  • Patent number: 4924757
Abstract: A mechanism for attaching a cylinder head on a hydraulic actuator to a cylinder uses a plurality of segmented, curved rings. The rings engage curved surfaces on a plug portion of the cylinder head and on the cylinder. Shear ring retaining plates position the shear ring segments. The cylinder head has a bearing which defines a bore for rotatably connecting the cylinder head to an external structure. The cylinder head also has a neck which joins the bearing with the cylinder plug. The neck has an enlarged dimension transverse to the bore axis and cylinder axis to minimize reaction forces against the shear ring segments generated by torque exerted against the bearing.

  • Patent number: 4922719
Abstract: An improved fluid transformer which is capable of controlling the position of the operating pistons within the apparatus so that pressure equilibrium is maintained and the movements of the pistons are limited to predetermined locations within the cylinders. The transformer is capable of operating in a contaminated environment by purging unwanted fluid contamination from the internal workings of the transformer. Dynamic piston and cylinder seals are positioned such that destructive pressure forces are counteracted by opposite frictional forces during operation, thereby allowing the seals to remain effective at high pressures for long periods of time.

  • Patent number: 4923366
Abstract: A reversible turbine pump includes a pair of end walls and a side wall defining an annular pumping chamber. A turbine impeller mounted for reversible rotation in the chamber includes a rigid input shaft. One end of the shaft extends through one end wall and is sealed from the chamber. A spring biases the other end of the shaft toward the other end wall. Cooperating thrust bearing members, mounted to the other end of the shaft and the other end wall, provide a large planar area of low friction engagement therebetween. The pumping chamber has a pair of inlets, a pair of outlets and a dam. The first inlet and second outlet are on one side of the dam while the second inlet and first outlet are on the other side of the dam so that reverse rotation of the impeller pumps fluid in opposite directions through a different set of inlet and outlet. Valves associated with the inlets and outlets permit fluid flow in the desired direction and prevent fluid flow in the opposite direction.

  • Patent number: 4920858
Abstract: A servo system includes a tubular drive shaft journalled in a housing. A screw is engaged threadably with a nut which is fixed in the drive shaft. A driven body is secured to an end of the screw so that the screw can effect a rectilinear movement with the driven body but cannot rotate. A motor can rotate the drive shaft in an infinite angle through a gearing so that the drive shaft can move in a first direction continuously. Then, an end of a fork is rotated by an abuttment element which is sleeved on the drive shaft. At this time, the other end of the fork activates a hydromechanical servo, and hence a hydraulic driving unit, to move the drive body in a second direction which is equal and a opposite the first direction. After which, the drive shaft is moved back to the original position by the driven body. The driven body is therefore moved a predetermined distance.

  • Patent number: 4921235
Abstract: A continuous web of paper which may be longitudinally folded in half is drawn around a rotating cylinder which cuts the web into pre-determined suitable lengths. Vacuum and air pressure means temporarily hold the severed portions of the web against the cylinder, but at an appropriate moment release the leading edge of the severed portion causing it to be lifted in its leading half away from the cylinder, the trailing half being retained by suction against the cylinder. The lifted leading edge folds backward against the trailing portion along a fold line, and subsequently the folded-together leading and trailing portions are released from the cylinder, transported away from the cylinder and into a stacking tray, for subsequent packaging. The cut and folded sections of the web are, at all times, held under control by a vacuum in one or more cylinders or conveyor belts until the very last moment when they are discharged into a receiving and stacking tray.

  • Patent number: 4919590
Abstract: The present invention relates to air bleed arrangements on a compressor of a gas turbine engine. A rotor of the compressor has a plurality of stages of rotor blades, and the rotor is formed from a plurality of axially adjacent rotor discs. Two axially adjacent rotor discs define a chamber therebetween for a radially inward flow of bleed air. The rotor is provided with a plurality of apertures in rotor disc which bleed air from the compressor and supply the bleed air to the chamber. The adjacent rotor discs have opposing radially extending surfaces, and one of the opposing surfaces has a plurality of circumferentially spaced radially extending vanes and radially extending grooves which direct the bleed air radially inwardly to minimize pressure losses in the bleed air flowing through the chamber. This arrangement is not complex, is relatively easy and inexpensive to manufacture, has reduced weight and allows compressor to be manufactured by welding the rotor discs together.
