  • Patent number: 10193777
Abstract: A method and apparatus for maintaining network connectivity over power lines is disclosed. Such network connectivity is maintained even if various customers are covered by different power line networks or if one or more power lines in a network are unavailable to transmit data. More particularly, in order to bridge a gap in a power line network, one or more messages are extracted from a first node in a power line network and are then transmitted to a second node via free space transmission, illustratively wireless radio frequency (RF) transmission conforming to one or more of the 802.11a, b or g standards. When those messages are received at the second node, the message is injected back into the power line on the other side of a gap in power line coverage. This method of transmission backup will continue until power line connectivity is restore upon which the preferred method will be selected and used.

  • Patent number: 10165487
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a system and method for offloading selected data to an alternate communication network. The offloading provides another route for selected packet traffic that can relieve the burden on a mobile operator's network, such as the backhaul and core networks. As the proliferation of data rich content and increasingly more capable mobile devices has continued, the amount of data communicated over mobile operator's networks has exponentially increased. Upgrading the existing network that was designed for voice calls is not desirable or practical for many mobile operators. This disclosure provides systems and methods for offloading data to the Internet or another IP network to relieve congestion on the mobile operator's network.

  • Patent number: 10110490
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for forwarding a packet, where a first network virtualization edge (NVE) receives a first packet sent by a first tenant end system (TES), where a destination Internet Protocol (IP) address of the first packet is an IP address of a second TES, a destination media access control (MAC) address of the first packet is a gateway MAC address corresponding to the first NVE. The first NVE acquires an access virtual network identifier (VN ID) and a layer 3 virtual private network (VPN) instance identifier of the first TES, and searches a routing and forwarding table, to obtain an entry corresponding to the IP address of the second TES. Then the first NVE encapsulates the first packet into a network virtualization overlays (NVO3) packet according to the entry, and forwards the NVO3 packet to a second NVE to forward to the second TES.

  • Patent number: 10103776
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for synchronizing multiple channels in an access network, where the multiple channels are neighboring channels such that a guard band between them or use of a diplexer to prevent inter-channel interference is not required. Synchronization is achieved by defining channel MAP (media access plan) cycle structures such that all channels work in the same direction (upstream US or downstream DS) at any given time. Moreover, the network controller of channel may send out a beacon to allow new nodes to join. A long MAP cycle (402) may be followed by three consecutive regular MAP cycles (404, 406), and (408). These MAP cycles are repeated between beacon transmissions. Synchronization allows multiple channels to be configured contiguous (without a guard band between neighboring channels) and without utilizing diplexers. A plurality of customer premises equipment may operate on each of the communications channels.
