  • Patent number: 8590424
Abstract: An automatic transmission has a transmission casing accommodating a transmission mechanism and a filter case attached to the transmission casing and having an oil filter. The transmission casing has a concave portion with which at least an oil inlet or an oil outlet communicates and an overhanging portion positioned close to the concave portion and extending along a surface of the transmission casing with a clearance provided between the surface and the overhanging portion. The filter case has a case body inserted into the concave portion, a seal member sealing a boundary between an outer circumferential surface of the case body and an inside surface of the concave portion, a first brim portion protruding from the outer circumferential surface and fixed to the surface of the transmission casing, and a second brim portion protruding from the outer circumferential surface and inserted into the clearance.

  • Patent number: 8584552
Abstract: A flywheel apparatus has a motor, a drive shaft connected to the motor, an upper conical section affixed to the drive shaft, and a lower conical section affixed to the drive shaft opposite said upper conical section. The upper conical section and lower conical section each have a plurality of layers, including a hollow core positioned adjacent the drive shaft, and alternating layers of tempered rings and non-tempered rings arranged outwardly of the hollow core. The alternating layers of tempered rings and non-tempered rings are joined with a elastomeric adhesive. The plurality of layers further include a hollow cavity positioned outwardly of the alternating layers, and a rim positioned outwardly of said hollow cavity. The hollow cavity can be filled with a fluid such as water, mercury-based fluids, oil-based fluids, or mixtures thereof.

  • Patent number: 8556509
Abstract: An active/self-sensing compensating hydrostatic bearing is disposed between first and second structures to allow relative movement between the first and second structures. The hydrostatic bearing includes a body and a compensator. The body, fixed to the first structure and separated from the second structure by a first gap, has a chamber and an input passage and an output passage both communicating with the chamber. The compensator is disposed in the chamber. A compensating passage, communicating with the input passage and the output passage, is formed between the body and the compensator. A pressurized fluid flows from the input passage to the output passage through the compensating passage, and the pressurized fluid in the output passage flows to the first gap to maintain the stability and the rigidity for the relative movement between the first and second structures. A hydrostatic bearing module using the hydrostatic bearing is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8438947
Abstract: A bicycle crank arm has a body member and a cover member that at least partially overlies a peripheral surface of the body member. The body member includes a crank axle attachment portion that has a crank axle receiving opening. A slit extends from the peripheral surface of the body member to the crank axle receiving opening. A fastener bore extends transversely through the slit for adjusting the crank axle receiving opening in size. The peripheral surface of the body member has abutments located on opposite sides of the slit. The abutments are arranged relative to the slit such that the abutments move closer together as the crank axle attachment portion is squeezed to decrease the crank axle receiving opening in size. The cover member contacts the abutments and moves with the abutments as the crank axle attachment portion is squeezed to decrease the crank axle receiving opening in size.
