  • Patent number: 4798575
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the manufacture of filters in which a filter material in the form of a continuous length (5) is folded to form pleats (39). The pleats are attached to their ends along the lateral edges of the filter material and are sealed in this way one against the other so as to form a flow path for the medium which is to be filtered into the spaces between the pleats on one side of the filter material, through the material, and out into the spaces between the pleats on the other side of the filter material. During the process of attaching the ends of the pleats to one another, the pleats are kept separated from one another by a pre-determined distance between their outer folded edges by means of a device (18) provided with a number of combs (20) which extend inside the pleats and hold them in this way at the aforementioned pre-determined distance from one another.

  • Patent number: 4795417
Abstract: Thermoplastic film is fed from a roll and pleated by passing the film across a series of rigid guides. As the film is drawn down across the guides, the film is pleated and then gathered onto a wind up roll. A J-shaped roll rack is preferably pneumatically activated to bring a fresh roll of film into a position for feeding the pleating arrangement.

  • Patent number: 4795418
Abstract: A conveyor is provided with clamps or grippers which are spaced from each other. These clamps grasp the edge opposite to the folded edge or fold of a paper product, especially a newspaper, and transport the paper product in a suspended manner. A pair of movable press or clamp elements which can be controllably driven mutually to-and-fro is associated with each of these clamps or grippers. This pair of movable press elements is positioned underneath each of these clamps at a predetermined distance below the conveyor in the region of the path of conveyance of these suspended paper products. These pairs of movable press elements move in substantially the same direction and with substantially the same magnitude of speed as the clamps. The folded edges of the respective paper products or newspapers are clamped or pressed together between these pairs of movable press elements.

  • Patent number: 4791969
Abstract: In the hanging of suspended ceilings, a device is provided for enabling wire to be threaded up and over the suspended ceiling support joist and then twisted about itself to a desired length for supporting other portions of the suspended ceiling. The device enables fabrication of suspended ceilings without the need for ladders or scaffolding and allows the workers to accomplish the hanging of the supports from the floor. The device includes a blade portion and a hollow handle portion with an aperture therein. The wire is forced up through the handle via the aperture. The blade portion captures the free end of the wire and, by twisting the handle, forces the free end of the wire about the other portion of the wire, tightening the wire to a desired length. Numerous extension units are provided for the handle so that varying height ceilings can be constructed.

  • Patent number: 4791842
Abstract: A pipe machining apparatus having a tool carrier rotatable about a frame mounted externally of a pipe, with the frame being formed of two semiannular sections which are releasably held together by connection devices including coacting pin and latch structures which are effectively positioned by means operable from the side of the frame. The tool carrier mounts at least one tool head having a tool slide for a tool movable radially of the pipe. The tool slide is movable by rotation of a feed screw which is rotated in a tool slide advancing direction by a rack and pinion structure including a rack adjustably mounted on a feed plunger which coacts with a tool advance cam on the frame. The rack is also mounted for pivotal movement to permit manual rotation of the feed screw in a tool slide retracting direction, which pivoting results from cogging of the pinion gears relative to the rack gears.

  • Patent number: 4792325
Abstract: There is disclosed a method and apparatus for continuously making cardboard runners and stringers and assembling them into a cardboard pallet. Whether a runner or stringer is involved, the method involves essentially supplying a fiberboard blank of appropriate composition and size, running the blank through a perforating and scoring roller to produce fold lines in the blank, and progressively folding the blank from the outside in, by passing it through a plurality of curvilinear rods, and applying adhesive to portions of the blank during the folding process. The runners and stringers thus produced are assembled together to form a cardboard pallet.

  • Patent number: 4787880
Abstract: A method of making bags having a reclosable zipper between wall panels and extending between side edges at the top end of the bag, the zipper comprising a continuous length of extruded profile plastic strip folded upon itself for zipper closing interengagement of its profile parts, the profile strip portions being spot welded together at the fold in the strip which may be at one end of the side edges of the bag, such as a fold in the material which provides the walls of the bag. The strip may be notched out to facilitate folding. By differential mass, or differential spacing, or tilted biasing of profile parts of the zipper strip, and provision of a lateral flange of substantial width on the strip not only is interlocking of the profile parts facilitated, but an expedient is provided for restraining opening of the zipper by internal bag pressures, while permitting relatively easy opening of the bag from the outside, i.e. the top or mouth end of the bag.

  • Patent number: 4780029
Abstract: A tool holder for a numerically controlled machine tool, in which a cutting edge provided on a base member is adjustable with respect to a reference surface on the base member by adjustment means. The adjustment means comprise a U-shaped slot in the base member. This slot serves to form a pair of lever portions in the material of the base member, which lever portions are connected to each other by an area of the base member serving as a pivot. An adjustment screw threadingly engaging the base member acts upon the free end of one of said lever portions such that upon an adjusting movement of the adjustment screw the first lever portion is deflected in a predetermined direction to thereby deflect the second lever portion of the opposite direction. The second lever portion transmits its movement to the cutting edge by means of a spacing member disposed in the slot (FIG. 1).

  • Patent number: 4770074
Abstract: A portable multi-function pipe machining apparatus has a plurality of different cutting attachments to provide a portable machining center. The apparatus has a split frame with an inner ring attachable to the outer periphery of a pipe and rotatably mounts an annular tool head which can carry a selected cutting attachment. The annular tool head is driven by one or more drive motors mounted on the inner ring and having driven gears which mesh with an external annular gear on the annular tool head. Each of the cutting attachments mounts a cutting tool for movement along one or more axes with the movement being derived from rotation of the annular tool head and more particularly by rotation of a driven gear associated with the cutting attachment which is rotated by a stationary tool driving gear 22 on the inner ring.
