  • Patent number: 4545206
Abstract: For use in a brake booster of the type having a master cylinder disposed rearwardly of a booster mechanism having a power piston and in which a braking reaction force produced on an output shaft is transmitted therefrom to an input shaft through a reaction disc and a reaction transmitting member, an apparatus is provided for adjusting the magnitude of a clearance defined between the reaction disc and the reaction transmitting member. In this apparatus, the input shaft comprises a first section associated with the reaction transmitting member and a second section on which a valve seat is formed. The valve seat forms a valve mechanism disposed within a valve body for controlling the opening or closing of a passage for hydraulic fluid. The first and the second section of the input shaft are formed by separate members, both of which project toward the front shell and are connected together in a manner to permit their relative position to be adjusted.

  • Patent number: 4531450
Abstract: A two-stage actuator comprises a pair of axially aligned bellows molded from a thermoplastic material and connected at their adjacent ends by a molded link section integral with the bellows. The other end of one of the bellows is designed to be connected to a stationary machine part while the other end of the other bellows is designed to be connected to a movable machine part. Each bellows has an accordion-type convolution section pneumatically connected through a conduit and a valve to a vacuum source so that the convolution section is axially collapsed by vacuum when applied. A link member axially extends over the convolution section of the other bellows and has an end fixed relative to the one bellows. The other end of the other bellows is in the form of an axially elongated protrusion slidably extending through an opening formed in the other end of the link member.

  • Patent number: 4524676
Abstract: A hydraulic cylinder having a locking device disposed in either, or both head ends which attach to the cylinder, has a piston reciprocally movable within a piston chamber formed in the cylinder. A stud member having a groove portion and a stud portion, secures to the piston for reciprocal movement therewith. The stud member axially moves within a stud bore formed in the head end such that, the stud bore acts as a variable volume stud chamber. A plunger member, disposed in the head end, is in fluid communication with the variable volume stud bore such that, movement of the stud member into the stud bore increases the fluid pressure, thus forcing the plunger out of contact with the stud portion of the stud member. When a predetermined pressure occurs, an outlet valve to the stud bore opens, reducing the fluid pressure and allowing the plunger to be urged into engagement with the groove portion of the stud member thus effecting a locked condition.

  • Patent number: 4523515
Abstract: In order to enable a piston cylinder unit 1,2 with air entry through a hollow shaft 6, to be operated in either mode of operation with a single type of shaft, it is proposed in accordance with the invention to manufacture the shaft 6 in three parts, namely an upper air inlet portion 6a, an intermediate portion 6b which provides access for air to the cylinder via one or more apertures 18, and an operating end portion 6c. These three parts are threaded together and sealed by seals 21 and 24. Captive nuts 3 and 8 are provided at both ends of the cylinder so that the cylinder may be attached to a yoke 4 by either end, with the opposite end carrying a bearing 9 for the air inlet portion 6a of the shaft. If it is desired for the piston to operate in the opposite mode of operation, the portions 6a and 6c are interchanged and the cylinder is attached to the yoke using the captive nuts 8 rather than the nuts 3.

  • Patent number: 4516467
Abstract: A quick changeover hydraulic circuit for use in an auger drive mode or percussion hammer mode, controllable in each mode by the same flow regulator. The circuit comprises a first branch circuit which powers a first auxiliary hydraulic powered device and a hydraulic motor for drill steel rotation. A second branch circuit powers a hydraulic percussion motor for a drill steel hammer or a rotary hydraulic motor for an auger, only one of which is in the circuit at one time. An interbranch circuit comprises a priority flow divider which distributes flow. In a first mode with the percussion motor for the drill steel hammer connected into the second branch the flow is delivered to the steel rotation motor and the first auxiliary device. In a second mode with the auger motor connected into the second branch, combined flow from both branches is delivered to the auger motor.

  • Patent number: 4515065
Abstract: A high resolution servo actuator is responsive to an electronic control or manual control. An output shaft having fast response and infinite positioning for stroking a manual servo valve on a pump is rotated by hydraulic power. A set of hydraulic working cylinders and centering cylinders are connected through a rack and pinion drive to a shaft. Centering cylinders utilize stop tubes to prevent its pistons from traveling past the center position and applying a constant force to center the shaft. A directional valve controls the flow of hydraulic fluid to the working cylinders for driving the shaft throughout its range of travel. An electrohydraulic servo valve converts the electronic control signal into hydraulic flow to the actuator. Shaft position feedback is developed and connected to the electronic control.

  • Patent number: 4506507
Abstract: A liquid reservoir for a hydraulic master cylinder, having a body with a detachable cap for refilling the reservoir, and a diaphragm secured in position by the cap and dividing the reservoir into an air chamber, vented to atmosphere via a hole in the cap and a liquid chamber connected to the master cylinder. An inlet port is provided in the wall of the reservoir for initial charging of the liquid into the liquid chamber without removal of the cap, the port being closed by a plug after the liquid reservoir has been filled. The method of filling a hydraulic control system which has such a reservoir is by the application of vacuum to the system via the inlet port, introducing liquid into the system through the port and subsequently sealing the port with the plug.
