Patent number: 8083434Abstract: A method of cold in-place recycling of asphalt to remediate distressed roads. Asphalt particles obtained by milling the existing asphalt are limited by screening to a maximum size of about one inch length. Asphalt particle size may be established by limiting tooth spacing of the road milling equipment milling head to about 5/16 inch or 8 millimeter spacing intervals. A predetermined proportion of portland cement, water, and asphalt emulsion are added to generated asphalt particles. Portland cement may be deposited onto the existing asphalt prior to milling. The resulting combination is mixed to generate a recycled mix, which may then be discharged onto the road being remediated and further processed, such as by screeding, compacting, and sealing.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 2009Date of Patent: December 27, 2011Assignee: Gorman Bros., Inc.Inventors: Albert Mark Gorman, Paul Anthony Gorman, Douglas Jones, John Dearborn

Patent number: 8079775Abstract: A non-slick surface-seeded exposed aggregate concrete product and method of making the same enhances the coefficient of friction of an exposed surface thereof to reduce undesirable slipping and sliding. Implementations of the present invention are characterized by the use of fine sand and aggregate broadcast over the exposed surface, which surface has been prepared to receive the same. After curing, the exposed surface is then ground and acid-etched to define fissures, cracks, and/or sharp edges of the aggregate. Subsequently finishing steps are performed to produce the non-slick concrete product which may be used for high traffic pedestrian areas where foot gripping and traction are important, such as on stairs, ramps, walkways, courtyards, and the like.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 2010Date of Patent: December 20, 2011Assignee: Lithocrete, Inc.Inventors: Ronald D. Patent number: 8070385Abstract: A control is provided for a machine that applies a material to a subgrade and pulls a floating screed over the top surface of the material behind the machine. The floating screed is attached to the machine by at least one tow arm at a tow point on the tow arm. The vertical height of the tow point is controlled by a hydraulic cylinder on the machine in response to a valve control signal applied to a hydraulic valve. The screed determines the thickness of the material on the subgrade as it is manipulated by adjusting the height of the tow point such that the top surface of the material follows a reference surface. A first sensor is mounted on the machine, adjacent the front of the machine, for sensing the relative height of the reference surface and providing a first sensor output related thereto. A second sensor for senses the height of the tow point relative to the machine and provides a second sensor output related thereto.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 2008Date of Patent: December 6, 2011Assignee: Caterpillar Trimble Control Technologies, LLCInventor: Francisco Green
