  • Patent number: 4167056
Abstract: A hand tool for quickly, easily, and cleanly removing concentric knockout rings from electrical sheet metal enclosures. The tool is an elongated member fabricated of flat metal stock. Notches in opposite edges at one end of the tool are adapted to engage opposite inner edges of a knockout ring having a central opening. The tool is rocked back and forth pivoting the two halves of the knockout ring about the tabs retaining it in the sheet metal of the enclosure until the tabs fracture completely severing the knockout ring from the enclosure and providing an opening in the enclosure wall for accommodating cable or conduit.

  • Patent number: 4165772
Abstract: A device for driving screws, rivets and the like is disclosed which has a nozzle consisting of an upper half part and an under half part, which are movable relative to each other. By pressing a lever with a finger of the operator and then releasing it, the nozzle is opened and closed in order to grasp screws, rivets and the like. Between the two halves of the nozzle a center rod extends coaxially with the nozzle; and, by pressing a grip end cylinder of the device, the nozzle is opened and simultaneously the center rod is thrusted towards the tip of the nozzle so that the rivet or the like may be pushed out. Alternatively, by rotating a rotary cylinder of the device while pressing the grip end cylinder, the center rod is thrusted towards the tip of the nozzle and rotated so that the screw may be driven in a work piece.

  • Patent number: 4164249
Abstract: An apparatus that facilitates the manufacture of wooden stairs of the type having treads and risers extending between and affixed to side housings or stringers. The apparatus provides multiple, parallel guides for the router used to cut the grooves in the stringers into which are fitted the treads and risers. By using a parallelogram construction for the multiple guides, the apparatus can be quickly adjusted and set to produce almost any size of stairs. An index bar used with the apparatus allows the apparatus to be quickly set for the particular stairs desired so that the grooves for both the treads and risers can be cut quickly and accurately in the stringers. The router is moved along each of the parallel guides to cut the grooves for all of the treads, and then the apparatus is quickly and easily reset and locked into position to set the guides for cutting of the grooves for the risers.

  • Patent number: 4164266
Abstract: For dampening exhaust gas noise a muffler contains two portions, of which one is adapted to take care of high frequency noise and includes dampening material, and the other is adapted to take care of low frequency noise and is devoid of such material. The latter portion includes an inner, perforated tube, a surrounding casing and wall means for subdividing the casing axially as well as transversely. The length of the tube is compatible with the lowest frequency of the noise to be divided, and the location of the wall means is selected as to form chambers of varying lengths compatible with other frequencies within the low frequency zone. The high frequency portion may be fitted concentrically around the low frequency portion, or may be located so as to form an axial extention thereby. The means communicating the low and the high frequency portions may include a radial diffusor.

  • Patent number: 4160472
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for splitting wood and specifically logs. The apparatus includes a conical splitting device which is attached to a vehicle wheel hub and is rotated as the wheel is driven. A separate mounting plate attaches the splitting device to the wheel hub which enables one splitting device to be mounted on a variety of vehicle wheel hubs by the use of a variety of mounting plates. The splitting device itself has a spirally-grooved cone with a truncated conical portion behind the cone to prevent the possibility of logs riding up the device and damaging the wheel hub or adjacent portions of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4159610
Abstract: In a packaging machine having a first conveyor for supporting and transporting a plurality of loaded cartons to an end closure station, the cartons being supported with an open end disposed in a substantially vertical plane, the improvement of a mechanism for reorienting the carton as it is driven towards the end closure station so that the open end is relocated so as to open upwardly and the weight of the contents of the package is directed away from the open end so that during subsequent closure, the contents of the package will not interfere with the movement of the end flaps to the closed position. Preferably a vibrating mechanism is also provided for vibrating the cartons after they have been reoriented so that the contents of the package are urged to settle in a direction away from the open end.

  • Patent number: 4158375
Abstract: A screwdriver comprising a shank, a conventional screw driving head projecting from one end of the shank and in alignment therewith and characterized by an auxiliary screw driving head including a pair of auxiliary screw driving bits projecting from opposite sides respectively relative to the shank and angularly arranged relative to each other whereby a screw with a limited overhead space may be screwed by alternative engagement of the auxiliary screw driving bits with the head of the screw and progressive complementary rotation of the auxiliary bits. The latter are angularly arranged at different angles relative to the shank each as seen in front view. Thus for slotted head screw the auxiliary ribs are angularly offset one relative to the other by an angle of preferably 90.degree. between them as seen in front view to complementarily produce a rotation of 180.degree.. For an allen screw or phillips screw the auxiliary bits are similarly offset by preferably 45.degree.

  • Patent number: 4154289
Abstract: A gating system of general application for pouring foundry molds by gravity, based on a distinct prefabricated casting skin-strainer, located along and following the casting surface, structurally constructed and mold supported to withstand the impact of falling molten metal and the consequent metalistatic pressure, all while the cavity is filled through a skin-strainer aperture and with the skin-strainer retaining its original position and shape. The skin-strainer is able, when necessary, to allow the feeding of the casting once the mold is full and before it is solidified. Depending on the casting to be poured the system may include an overhead melt distributor, and techniques for mold casting cavity venting and sprue-feeder extraction.

  • Patent number: 4153101
Abstract: The invention is directed to a nozzle for feeding liquid metal to a moving mold of a continuous sheet casting machine, such as continuous casting between cylindrical rolls rotating about a horizontal axis. The nozzle is characterized by cheeks the inner side walls of which extend beyond the orifice initially by a straight element which can be composed of several parts then by a portion that is tapered to diverge from the nozzle axis at an angle of 5.degree. to 15.degree.. These cheeks may be strengthened in order to resist the strains caused by the solidified metal, and they may be provided with cooling or heating means. They are mounted to extend either into the area between the cylindrical rolls or to terminate outside their rolling area.
