  • Patent number: 8996094
Abstract: A system for compensating a neurally triggered or other self-caused displacement of a tissue of an animal including man comprises a base provided with a means for immobilizing the animal or body part thereof comprising the tissue, one or more displacement means in contact with the base, a means for sampling position data from a marker disposed in or in the proximity of the tissue, a means for sampling source activity data from one or more sources of displacement, microprocessor means for correlating position data and source activity data to generate a predictive correspondence, a means for controlling the one or more displacement means by source activity data based on the predictive correspondence. Also disclosed is a corresponding method and use.

  • Patent number: 8600125
Abstract: In the present methods, the automatic detection of polyps is converted into a 2D pattern recognition problem using conformal mapping and direct volume rendering. The colon surface is first segmented and extracted from the CT data set of the abdomen, which is then mapped to a 2D plane using conformal mapping. Ray casting is used to determine sub-surface density values and the flattened image is rendered using a volume rendering technique with a translucent electronic biopsy transfer function. Polyp candidates are detected by a clustering method which identifies regions of elevated sub-surface density. The potential for false positives is reduced by analyzing the volumetric shape and texture features of the polyp candidate regions.

  • Patent number: 8494612
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for navigation during medical interventions on tubular organ structures, characterized in that, before the intervention, static image data of the tubular organ structures are recorded and stored, the tubular organ structures are extracted from the image data and their course is converted into a geometric description used during the medical intervention for instrument/organ recording, and the instrument that is spatially localized by a tracking system is successively corrected in relation to the static data, by a transformation that is preferably defined by an optimization method, taking into account the geometric description and information on the previous distance covered by the instrument, or, conversely, the static data are successively corrected in relation to the instrument position, and thus the position of the instrument is associated with the anatomical structures in the static image data.

  • Patent number: 5055283
Abstract: A method for removing sodium polysulfide from used sodium/sulfur batteries provides that the cells are granulated under protective measures, the scrap is treated in a solution of sodium cyanide and the solution obtained is treated with air. The solution then contains sodium thiocyanate and sodium hydroxide, which latter can be reacted by means of CO.sub.2 to Na.sub.2 CO.sub.3, precipitated and separated.

  • Patent number: 5037479
Abstract: A method of treating solid hazardous wastes containing unacceptable levels of leachable metals such as lead, cadmium and zinc includes mixing the solid waste with a buffering agent selected from the group consisting of magnesium oxide, magnesium hydroxide, reactive calcium carbonates and reactive magnesium carbonates, and with an additional agent which is an acid or salt containing an anion that forms substantially nonleachable forms of the metals, which additional agent is selected from the group consisting of triple superphosphate, ammonium phosphate, diammonium phosphate, phosphoric acid, boric acid and metallic iron so that under both acidic and nonacidic leaching conditions the metals in the mixture will be converted to substantially nonleachable forms.
