive to the second request, the network application to transition to a sensitive state.
