  • Patent number: 4151674
Abstract: An improved flying cylinder and method of constructing the cylinder is disclosed. The cylinder includes a hollow cylindrical body having a leading end and a trailing end, the center of gravity of the cylindrical body being located relatively toward the leading end. The cylinder is adapted to be propelled through the air with axial spin. A boundary layer tripping mechanism is located circumferentially around the exterior surface of the leading end of the cylindrical body. This mechanism provides the cylinder with a turbulent boundary layer as it is propelled through the air to reduce drag and improve the flying characteristics of the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4150507
Abstract: The invention set forth pertains to a toy in which a vehicle is moved past one side of a leading station as an object is transferred from the loading station to the vehicle. An inclined ramp is located on the loading station; a carrier is movably mounted on the ramp so as to be capable of being elevated from adjacent to the lower end of the ramp to adjacent to the upper end of the ramp. This carrier includes a platform which supports the object as the carrier is elevated along the ramp. The vehicle is moved along the side of the loading station so as to pass the lower end of the ramp and then to continue toward and beyond the upper end of the ramp, and is provided with a shelf at such a height as to be capable of receiving the object on the platform as the carrier is elevated along the ramp. The carrier and the vehicle are provided with structures which engage one another as the vehicle is so moved so that the vehicle serves to move the carrier along the ramp.

  • Patent number: 4148153
Abstract: Hoop propelling trundle of the hoop capturing type characterized by a resilient circular split ring, preferably in the form of a helix of somewhat less than a single convolution, with ends normally spaced apart a distance less than the cross sectional diameter of the propelled hoop and which may be sprung apart in the direction normal to the plane of the ring to provide an enlarged opening between its ends to permit the hoop to pass therethrough for detachably connecting the hoop and ring. The ends of the ring are disposed at its forward or capturing end and both ends engage the hoop when rolling in engagement therewith during arresting of the forward motion of the hoop. The ring is also circular in cross section to provide the same rolling contact therewith in various positions of tilt of the plane of the hoop relative to a horizontal surface.

  • Patent number: 4144670
Abstract: A cyclic-action buoyant toy has no moving parts. The toy floats in water in a first, horizontal position with a port below water level to admit water into a cavity within the toy, while a siphon connected to a drain operates whenever the toy has admitted enough water to assume a second, angled position. The siphon removes water at a faster rate than the port admits water, restoring the toy to the first position, stopping the siphon, and restarting the cyclic action. One embodiment uses a single-ended siphon, while a faster-acting embodiment uses a dual-ended siphon.

  • Patent number: 4143483
Abstract: An improvement relating to a toy flying saucer having a double skinned body defining lower and upper wall portions joined proximate the rim of the toy flying saucer body. The upper and lower walls, in one embodiment, are normally urged in close proximity and may be manually separated so as to form a variable volume air chamber therebetween. An orifice in one of the walls is provided with a noise-making element such as a whistle or a siren. Prior to launching the flying saucer, the upper and lower walls are manually separated so as to fill the chamber therebetween with air which is allowed to escape during flight through the orifice provided with a noise emitting element. Alternatively, the double skinned body is constructed such that the upper and lower walls are normally urged away from each other such as to form an air chamber therebetween which can be manually collapsed prior to launching of the toy flying saucer.

  • Patent number: 4143484
Abstract: A moving toy includes a plurality of articulated, body-forming members configured as a crawling animal. A wheeled, forward member includes drive means for propelling the toy and an actuating means with radially extending arms. The actuating means contacts a lever on an adjacent body forming member to intermittently pivot the members, thereby simulating an arching or undulating motion in a rearward portion of the toy.

  • Patent number: 4142322
Abstract: An inflation device adapted to admit compressed gas to the interior of a balloon, and to seal that interior against the atmosphere after inflation, is comprised of a pair of circular disks in parallel alignment and spaced from each other. The disks are rigidly affixed to a central shank which extends beyond one of them. The shank extension is bored with a passage, sealed at the far end thereof, in communication with the annular space between the disks by means of a radial orifice. The tubular neck of the balloon is stretched over the sealing disks, with the shank extension protruding from the opening of the balloon sheath. Upon pressurizing the passage in the shank with air, or other inflating medium, that portion of the balloon stretched between the two disks distends and permits the inflating medium to enter the internal volume of the gasbag around the periphery of the inner disk.

  • Patent number: 4141177
Abstract: A reversible doll is provided, which can be easily assembled by even inexperienced personnel from materials inexpensively offered in kit form. A fist doll head, which can be provided with oppositely directed faces, is installed upon a first stiffened chenille. To this first chenille, a second chenille is affixed, and spacers and relatively small fabric disks are alternately arrayed upon the second chenille extending in two directions away from the first chenille so as to form a first set of doll arms. Relatively large disks and spacers then can be installed below the doll arms upon the first chenille to form a first doll thorax. Below this thorax, a gown member can be installed to hide a lower, subsequently assembled second doll thorax, a second doll arm array and a second doll head. If desired, male figurines can be suggested by installing the gown immediately below the doll arms so as to cover the thorax regions and provide a tunic effect.
