Abstract: Apparatus, systems, articles of manufacture, and methods are disclosed for handling exceptions reported by media device meters. An example apparatus includes a static display detector to determine whether current measurements for a media presentation device at a time corresponding to an exception reported by a media device meter indicate the media presentation device was in a static display state at the time corresponding to the exception. The example apparatus includes a muted viewing detector to determine whether the media presentation device was in a muted viewing state at the time of the exception based on an audio level associated with the media presentation device, and an exception modifier to determine whether to modify the exception based on whether the media presentation device was in the static display state and whether the media presentation device was in a muted viewing state at the time of the exception.

Abstract: In some embodiments, a method determines an element is associated with a value in a manifest description presentation for a media presentation being played. The value indicates the element of the manifest description presentation is part of a group. The method reviews the manifest description presentation to determine a plurality of elements that are associated with the value and sends a request to a device to resolve the plurality of elements using information from one of the elements. Information for supplement content is received for the group where the information for the supplemental content is inserted in the manifest description presentation in place of the plurality of elements.

Abstract: Various arrangements for authorizing content viewing are detailed herein. Sports wager data corresponding to a sports wager placed by a user may be provided to a television service provider system. The television service provider system can perform a lookup action to determine a content event based on the sports wager data. In response to the received sports wager data, a user account may be authorized using a rights scheme for access to a television channel on which the content event is scheduled to be broadcast. The television service provider system may deauthorized the user account for access to the television channel by removing the rights scheme such that access to the television channel on which the content event was broadcast is blocked after the event.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer readable media may be operable to facilitate the resolving of a tuner conflict at a digital video recorder. When a multimedia device receives a request for a new recording session, and there is no available tuner for carrying out the recording session, the multimedia device may determine a duration of time until a tuner becomes available. If the duration of time until a tuner becomes available is less than a threshold duration, the multimedia device may initiate the recording session once the tuner becomes available, and the missing portion of the recording may be recovered at an alternate time or from an alternate content source. When the missing portion is recovered, the recording and the missing portion may be stitched together. If the duration of time until a tuner becomes available is greater than a threshold, the multimedia device may present alternate times for recording the requested content.

Abstract: A display device according to an embodiment of the present invention can comprise: a display unit; an external device interface unit for exchanging information with a set-top box; and a control unit which receives set-top box information from the set-top box by means of the external device interface unit, determines whether or not a high definition multimedia interface-consumer electronics control (HDMI-CEC) function is turned on on the basis of the received set-top box information, and automatically turns on an HDMI-CEC function of the display device if the HDMI-CEC function is turned on.

Abstract: A system and method of adjusting playback of content in response to a viewer's emotional reaction is disclosed. The method includes detecting viewer emotion, via a camera, in reaction to subject matter of the content being presented on a display screen. The content includes subject matter and metadata associated with the subject matter. Additionally, the method analyzes the viewer emotion in reaction to the subject matter of the content presented on the display screen and identifies the analyzed viewer emotion in reaction to the subject matter of the content. The method also associates an identified viewer emotion with at least one playback attribute linked with the presentation of the content using the metadata associated with the subject matter of the content presented on the display screen. Further, the method adjusts the at least one playback attribute linked with presentation of the content that corresponds with the identified viewer emotion.

The reception device includes a high definition multimedia interface configured to receive first video data of a first high dynamic range video and first characteristic information for an electro-optical conversion of the first video data, the first characteristic information including a first value for the electro-optical conversion of the first video data when a first high dynamic range curve is to be indicated and a second value for the electro-optical conversion of the first video data when a second high dynamic range curve is to be indicated. The reception device includes reception circuitry configured to receive second video data of a second high dynamic range video and second characteristic information for electro-optical conversion of the second video data. The reception device further includes a video decoder, electro-optical conversion circuitry, and a display.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for selectively replaying interrupted segments of media content that are important for understanding a storyline of the media content. In response to detecting noise in a media presentation environment where a current segment is being played, it is determined whether the current segment is important. Responsive to the determination that the current segment is important, a complexity score of the audio component of the current segment is determined and a replay threshold is determined based on the complexity score. Responsive to the determination that the detected noise level is greater than the replay threshold, the current segment is replayed from the beginning instead of continuing to play the media content.

Abstract: Systems and methods in accordance with various embodiments of the present disclosure provide improved techniques to process and manage media content and associated intellectual property rights associated with the media content. Intellectual property rights associated with media content can include copyright, trademarks, licenses to composition, synchronization, performance, recordings, etc. In particular, various embodiments provide media licensing management and monetization based on media licensing using a centralized registry of media content and associated asset rights.

Abstract: A process for operating an electronic computing device to assign video streams to watcher devices. The electronic computing device detects objects of interest within a field-of-view of a camera as a function of incident context information. The electronic computing device obtains video display characteristics associated with watcher devices and further determines, based on respective positions of the objects of interest within the field-of-view, a plurality of sub-regions each enclosing at least one of the detected objects of interest and having one or more video attributes. The electronic computing device then assigns, based on the video display characteristics associated with the watcher devices and the video attributes of the sub-regions, each of the sub-regions to a respectively selected one of the watcher devices. The video streams respectively captured corresponding to each of the assigned sub-regions of interest are then transmitted to the respectively selected one of the watcher devices.

Abstract: One high-level aspect of a content-modification system and related methods may involve facilitating content modification by a content-presentation device of received broadcast content in a controlled manner, while under circumstances in which some events that can impact timing may be unpredictable. In particular, certain operations by a content-presentation device may involve matching received content with specific expected content as determined by one or another component of the content-modification system, in order to confirm proper conditions are met for the content-presentation device to proceed with, or continue, content-modification operations. It can happen the matching procedure becomes subject or susceptible to timing irregularities, or jitter. In some instances, jitter may impact the ability to derive the benefits of content modification. Accordingly, example embodiments herein are directed to systems and method for compensation and/or mitigating the effects of jitter.

Abstract: This disclosure describes techniques for providing notifications regarding relevant and trending digital content. For example, these techniques include identifying an instance of content accessible over a network as relevant content, monitoring a volume of activity associated with the relevant content over a period of time, comparing the volume of activity over the time period to a threshold level, and sending a notification to a client device when the volume of activity exceeds the threshold level.

Abstract: A disclosed digital media device operational at user premises to receive media signals from a media source for presentation via endpoint devices such as a television display. The digital media device can include gateway and digital media management functionality and can be referred to as a gateway and digital media device. The device offers application services obtained over a wide area network and a user premises network. The digital media device may form a composite signal from the media signal and application service information, for example, for a composite audio and/or video signal for television type presentation to the user. The digital media device may receive a selection signal based on the presentation, for transmission to the application service provider device or to the media source. Abstract: A system and method uses a first device fingerprint for a set-top box (STB) installed within a home theater environment which includes an over-the-top (OTT) device to cause a one a plurality of original equipment manufacturer (OEM) remote control setup procedures to be selected for use to configure an OEM remote control for the STB and the selected one of the plurality of OEM remote control setup procedures uses a second device fingerprint for the OTT device to cause the OEM remote control to be configured to transmit one or more commands to control functional operations of the OTT device.

Abstract: A reception device is provided that includes circuitry configured to receive a container. The container includes a video stream obtained by encoding video data. The video data is obtained by performing photoelectric conversion on input data of a high dynamic range image. The container further includes characteristic information for an electro-optical conversion of the video data that is inserted into a layer of the video stream and/or a layer of the container. The characteristic information indicates one of a plurality of types for the electro-optical conversion. The circuitry is configured to process the video stream included in the container.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a video transmission method, apparatus and computer-readable storage medium in the field of video play. The method includes: acquiring a first video frame and a second video frame of a video to be transmitted; acquiring difference information of the second video frame relative to the first video frame; and sending the difference information to a video receiving apparatus, the difference information being used for instructing the video receiving apparatus to generate the second video frame based on the difference information and the first video frame after receiving the first video frame. The needed bandwidth is small in the video transmission method of the present disclosure, the video transmission may not be restricted by the distance, and thus video transmission has a high flexibility.
