Abstract: A multi-setting revolving turret particularly useful with a lathe machining center, comprises a base body, a tool head rotatable in the base body, at least one chuck in said head for a drill bit or cutter tool, a motor supported on the base body to drive said chuck through a drive train, wherein an element of the drive train is mounted on the base body in a hide-away shiftable fashion between an operative position of engagement with the chuck and an inoperative position of disengagement from the chuck.

Abstract: A universal roller for glue applying folding machines is disclosed which engages paper sheets to be advanced for folding, and which sheets have had one or more lines of glue applied thereto, which roller includes a plurality of spaceable segmented roller elements, detachably secured to a metal shaft, which elements, have an outer surface for engagement with said paper sheets.

Abstract: A method of making a beverage packaging bag made of at least one laminar panel which has an inner layer and an outer layer with appropriate portions of the laminar panel bonded and thus sealed together by heating and a plurality of cuts provided in the outer layer to facilitate piercing of a straw through the panel, by directing a laser beam through a mask at the bag.

Abstract: Apparatus for forming a denesting lip in paperboard containers by folding, heating, and sealing or tacking a side extension flap to form a denesting lip for nested stacks of such containers. The denesting apparatus includes a pair of pressure pads which guide the paperboard container onto the apparatus and prevent the container from sliding off the apparatus while the denesting operation is performed. The apparatus also includes a multiplanar mandrel pad for forming a bottom closure that is flat on its exterior surface.

Abstract: A vari-gap drive system for controlling the speed of the drive system used in the fabrication of corrugated boxes which varies the drive rate for a folder vis-a-vis that of the printer/slotter to which it is attached to vary the box blank gap through the folder and thus permit a throughout two to three times faster than that attainable when the drive for the two units are driven at the same speed. The reliability and speed of the subject Vari-Gap Drive System is in part derived from a unique cage roll assembly.

Abstract: A portable container is provided consisting of an encasing member arranged so as to form a space in which objects can be carried and a handle member, consisting of at least one handle loop of string or similar material, which is attached to the encasing member. Attachment of the handle loop is accomplished in part by inserting at least one section of the string or similar material between two material layers of the encasing member, which are joined together by means of adhesive, whereby a channel is created between the layers of material through which said section of the handle member extends and in part by the nonuniformity in cross sectional shape over the length of said string or similar material when positioned in said channel in the completed package and by giving the channel such a form, the its shape and dimensions at least to a certain extent follow said nonuniformity in the string.

Abstract: A plastic bag opening device has a flexible U-shaped member which can be slipped over the slit edge of a plastic bag. Multilayer adhesive strips are affixed to the inside of the ends of the U-shaped member so as to contact the sides of the plastic bag when the U-shaped member is forced to a closed position. As the U-shaped member is flexed to an open position the sides of the bag adhere to the adhesive substance on the end of each exposed layer so that the sides of the bag are pulled apart from each other.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for repeatedly presenting a single, flat, tubular corrugated case, with its leading closure flaps overfolded in open flap position for easy gripping, erection and placement in the case gripper of a case packer device includes the provision of a bottom feed magazine holding a stack of such flats and a plurality of lug chains for advancing each successive individual bottom-most flat through a gateway and along a path up to the operator station of the case packer. Upper folding hooks of exact dimension are arranged to over fold the leading upper, major and minor closure flaps of each successive flat, without contact with the corresponding lower flaps. The leading lower major and minor closure flaps are underfolded further along the path and hold down bars maintain the folds. Sensing means triggers the advance of another flat when the operator removes the flat presented at the operator station.

Abstract: Punches having attachment heels of different types are mounted on a bending press by means of an adapter consisting of a bar or a series of bar segments secured to the top die-shoe of the press. The bottom portion of the adapter body is provided in one vertical face with a recess of greater depth than any type of punch attachment heel. A bearing spacer having the same height as the adapter body recess is placed against the punch heel either at the bottom of the recess or in an external position. The spacer and heel of the corresponding punch are held in position by a cramp which is tightly applied against the adapter body on the same side as the recess opening.
