  • Patent number: 4181471
Abstract: Nuclear reactor coolant pump having a tooling boom mounted on the periphery of the motor stand of the pump for transferring pump components through openings in the motor stand during performance of maintenance on the pump. The tooling boom comprises an articulated arm mounted on the periphery of the motor stand with a gripping mechanism attached to the arm at the end opposite the arm's attachment to the motor stand. The gripping mechanism is capable of having pump components firmly attached thereto so that when the articulated arm is swung in the horizontal plane, the pump components may be transferred between the inside and outside of the motor stand.

  • Patent number: 4181474
Abstract: In a vertical hermetic compressor, an inner cylindrical housing coaxially mounted within a sealed outer enclosure, sealably carries at its lower end, paired helical screw rotors defining with the inner housing a screw compressor compression chamber and supports coaxially with one of the screw rotors and constituting an axial extension thereof the compressor electrical drive motor by longitudinally spaced tapered roller bearings. Oil is bled from the sump and fed to the suction inlet tube to the compressor upstream of the working gas filter. Compressed working fluid is discharged axially downwardly with the lower tapered roller bearing assembly providing a minimal high pressure gap between the screw rotor ends and the stationary end plates. Entrained oil from the discharge passage which extends through the electric motor rotor seeks the suction side of the compressor through the upper of the two tapered roller bearing pack assemblies for controlled continuous lubrication of the upper bearing assembly.

  • Patent number: 4179249
Abstract: A peristaltic pump is disclosed which facilitates quick loading of a compressible tubular conduit through which fluid may be pumped. The pump includes a pair of reaction members pivotally mounted on a base plate for movement between open and closed positions relative to a rotor, the reaction members being releasably retained in their closed positions by a locking plate. The compressible tube partially encircles the rotor and has its ends releasably engaged by clamping means which prevents axial movement of the tube and is adapted to accommodate tubes of different diameter.

  • Patent number: 4175916
Abstract: A pump supported from a wheeled trailer having a hitch connection with a tractor drawbar and a drive connection with the power take-off of the tractor with the pump including dual inlets enabling it to be backed into a ditch, sump, concrete canal, sewage lagoon, or the like. The hitch includes an elevated central portion defined by upwardly angulated portions rigidly connected at the center to facilitate the pump and its supporting frame and wheels being easily backed into and operated in relatively deep ditches. A drive shaft includes a universal joint supported at the apex of the angulated portions of the hitch so that the portion of the drive shaft connected to the tractor power take-off will be substantially in alignment with the power take-off on the tractor when the pump and its supporting frame and wheels are positioned in a deep ditch, sump, concrete canal, or the like.

  • Patent number: 4174927
Abstract: There is disclosed herein a lubrication system for a compressor which includes means for directing lubricant supplied to an upper bearing across the working surfaces thereof and returning this lubricant directly to the oil sump of the compressor thereby preventing lubricant from entering the compressor means which may result in slugging thereof. This oil return means includes an upper bearing which is provided with grooves on the working surface thereof which direct excess oil supplied to the bearing back to the oil sump while allowing a lubricating film of oil to remain between the adjacent bearing and crankshaft surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4173436
Abstract: A pivotable pipe slide for use in a two cylinder concrete pump includes a swing pipe which is pivotably moved in a reciprocal fashion between the two discharge openings of the pump cylinders in such a manner that it is pressed against the discharge openings in its end positions, while it is moved away therefrom during its pivotal movement between its end positions. Pivoting is effected by means of a movable joint which is coupled to an end segment of the swing pipe and which has an axis disposed normally to the pivot plane of the swing pipe, a fixed joint spaced from the movable joint and disposed centrally between the discharge openings which also has an axis disposed normally to the pviot plane and a guide joint which is coupled to the movable joint and is pivotable about the fixed joint.

  • Patent number: 4171934
Abstract: A submergible electric pump has a discharge head provided with a locking device for locking the discharge head to a well liner. The locking device comprises a plurality of lugs that are projected into a groove in the well liner when the pump is lowered through the liner to an operative position, at which the discharge head is sealed in the liner. The discharge head has inner and outer tubular members, the outer member seating on the liner and being held against rotation relative to the liner. The inner member continues to move downwardly after the outer member is seated, camming the locking lugs outwardly through windows in the outer member and into the liner groove. The lugs provide support for the weight of the pump installation and prevent rotation between the inner and outer members of the discharge head.

  • Patent number: 4171189
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for converting the motion of waves in a body of water to a usable form, including a support structure, a lever arm pivotally supported from the support structure, and a buoy fixed to one end of the lever arm and positioned on the body of water. A lift-force pump is attached to the lever arm and actuated by the movement of the lever arm of the body of water. The pump, the lever arm and the buoy are designed such that the buoy is substantially submerged in the body of water by ascending waves before a sufficient buoyance force is applied by the water to the buoy to drive the pump thereby making more efficient use of the buoyance force on the buoy.

  • Patent number: 4153392
Abstract: There is disclosed herein a lubrication system for a compressor which provides means for separating and flushing foreign particles contained in the lubricant so as to minimize the number of such particles being circulated through the lubrication system thereby reducing the possibility of damaging the bearings. The foreign particles are separated from the main lubricant flowpath by centrifugal forces and are flushed downwardly into collection means in the lower bearing housing and out through a passage provided therein back to the oil sump. An extension of this passage in the lower bearing housing is also adapted to cooperate with a portion of an axial thrust bearing to prevent rotation thereof.

  • Patent number: 4148436
Abstract: A multi-cylinder reciprocating compressor is automatically staged at low ambient temperature to improve refrigerant volume flow while facilitating subcooler operation and return of vaporized refrigerant from the subcooler to the inlet of the second stage cylinders of the compressor in the two stage mode. A solar evaporator substitutes for the outdoor coil when the solar heated storage tank temperature exceeds that of ambient. During staging mode, the wrist pins of the low side cylinders and the high side cylinder undergo proper load reversals, since intermediate suction pressure is applied to the wrist pin of the high side cylinders.

  • Patent number: 4145821
Abstract: After rugs have been cleaned in place in dwellings using liquids, even though the cleaning operations involve the vacuuming of then dirty cleaning liquids from the rug, considerable moisture is left in the rugs. To remove this residual moisture this rug dryer is centered over a large rug area. Then during drying operations the dryer blower fan draws room air in from above and directs the room air downwardly toward the rug for distribution along the floor and through the rug fibers in multiple directions away from the fan, while being directionally controlled near the rug, below a continuous floating and fluttering layer of an air impervious material extended over a large area of the rug. In a preferred embodiment, the axis of the dryer blower fan is arranged vertically and the fan housing of the blower assembly is mounted above the rug on small diameter legs. Also the fan housing of the blower assembly has a spaced outer ring to which the air impervious material is attached.
