  • Patent number: 6212446
Abstract: A method for detecting an out-of-step in an electric power system in which two power systems are connected at both sides of a transmission line. The method includes the steps of, a voltage and current taking step for taking in a voltage and a current of the electric power system at regular intervals, a phase angle difference computing step for computing a phase angle difference between the voltage and the current taken by the voltage and current taking step, and an out-of-step judging step for receiving the phase angle difference, for obtaining a change amount in the phase angle differences at every measuring interval and for judging that an out-of-step occurs between the two power systems in the electric power system when the change amount in the phase angle differences is below a predetermined threshold value for detecting sudden change in phase angle and the phase angle difference is above a preset out-of-step judging phase angle difference.

  • Patent number: 6209089
Abstract: Methods and systems for adjusting an operating system configuration according to changes in hardware components of a client computer. The adjusted operating system can boot on the client computer regardless of changes in the hardware configuration of the client computer since it was last connected to a network server. Before the operating system boots, a preliminary connection is established between the client computer and the server. During the preliminary connection, the system identifies hardware components that are new and that must be supported by the operating system for bootup to occur. In particular, the server sends information relating to the previous client hardware configuration to the client computer. The client computer compares its current hardware configuration to the previous hardware configuration information, thereby identifying its new hardware components. Information identifying the new hardware components is sent to the server.

  • Patent number: 6209102
Abstract: A user inputting his access code (e.g., PIN or password) into an computing environment to access a transaction is at risk of losing the access code to an attacker who has physical or electronic access to the computing environment. To minimize this risk, the access code can be entered via a plurality of user-selectable fields, each of which takes on a series of values, the initially displayed values of which are established in a random or otherwise unpredictable manner. The user then uses a mouse, keyboard, or other input device to increment each of the selectable fields until the access code is correctly entered. Because of the randomization of the initial state, an attacker tracking the locations or number of mouse clicks or other navigation actions can not determine the finally entered access code by, e.g., computing an offset from a known initial state.

  • Patent number: 6195589
Abstract: An adapter having a housing is configured for removable attachment to a conventional PDA. The adapter is electrically coupled with the PDA and includes a light source configured to selectively emanate a light beam that can be modified into a digital signal. The digital signal can be received by a photo detector on computer for facilitating a download of data from the PDA to the computer. Software loaded in the memory of the PDA corresponds to predetermined remote-controllable devices. By inputting to the PDA the desired remote-controllable device and desired function, the light source emits a pulse signal that signals the remote-controllable devices to perform the desired function.

  • Patent number: 6178518
Abstract: A maximum flight time measuring circuit constituted by a first delay circuit for delaying a system clock and controlling its delay time in accordance with a strobe clock from DIMMs and a delayline register circuit for storing a delayed state in the delay circuit, and a second delay circuit are provided. Contents of the delayline register circuit are input to the second delay circuit, which is controlled to generate the same delay as that of the first delay circuit. The output of the second delay circuit is supplied as a data fetch signal to a control buffer for receiving read data DQ from the DIMMs.

  • Patent number: 6173406
Abstract: Authentication methods, systems and computer program products ensure that user media streaming requests originate with web documents having an authorized URL. The user makes a streaming request to a media server with a URL including a URL prefix, a path, and the name of a media work to be performed, which URL the media server compares with earlier made URL entries in a pre-established database. If there is a URL correspondence between a URL in the pre-established database and the URL extracted from the HTML document received by the browser from a web server, then streaming of the particular work is authorized.

  • Patent number: 6138244
Abstract: A symbol synchronization and timing recovery method for stabilizing jitter in a data receiver is provided. A one tap LMS algorithm is used for a pre-cursor estimate. A dead zone is set around the desired timing location and the local clock in the receiver is updated only if the timing signal is outside of the dead zone.

  • Patent number: 6131163
Abstract: A system for a network gateway that provides computer data security using a protocol stack proxy is disclosed. The system evaluates data that arrives at a computer system that is executing a network operating system. The system comprises a protocol stack proxy, coupled between a device driver on the computer system that is configured to receive the data from a network and deliver the data according to a first protocol associated with a first network layer, and one or more components of the network operating system that receive packets according to the first protocol.

  • Patent number: 6128730
Abstract: A configuration system and method uses a program device containing configuration software for configuring applications to be executed by a processing system through the use of externally provided values corresponding to environment variables that are used to define an execution environment for all of the applications to be executed by the system. The configuration system is used to establish a plurality of configuration file sources to be used in configuring applications wherein the files define a plurality of different operational levels. Each configuration file stores the values representative of a corresponding number of configurable items defining the environment for executing the applications. The values of each level has a pre-established override capability over the values of other levels.

  • Patent number: 6076173
Abstract: A tractable architecture level coverage measure uses information about the coverage measures obtained by the data path blocks, control logic blocks and cache to obtain an overall measure of coverage. This technique is applicable to a variety of different designs using different fabrication processes. Moreover, it allows the use of extended length test vectors, for example, such as those using commercial software applications. Since the coverage measure does not rely on the traditional stuck at model, it is applicable to extended length test vectors that may be used with high performance systems.
