  • Patent number: 4554740
Abstract: The disclosure illustrates a pantograph comprising a pair of parallel guides slideably and pivotally mounted on a base support which is mounted to a table. A saddle supporting a stylus is mounted on one end of the guides and another saddle slideable on the guides mounts a tool such as a router. A series of parallel adjustable links interconnect the base, tool mounting saddle and stylus saddle, so that movement of the tool saddle is a predetermined scale of the stylus movement. The scale is set by the geometry of the links. The pantograph may also be used to make three dimensional reproductions of an object.

  • Patent number: 4555118
Abstract: Face and radial sealing arrangements for a fluid swivel joint such as is commonly used on offshore loading terminals for tankers. The sealed fluid joint includes first and second adjacent joint rings which are rotatable relative to each other about a common central longitudinal axis. The joint rings have a small annular, ring-shaped clearance gap therebetween to allow relative rotational movement, and one of the rings defines an annular seal housing groove adjacent to the clearance gap. An annular seal is positioned in the seal housing groove, and its components include an annular, sealing member and an adjacent antiextrusion ring to prevent the pliant sealing member from being deformed into the clearance gap by the relatively high fluid pressure differential existing across the seal.

  • Patent number: 4553761
Abstract: A U ring in an inwardly radially-open groove in a relatively stationary machine part for sealing a relatively axially-displaceable machine part extending therethrough has a resilient U ring body, a radially-outside statically-acting sealing lip for bearing on the bottom of the groove, and a radially-inside dynamically-acting sealing lip for bearing on the axially-displaceable machine part. The axial spacing of the statically-acting sealing lip from the adjacent end face of the groove is greater than that of the dynamically-acting sealing lip, whereby the dynamically-acting sealing lip tilts away from the axially-movable machine part when the latter forces the end of the U ring against the end face of the groove to relieve pressure along the axially-moving machine part.

  • Patent number: 4553762
Abstract: A seal ring has a reinforcing ring with an inwardly-directed conical extension and a lip ring having elastic properties which embraces said extension in the manner of a U for a relatively-rotatable seal and bears on the shaft to be sealed as a static seal. The lip ring is a length of hose enlarged on one side to form an outwardly-directed flange. The hose portion of the lip ring is inserted into the extension of the reinforcing ring in the direction of its conical narrowing with the resulting elastic deformation at the flange tipping up the hose portion to form the U.

  • Patent number: 4552366
Abstract: The invention concerns a method for producing a tubular seal for a joint between two parts, both movable in relation to one another. In the method according to this invention, the tubular seal is formed at the same time as it is being laid by squeezing from a nozzle, so that the squeezing nozzle provides the final flexible form for the seal, and the seal strip adheres to its underlying surface by its freshly adhesive surface.

  • Patent number: 4550921
Abstract: A ring joint gasket for sealing a pair of flanges in a pipe. The gasket fits in a pair of grooves in the flanges and permits the flanges to have face to face contact. • Patent number: 4550919
Abstract: A seal disposed in the interior of a roller which is used in a system wherein paint is supplied under pressure to the interior of the roller consists of porous resilient filter material which simultaneously performs the function of sealing the exterior opening which must be present to permit rotation and assembly of the roller parts, filtering pigment from the paint so that if any leakage does occur only non-pigment containing liquid will exit, and permitting relative rotation of rotatable parts of the roller with respect to stationary parts of the roller while maintaining the seal. The seal is in the form of a grommet or elongated washer which completely surrounds a shaft support carried on a rotatable part of the roller to which the paint-applying knap is affixed, the support in turn receiving a shaft of a stationary part of the roller to which paint is supplied under pressure in the interior of the roller.

  • Patent number: 4549741
Abstract: A combination metal and knitted wire mesh gasket includes a gasket body formed of metal and having interconnected first and second portions. A layer of knitted wire mesh having a recess extending along the internal circumference of a first surface thereof receives the first portion of the metal gasket body. The second surface of the knitted wire mesh engages the second portion of the metal gasket body such that the first portion of the metal gasket body and the first surface of the knitted wire mesh form the first surface of the gasket. The second surface of the gasket is formed by the second portion of the metal gasket body.

  • Patent number: 4547972
Abstract: An angular measuring system consisting of one or more sensors that transmit angular measurements to a central control unit where numerical readout of any selected sensor is provided. A threshold can be preset at individual sensors or the control unit for an allowable angular deviation, beyond which a warning device is actuated. The circuitry permits locating the sensors remotely from the console and provides precision and stability of operation. Low power consumption permits extended operating periods with internal batteries. False alarms are minimized by incorporating a hysteresis loop in the threshold detection circuitry.

  • Patent number: 4548415
Abstract: A seal assembly for an articulated coupling of two pipes has a first flange adapted for affixation to the end of a first pipe, a first slide face on the first flange, and a second flange adapted for affixation to the end of a second pipe. The second flange has an annular part including an engagement face oriented towards the first flange and a tubular nipple projecting towards the first flange. The seal assembly further has a sheet metal ring surrounding the tubular nipple and having a generally U-shaped cross section for defining a ring cavity open towards the engagement face. A second slide face, provided on the outer surface of an outer wall portion of the sheet metal ring, is surrounded by, and is in a sliding contact with, the first slide face. An annular filler mass of a sealing material is received in the cavity. The filler mass extends axially beyond the sheet metal ring and is in contact with the engagement face of the annular part of the second flange.

  • Patent number: 4546987
Abstract: An annular elastomer packing 2 for a male-female bell housing type of pipe joint has a trapezoidal foot 12 radially opposite an anchor ridge or flange 8 which seats in a mating groove 5 in the housing, and a tapering truncated body portion 10 joined to the anchor ridge by a shoulder 6 and to the foot by a groove or recess 19. The radial compression of the foot during the initial insertion of the male pipe end serves to firmly anchor the packing via the ridge 8 and groove 5 with the recess 19 accommodating the compressively deformed material, whereafter the continued insertion of the male end radially compresses and axially extends the body portion to ensure a tight seal. This configuration reduces the insertion force and enables greater dimensional variations to be tolerated.

  • Patent number: 4544166
Abstract: A breather configuration for an electric apparatus such as a wiper motor includes a zigzag shaped air flow labyrinth which is formed by a breather outlet and a breather cap. The breather outlet includes a shaft having an air passage hole at its center and a flange formed at the end of the shaft. The flange has notches for passing the air through at its periphery. The breather outlet shaft fits into an installation hole provided in the case. A breather cap is attached to the periphery of the flange of the breather outlet. There is further provided a wall which is extended from the case to surround the breather outlet and the breather cap and an end of which is spaced from a body panel to form a small gap. In the above construction, the air flows through the air flow labyrinth and the gap between the wall and the body panel whereas the water falling on the breather configuration may be discharged by the wall and the labyrinth.

  • Patent number: 4544165
Abstract: An inflatable packer is disclosed that includes inner and outer sleeves of elastomeric material. An annular sheath of overlapping reinforcing members is located between the sleeves. Each reinforcing member is bent adjacent each end to move a section adjacent each end into a plane that is parallel to and spaced from the center section of the reinforcing member. The members are bent at an angle that allows the members to overlap with their ends in alignment. The reinforcing members are mechanically clamped between inner and outer anchor members that form the packer heads.
