  • Patent number: 7372233
Abstract: A method is provided for operating a converter circuit, in particular a pulse-width modulated frequency converter circuit having a DC voltage intermediate circuit, which controls two or more winding sections of a polyphase dynamo-electrical machine, in particular a three-phase asynchronous motor for a laundry appliance. The method determines one or more parameters of the dynamo-electrical machine, before a rotating field is produced in the dynamo-electrical machine by the converter circuit. The parameters can be used to deduce a variant of the dynamo-electrical machine, and to select open-loop and closed-loop control parameters which are associated with the variant. Likewise, the method allows possible machine faults to be determined by using the parameters.

  • Patent number: 7365510
Abstract: In a method for measuring motor speed and position by detecting the back EMF generated during pole-pair interactions, a separate respective duration of a power phase suppression signal, that is set during back EMF detection, is stored in memory for each respective pole. The separate respective duration values are determined during a calibration phase by iteratively lengthening each respective duration one unit at a time (up to a maximum value) until no part of the respective back EMF signal occurs outside the suppression signal duration, and those values are stored. During operation, the approach of a pole-pair interaction may be determined from the electrical cycle of the power supply, and then the stored duration value is used to control the state of the suppression signal.

  • Patent number: 7365508
Abstract: A motor comprises: coil on/off switching devices for switching between an on-state wherein current is supplied to the coils, and a first off-state wherein the coil terminals are open-circuited or a second off-state wherein the coil terminals are short-circuited; and a coil current control device for controlling switching operations of the coil on/off switching devices according to commands input to the motor. In the event that motor movement with great mechanical compliance is required, the ratio of the period of the first off-state is increased, and on the other hand, in the event that motor movement with great viscosity resistance is required, the ratio of the period of the second off-state is increased. This solves the problems of torque loss and cogging during a period wherein no current is applied to the coil.

  • Patent number: 7362061
Abstract: A gate driver for forcing a power transistor including a gate electrode insulated with oxide film into conduction or shut-off, the gate driver includes a first current source for outputting a first current value to raise an electric potential of the gate electrode for changing shut-off state of the power transistor to conductive state; and a second current source for outputting a second current value to lower the electric potential of the gate electrode for changing the conductive state of the power transistor to the shut-off state. The first current value and the second current value are assigned based on at least one kind of current-source control information. This structure allows preparing an appropriate speed of forcing the power transistor into conduction or shut-off with a small number of elements, and the gate driver can be used with ease for driving power transistors having different output sizes.

  • Patent number: 7362068
Abstract: A controller reduces an output of the drive motor when a window glass reaches a speed shift position, which is between a fully open position and a fully closed position of the window glass, in a closing operation of the window glass. The controller increases the output of the drive motor based on a position signal, which indicates that the position of the closing member in the closing operation is in a preclosed position located on a fully closed position side of the speed shift position. The preclosed position is located in a pinch-monitoring disabled zone, in which the monitoring of the pinching of the object through the controller is disabled.

  • Patent number: 7348741
Abstract: A vehicle which uses an internal combustion engine and a motor generator as drive sources is provided with a battery disposed under a seat and a fan for cooling the battery. Power is exchanged between the motor generator and battery via an inverter. An electronic control unit estimates the level of background noise which is noise other than the operating sound of the fan in the passenger compartment based on the vehicle speed and rotation speed, etc., of the internal combustion engine. Then, the electronic control unit calculates an operation command value for the fan based on the estimated background noise level and temperature level of the battery and controls the rotation speed of the fan through the operation command value. As a result, it is possible to effectively cool the battery while reducing sensible noise caused by the operating sound of the fan.

  • Patent number: 7319299
Abstract: A cooling fan, system and method for controlling cooling fans in a personal computer. A unique series of sensing points is placed on a rotating hub of a cooling fan in order to uniquely identify the particular type of cooling fan. A tachometer sensor mounted in the cooling fan detects the unique series of sensing points as the cooling fan rotates and generates a sequence of pulses corresponding to the detected sending points. This generated pulse signal may be transmitted by the sensor to the fan control code. The fan control code may determine a particular type of cooling fan that the cooling fan is based on the generated pulse signal. Once the fan control code determines the particular type of cooling fan that the cooling fan is, the fan control code uses particular control parameters set for that particular type of cooling fan to control the cooling fan so that it operates optimally.
