Patent number: 4422522Abstract: An inertial lock for the electric actuated release mechanism of a door latch, said release mechanism comprising a solenoid and plunger and said inertial lock comprising a spring biased inertial ring disposed on an extended portion of the solenoid and operably associated with spring biased locking tabs operable to lock the plunger in place during conditions which would provide forces that might undesireably actuate the release mechanism, such as certain vehicle accident conditions. This inertial lock is set within the confines of a conventional electric latch release mechanism, not requiring additional space, and features have been incorporated into the design to ease assembly of the electric actuated release mechanism and aid in the collection of flux from the solenoid.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 1982Date of Patent: December 27, 1983Assignee: Lectron Products, Inc.Inventors: Michael Slavin, Frank J. Patent number: 4412686Abstract: A folding step beneath a vehicle door has a folding mechanism comprising a shaft joined to the door and extending downwards along the extended hinge line. The shaft has a driver interacting with abutments on the step to initiate folding out and folding up of the step. The step is loaded by a snap spring mechanism which, after initial folding out with the aid of the driver, completes the folding out of the footstep so that folding out is accomplished regardless of whether the door is opened completely or partially.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 1981Date of Patent: November 1, 1983Assignee: AB VolvoInventor: Erik T. Patent number: 4411331Abstract: An automotive steering column cover has upper and lower cover members both made of a plastic material. The cover members define therein downwardly and upwardly directed recesses, respectively, and are adapted to abut each other along the edges of the recesses to form a hollow assembly which surrounds an associated steering shaft. At least the lower cover member has an integral clip extending therefrom to the steering shaft. The clip has a generally C-shaped free end defining an opening of a dimension slightly less than the diameter of the steering shaft whereby the C-shaped end of the clip can be snapped onto the steering shaft by the resiliency of the plastic material to mechanically connect the cover member to the steering shaft. The lower cover member therefore can be easily mounted on the steering shaft.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 1981Date of Patent: October 25, 1983Assignee: Nihon Plast Co., Ltd.Inventor: Hidekazu Hanada

Patent number: 4410198Abstract: A human powered vehicle of the pedal-driven type having three or more wheels, a frame and seat for supporting one or more riders in a generally supine position, and a streamlined shell enclosure with a transparent canopy which is openable for entry and egress of the rider. The preferred embodiment for a single rider has two steerable wheels located forward of the rider at approximately the widest part of the streamlined shell, and a single fixed drive wheel centrally positioned behind the rider. The drive wheel is equipped with a multi-sprocket gearing arrangement, and a large pedal-equipped sprocket wheel is mounted in a position slightly forward and above the common axis of the front wheels for ready engagement by the rider's feet. A single drive chain extends from the drive sprocket to the sprocket cluster and passes around idler rollers which direct the chain beneath the rider.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1981Date of Patent: October 18, 1983Assignee: Versatron Research CorporationInventors: Fred D. Patent number: 4410200Abstract: A ski binding having a sole plate which is mounted on a ski and including a step frame which can swivel about an axis on the front side of the sole plate. The sole plate is connected in a releasable manner to the ski so that if a skier falls, he is released from the ski. The step frame can be solidly connected to the sole plate during a downhill run but can be released to facilitate cross-country skiing. A draw spring, one end of which is connected to the under side of the sole plate, has its other end connected to a strap which passes through an opening in the upper side of the sole plate. A buckle is attached to the strap where it passes through the sole plate. When the buckle is situated on the sole plate, the step frame can swivel freely about its connection axis. On the other hand, when the buckle is located on the step frame, the spring tension tends to maintain the step frame against the sole plate.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 1981Date of Patent: October 18, 1983Inventor: Hans Napflin

Patent number: 4406340Abstract: The mechanical unit, equipped with an electric motor rotating at a high velocity, turns a wheel hub at a low velocity by means of a speed reducer and includes an external brake disk rotating at an intermediate velocity. The brake disk cooperates with conventional elements to constitute a unified external braking means which operates effectively and is easily accessible.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 1981Date of Patent: September 27, 1983Assignee: Ateliers de Constructions Electriques de Charleroi (ACEC)Inventor: Jean Gennaux

Patent number: 4405032Abstract: A wheel hub assembly includes a tubular shaped hub member and a univeral joint member connected to the hub member for rotating it about an axis of rotation. The universal joint member fits into the hub member with each having spaced apart confronting surfaces. A filler material is filled into the space between the confronting surfaces and forms a torque transmitting connection between the universal joint member and the hub member.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 1981Date of Patent: September 20, 1983Assignee: Lohr & Bromkamp GmbHInventors: Hans-Heinrich Welschof, Rudolf Beier

Patent number: 4405152Abstract: A ski binding front jaw has a cylindrical sleeve supported on a ski-fixed housing for axial movement parallel to the longitudinal axis of the ski in response to movement of ski boot engaging sole holders. An adjusting screw has an end portion rotatably and axially slidably supported in the sleeve, a threaded portion spaced from the end portion which threadedly engages an abutment, and a central portion of lesser diameter than the end portion adjacent thereto. A hollow cylinder is rotatably and axially slidably supported on the sleeve coaxial therewith by a first inner surface and has a second inner surface of greater diameter than the first surface adjacent thereto. The sleeve has a plurality of circumferentially spaced radial openings, and a spherical ball is disposed in each opening. The radial distances between the screw central portion and cylinder first surface and the screw end portion and cylinder second surface substantially equal the diameter of the balls.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 1981Date of Patent: September 20, 1983Assignee: TMC CorporationInventor: Theodor Nitschko

Patent number: 4402521Abstract: A roller skate plate is shown which includes a plate mounted against the sole of a boot and a slotted platform that receives a pair of C-shaped leaf springs within the slot. A pair of pivot posts mount within the slot to adjustably secure the C-shaped springs. Each pivot post includes a housing having a longitudinal bore which receives a helical spring or elastomeric plug to support a pivot plunger. The pivot plunger includes a spherical ball which engages a spherical socket within a pivot cap. The pivot cap passes through an aperture in the end of each C-shaped spring which functions to retain the cap and plunger within the housing. Skate axles are attached between the ends of the C-shaped leaf springs.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 1980Date of Patent: September 6, 1983Inventor: Douglas R. Mongeon

Patent number: 4398618Abstract: A controller (10) for the traction motor of an industrial truck comprises an actuator spool (56) which is axially shiftable by a manual selector member (12) for actuating a plurality of control switches (44,46,48). Detents (86,78,82,84) hold the spool in forward, reverse or park positions and a return spring (66) urges the spool toward neutral position. The actuator spool (56) is adapted for rotational movement about its axis for automatic release of the detents and return of the spool to neutral position. A seat occupancy detector (18) is actuated when the driver leaves the seat and imparts rotational movement to the spool which releases the detents and returns the spool to neutral. The controller is also adapted to provide manual and automatic control of a parking brake (6). Then the selector member is in the park position, cams (184) on the actuator spool actuates a control switch (48) to apply the vehicle brake.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 1981Date of Patent: August 16, 1983Assignee: Clark Equipment CompanyInventor: Howard C.
