Patent number: 9531412Abstract: Various embodiments provide for systems and methods for increased linear output power of a transmitter. An exemplary wireless communications system for transmitting an input signal comprises a predistorter module, a GaN power amplifier, a coupler, and an antenna. The predistorter module is configured to detect existing distortion by comparing the input signal to a feedback signal and generate a correction signal. The predistorter may adaptively adjust its operation to minimize the existing distortion due to GaN power amplifier nonlinear characteristics. The result is that the GaN power amplifier may send a power signal of improved linearity to the antenna. The coupler is configured to sample the amplified signal from the GaN power amplifier to generate the feedback signal. The antenna is configured to transmit the amplified signal.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 2015Date of Patent: December 27, 2016Assignee: Aviat U.S., Inc.Inventors: Jayesh Nath, Ying Shen, Frank Matsumoto, Youming Qin, David C. Patent number: 9520833Abstract: An active ring mixer circuit for use in a receive or transmit channel of an RF radio. The circuit comprises plural transistor pairs arranged in a ring and biased into an active or saturation region. A first input is adapted to receive an RF signal. The first input is electrically combined with the plural transistor pairs to provide negative feedback to the plural transistor pairs. A second input electrically combined with the plural transistor pairs is adapted to receive a local oscillator signal. An output of the mixer is adapted to provide a mixed signal from the plural transistor pairs. Advantageously, the mixer circuit induces little low frequency spurs that may interfere with radio operation and has significantly reduced power consumption, lower noise figure, and good balance.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2009Date of Patent: December 13, 2016Assignee: Rockwell Collins, Inc.Inventors: Russell D. Patent number: 9413476Abstract: An outdoor satellite receiving unit (ODU) receives several independent satellite signals, selects two signals with a switch matrix, downconverts the two signals to a bandstacked signal with a high and a low band signal, and outputs the bandstacked signal on the same cable to receiver units. Several satellite signals can be selected in groups of two or more and output to independent receiver units. Signal selecting is performed at the received radio frequency (RF) and bandstacking is performed with a single downconversion step to an intermediate frequency (IF). Channel stacking on the same cable of more than two channels from several satellites can be achieved by using frequency agile downconverters and bandpass filters prior to combining at the IF output. A slow transitioning switch minimizes signal disturbances when switching and maintains input impedance at a constant value.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 2014Date of Patent: August 9, 2016Assignee: ENTROPIC COMMUNICATIONS, LLCInventors: Branislav Petrovic, Dale Hancock, Jeremy Goldblatt, Keith Bargroff
