  • Patent number: 4890578
Abstract: A nipple drinker for poultry or the like has a body constructed of thermoplastic acetal (e.g. DELRIN.RTM.) so as to minimize the amount of metal utilized while providing excellent longevity. The drinker includes a valve seat, valve pin, and ball all of metal, such as stainless steel. The head of the valve pin typically is essentially flat, in which case the height of the head is about 1.7 mm when the annular spacing between the circumferential periphery of the head and the valve seat is between about 0.07-0.08 mm. Each and every drinker is individually tested for the integrity of the valve seal, the integrity of an O ring seal, and to determine the amount of water it delivers. Accepted drinkers are classified according to the number of drops of water they will deliver per unit time in use based upon the testing.

  • Patent number: 4889489
Abstract: A combination of a rotatable spindle and grinding disk, and a method of assembly thereof. The spindle has an end with radial slits. The grinding disk has a hub which rests on the end face of the spindle. A portion protruding from the end face of the spindle has a barrel shape or a double frustoconical shape periphery. The hub of the grinding disk has an opening through it of complementary shape to the periphery of the protruding of the spindle. The slit protruding portion is deformable for fitting into the hub opening, whereby the spindle and disk are fixed for rotation. Additional protrusions from the hub extending into the slits assure that the grinding disk does not rotate with respect to the spindle. The method includes disposing compressible material at both sides of the grinding disk or extending compressible material through the hole in the grinding disk, and then compressing the compressible material over the grinding disk the defining the hub for the grinding disk.

  • Patent number: 4886451
Abstract: A system of orthodontic appliances and method for their use for gaining space in a dental arch without extraction. Space is gained in the maxillary arch primarily through a transpalatal bar, transmitting force to selected teeth through a maxillary lingual sheath, the receiving portion of the sheath having a mesial offset of about eight degrees. Additional space in the maxillary arch may be gained by employing an extraoral force appliance, transmitting force through a maxillary bucal tube carried on a selected pair of maxillary molars. The mandibular arch is treated by applying similar forces to selected molars through a lip bumper. This appliance transmits force through a mandibular buccal tube that receives the bumper in a passage having a mesial offset of about five degrees. The mandibular buccal tube also carries an archwire receiving passage, distally offset by about four degrees.

  • Patent number: 4884527
Abstract: A self-contained disposable animal commode is disclosed having a container with an access opening formed therein. The container includes a base portion defining a box-like receptacle having an open top and a cover portion cooperating with the base portion to define a substantially entirely enclosed space. The base portion of the container is adapted to support an animal for defecation and urination into a loose material and the cover portion of the container is movable from a collapsed position substantially conforming to the base portion to an expanded position. The container thus defines a substantially entirely enclosed space which can be collapsed for shipping and expanded for use. Additionally, the expanded position causes the cover portion to be positioned to comfortably receive the animal with the access opening positioned for ingress and egress of the animal therethrough.
