Abstract: A method, apparatus and medium are provided for detecting anomalous payloads transmitted through a network. The system receives payloads within the network and determines a length for data contained in each payload. A statistical distribution is generated for data contained in each payload received within the network, and compared to a selected model distribution representative of normal payloads transmitted through the network. The model payload can be selected such that it has a predetermined length range that encompasses the length for data contained in the received payload. Anomalous payloads are then identified based on differences detected between the statistical distribution of received payloads and the model distribution. The system can also provide for automatic training and incremental updating of models.

Abstract: A Quality of Experience (QoE) framework provides a technique to assess the end user experience in a mobile wireless communication environment, such as 2.5G or 3G networks, or in any other wireless or hardwired communication environment. The framework is usable in conjunction with media streaming applications and enables a combination of network layer, transport layer, codec layer, and application layer measurements in extracting results. The extracted results can be used to monitor and improve, if necessary, the end user experience over severely variable network conditions.

Abstract: A method provides differentiated quality of service (QoS) by providing adaptive updates to media access control (MAC) layer parameters on a distributed basis. The method includes calculating a failure probability for a transmission over the network, determining a target value for determining a contention window according to a mapped function of the failure probability, and altering the contention window according to a scaling function of the target value. The mapped function and the scaling can provide QoS differentiation. A wireless device ensures fairness in a wireless time slotted network and includes a network interface card (NIC), a network driver interface, a network monitor, a statistics engine, and an adaptive parameter engine for determining a target value for determining a contention window according to a mapped function of the one or more probabilities to enable an alteration of the contention window and provide new parameters for the MAC layer.

Abstract: In a particular embodiment, a method of evaluating a network is disclosed. The method identifies potential failure points between a layer two asynchronous transfer mode network and a layer one Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) network. The method includes identifying a first set of circuit identifiers of inter-nodal links of a layer two asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network, correlating a second set of circuit identifiers associated with elements of a layer one SONET network, identifying a subset of the first set of circuit identifiers of those inter-nodal links that are mated with each other, and comparing the subset of the first set of circuit identifiers to the second set of circuit identifiers to identify single point of failure elements including interface elements and add drop multiplexer elements.
Abstract: The request for the response from the sender to the receiver is dynamically routed via a first route traversing the network nodes. Addresses of the traversed network nodes are recorded in an order of traversing in the request. A second route is determined based on the recorded addresses of the nodes. A supplemental packet is generated. The supplemental packet is transmitted to the sender of the request via the determined second route, from a node address to a node address. The response is dynamically routed to the sender of the request by reversely traversing the first route.
Abstract: In a method for creating expressway for overlay routing, an existing peer-to-peer network is organized into a plurality of zones. The plurality of zones is organized into a plurality of levels. Neighboring zones are identified for each zone of the plurality of zones. One or more representatives are identified for each neighboring zone. A routing table is created based the plurality of zones, the neighboring zones, the one or more representatives, and the plurality of levels.
