  • Patent number: 8893777
Abstract: A chemical deployment plunger includes a reservoir body that has a top and a bottom and an internal chemical reservoir. The chemical reservoir includes one or more channels extending along the inside of the reservoir. The chemical deployment plunger includes a neck attached to the top of the reservoir body and the neck includes one or more ejection ports connected to the chemical reservoir. A plunger is movably connected to the bottom of the reservoir body and is configured for retraction and deployment from the reservoir body. The retraction of the plunger causes the treatment chemicals within the chemical reservoir to be expelled through the ejection ports. The plunger may include intake ports that allow the flow of fluid from below the plunger through the reservoir body and out the ejection ports. This permits the gradual release of treatment chemicals as fluids pass through the chemical deployment plunger.

  • Patent number: 8844623
Abstract: There is provided a system and method for installing a wellhead component in a single trip. Generally, a wellhead component may be run into a wellhead using a running tool. The running tool may then be retrieved from the wellhead and replaced with a locking tool, which is also run into the wellhead. Additional tools may be used to over-pull the wellhead component and to cementing the wellhead component in place. The process of retrieving and running tools into the wellhead is both time-consuming and costly. Accordingly, the disclosed embodiments include a one-trip tool configured to run a wellhead component into a wellhead, engage an internal coupling to lock the wellhead component in place, over-pull the wellhead component to ensure the internal coupling was properly engaged, and cement the wellhead component in place within the wellhead.

  • Patent number: 8807208
Abstract: A method for using a power swivel with tilt capable of being tilted to any angle up to an adjustable maximum tilt angle. The method allows adjusting the tilting power swivel's angle of tilt to line up with pipe staged at various angles as required by different rigs. The method allows for adjusting the maximum extension of the tilt cylinder, and further allows the power swivel to be repeatedly positioned at a desired angle for the duration of a job. The method requires the addition of only one hydraulic fluid supply hose, thereby allowing a simple live hose reel with four hoses. The method for using a power swivel with tilt promotes safety, efficiency, and saves time by eliminating the need for a stabbing man hanging in the derrick.

  • Patent number: 8770290
Abstract: A gravel pack assembly gravel packs a horizontal borehole. Operators wash down the borehole using a tool in a first position by flowing fluid from the tool through the apparatus' toe. Operators then gravel pack by moving the tool to a first flow port between a screen and the toe. Slurry flows into the borehole from the first flow port, and returns from the borehole flow through the screen. The gravel in the slurry can pack the borehole in an alpha-beta wave from toe to heel. When the tool has a sleeve, operators can break any bridges by flowing fluid from the passage of the assembly into the tool. In another condition, operators can move the tool to a second flow port. Slurry can flow into to the borehole through a shunt extending from the second flow port. Meanwhile, returns can flow from the borehole through a bypass in the assembly.
