  • Patent number: 7986636
Abstract: Whether or not a node is a relay node may be determined by, for each of a plurality of active flows, assigning a random number to the flow, wherein each of the random numbers is drawn from a distribution. Then, for each of a plurality of time slots, any incoming flows to the node and any outgoing flows from the node may be determined, random numbers assigned to any active flow of the incoming flows may be summed to generate a first sum, random numbers assigned to any active outgoing flows may be summed to generating a second sum, and the first sum may be multiplied with the second sum to generate a product associated with the time slot. The products over the plurality of time slots may then be summed to obtain a summed product. This may be repeated, reassigning random values to each of the plurality of flows, thereby obtaining a plurality of summed products. A variance of the plurality of summed products may be determined and compared with a threshold to obtain a comparison result.

  • Patent number: 7986686
Abstract: Techniques for distributing digital content include receiving provider content over a network connection at a customer premises node located on premises of a first customer. The provider content is offered by a network service provider different from the first customer. Provider data based on the provider content is stored in non-volatile storage on the customer premises node of the first customer. It is determined whether conditions are satisfied for sending the provider content to a second customer different from the first customer. If it is determined that such conditions are satisfied, then the provider data is retrieved from the non-volatile storage, and data based on the provider data is sent over the network connection for receipt by the second customer. Thereby a customer premises node serves as a cache of provider content for other customer premises nodes on the same last mile segment or access network.

  • Patent number: 7974279
Abstract: A multipath data communication network structure in which probing middle-boxes send periodical probe messages through their different interfaces and subsequent routers map the probe messages through their randomly selected interfaces until each probe message arrives at a destination, engages to a loop or meets a time-to-live limit. The probing middle boxes select a random interface for each probe message and furnish their routable identification and a temporary random number correlated to the selected interface to each probe messages. Subsequent multipath routers select a random outgoing interface and random forwarding state descriptor (FSD) and temporarily correlate the selected random outgoing interface with the FSD and add the FSD to the probe message. The probe messages provide different destinations with various hidden paths. Each hidden path enables forwarding of packets from probing middle-boxes to the destination without identifying any routable address en-route to the destination.

  • Patent number: 7969919
Abstract: A method for sharing thermal load between nodes in a communication network includes monitoring the thermal load of a first node in the communication network. The first node is an advantaged node. When the thermal load of the first node is a predetermined value, a second node is selected as an advantaged node. • Patent number: 7969890
Abstract: The subject matter described herein includes methods, systems, and computer program products for load balanced and symmetric SPF path computations for VoIP traffic engineering. One method includes advertising an output interface cost in a first direction over a first network segment between a source IP device and a destination IP device that is different from an output interface cost in advertised in a second direction over the first network segment. A plurality of available network paths between the source IP device and the destination IP device is identified. A path cost is calculated for each of the available network paths from the source IP device to the destination IP device. Calculating a path cost includes, for paths that include the first network segment, substituting the output interface cost advertised in the first direction with the output interface cost advertised in the second direction. The path costs are ranked based on the calculated costs. A lowest cost path is selected from the ranked paths.

  • Patent number: 7965728
Abstract: A buffer circuit buffers incoming signals, from a local oscillator generator to a mixing circuit and has a push-pull circuit having two inputs, a first being coupled to a first incoming signal, and a second of the inputs being coupled to one of the buffered versions of the incoming signals, having a phase related to that of the first incoming signal. By coupling a second input to a buffered version rather than to the incoming signal, the load presented to the preceding circuit can be halved, while maintaining reduced power consumption. By using as a second input, a signal which is phase related to the first incoming signal, the normal operation of the push-pull circuit can be maintained. The incoming signals from the LO generator can be differential IQ signals and the buffered version of the further incoming signal be in phase with the first incoming signal.

  • Patent number: 7965655
Abstract: Distances are determined between an identified node and landmark nodes and milestone nodes in a network. The closest milestone or landmark node associated with a shortest of the measured distances is determined. A corresponding distributed hash table (DHT) overlay node is queried for distances between observed nearest nodes for the closest milestone or landmark node and the identified node. Distances between the identified node and the observed nearest nodes are calculated from distances received from the DHT overlay node and the measured distance to the closest milestone or landmark node. K-closest nodes from the identified node are selected from at least one of the closest milestone or landmark node and one or more of the observed nearest nodes based on the calculated distances.

  • Patent number: 7961726
Abstract: A framework capable of providing transparent handling of network traffic in close proximity networks such as home networks is provided. A single virtual network interface is exposed to users/applications on connected devices. A virtual network interface manager determines available physical network interfaces and switches to a different physical network interface or a different configuration on the same physical network interface in a transparent manner to the communicating application(s). This enables the framework to optimize network communications for the communicating applications, devices, and users based on predefined criteria, application requirements such as different data throughput, or changing environment conditions such as interference. Network communication operations are also simplified for users since they are no longer required to have the necessary knowledge for configuring physical network interfaces manually in response to changing conditions.

  • Patent number: 7957330
Abstract: The invention is directed to techniques for failsafe management of periodic communications between network devices. A first network device, for example, establishes with a second network device a first response interval by which the first device responds to a message received from the second device. Prior to commencing a software upgrade, the first device determines whether the event requires an interval of time during which the first device cannot respond to the message within the established first response interval. Based on the determination and prior to commencing the upgrade, the first device establishes with the second device a second response interval that equals or exceeds the first response interval. Upon completion of the event, the first device establishes with the second device a third response interval. The first network device therefore may automatically adjust response intervals to accommodate upgrades that may cause unnecessary thrashing.
