Abstract: A building automation system (BAS) may control ultra-violet (UV) lights to intelligently disinfect a disinfection environment (e.g., a patient room). In some examples, the BAS includes a disinfection environment tracking engine and a UV light control engine. The disinfection environment tracking engine may access patient room data indicative of a state of a patient room of a patient, medical data of the patient, the medical data of the patient specifying a medical condition of the patient, real-time location data of the patient. The UV light control engine may control operation of UV lights to disinfect the patient room based on the patient room data, the medical data of the patient, and the real-time location data of the patient.

  • Patent number: 11266189
Abstract: A self-sterilizing, face mask, respirator, open or enclosed face shield employs germicidal, far UV-C light safe for direct human exposure, mitigating risk of acquisition or transmission of respiratory pathogens, such as COVID 19. Device attachments or special lenses direct far UV-C light into the respiratory chamber and/or reservoir areas of infection including nasal, oropharyngeal or ocular areas to reduce or eliminate pathogens, serving also as a treatment modality. In a preferred embodiment the face shield has a removable front section, which can be exchanged or replaced with sections that include various functional attributes while maintaining germicidal protections and avoiding need to remove PPE during these activities including consumption of liquids, oral medications or food, as well as providing antimicrobial absorbent sneeze or cough guard or rhinorrhea secretion absorption, or a communication device to address communication deficiencies caused by respiratory protection barriers.

  • Patent number: 11246951
Abstract: This invention relates to a method, process and apparatus for disinfecting and sterilizing all types of surfaces contaminated with microorganisms and toxic substances to render both inactive. Furthermore, this invention relates to both a method and apparatus for disinfecting and/or sterilizing breathable air and then using this air to protect a confined space from external contamination. The apparatus consists of a new ultra-violet (NUV) source that is more effective than mercury based 254 nm light for destroying DNA of virus, bacteria, spores and cists. It is most effective in breaking chemical bonds in toxic gases and Biotoxins that are useful to terrorists. It is combined with other apparatus that remove particulates and byproducts sometimes produced by the NUV source and maintains positive pressure of the confined space so as to prevent the influx of air from outside the protected zone.

  • Patent number: 11179490
Abstract: A method and apparatus for electro-hydrodynamic destruction of an aerosol. The method includes receiving air having large aerosols, greater than about 1 micron, and small aerosols, smaller than about 1 micron, and entraining the large aerosols and small aerosols within an airflow. The airflow is directed to an electric field, which causes the large aerosols to react with the electric field to accumulate an electric charge resulting in extraction of the large aerosols from the airflow. The airflow is also directed to a non-thermal plasma such that the small aerosols remain entrained in the airflow and are subject to electro-hydrodynamic (EHD) phenomena. The non-thermal plasma outputs at least one of radicals, excited species, and ionized atoms and molecules capable of reacting with the small aerosols to result in physical and/or chemical destruction of the small aerosols.

  • Patent number: 11173222
Abstract: A low dose disinfection and control system that utilizes empirical and theoretical data to compare performance, sensor data, stored patterns, historical usage, use intensity indexes over time and tracking information to provide a sophisticated data collection system for disinfection. The data can be used to dynamically control UV treatment parameters. This tracking is designed to enable a learning and feedback tool that helps to modify behavior and the understanding of infection. The present invention provides a system for integrating UV treatment into products. The product may include an outer layer of UV transmissive material forming an external touch surface. The UV disinfection system includes a UV source internal to the product. In use, the internal UV source produces UV-C light that passes into and permeates the outer layer to treat the touch surface. A UV reflective layer may be disposed beneath the outer layer.

  • Patent number: 11142470
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for disinfecting water mains using ultraviolet (UV) light and advanced oxidation processes. One or more UV light sources are provided and secured to a movable device that moves axially in a pipe. The frequency and intensity of the UV light is determined based on characteristics of the pipe, such as its material and size. The rate at which the movable device moves through the pipe is also determined so that the interior surface of the pipe is properly disinfected. The movable device is remotely caused to move through the pipe. An oxidant supply component having a dispensing portion dispenses an oxidizing agent into the pipe. A portion of the emitted UV light may convert the dispensed oxidizing agent into additional oxidizing agents that further disinfect the pipe.
